Discussion about the april patch

With Kreposts being incredibly good defences, just make 1 Castle and 2 Kerposts to cover your extra TCs from raids, and you have enough buildings to pump out Konniks.

I actually like Golden Swamp, it is a Golden Pit variation that actually uses Naval units, and those are seriously underutilized in general. Any map taht enforces using mixed Naval and Land forces, is good by me, specially when you see how they actually trade with each other.

This patch is great ! Only thing missing is a buff for the portuguese

Really happy with changes to Teutons / Khmer / bulgarians / and Lithuanians (though These new skirms might be too OP)

The thing most people fail to realize is that balancing a game is a very tricky and precarious thing … too many changes and all of a sudden the game is at risk of being terribly unbalanced

I rather they undertinker than over do it

@DoctBaghi — you come across as very misinformed — 0.1% movement speed is very significant and 64 wood compared to 60 wood is not a nerf from 5 for every 6 … its a nerf from 14 fishing ships instead of 15

The patch has just come out and you instantly drop a feedback? Man… Before you judge the balance changes, try them atleast. I’ve played two matches with teutons today and honestly think that they are a good civ now. Their teutonic knights feel a LOT better now, unlike what people mostly say, they are actually useful now, and this change is definitely not negligible. They actually have options to play now, for example good infantry, heavy-cavalry and great siege.

If you don’t see the purpose of these changes, dig deeper. Note that these balance changes are always made with the world’s best players, and FE always asks their opinion about it before they bring them live.

If 0.88 speed Teutonic Knights are fast enough to at least defend siege against cavalry, then I feel Teutonic Knights are almost fixed, and reducing their food cost is the final touch. Assuming there’s no plan to ever turn Supplies into a percentage reduction and make it affect unique infantry, then 65 food is a good cost.

Stirrups affects Hussars, Cavaliers and Konniks, losing Paladin is a small trade off for your Castle Age UT affecting nore unit lines.

I think even more civs should lose Paladin, to be honest.
It should be only on Franks, Spanish and Teutons (for historical reasons), and then also on Huns and Persians (gameplay purposes).

10 civs having Paladins cheapens out the unit way too much. It should be 5 civs at maximum.

Bulgarians have good Cav Archers, while Slavs do not. Slavs are Infantry + Siege, while Bulgarians are Cavalry + Infantry.

I hope free Loom for Goths doesn’t make them a huge pain to play against like in the February patch. If Goths need a Dark Age nerf again, then I would rather change their infantry discount to the old 35% starting in Feudal Age over removing free Loom. Free Loom adds a little bit of everything to their Dark Age, which is more interesting than a straight military buff.

Tower shields make lithuanian pikes better in Castle but normal on Imperial (they still lack plate mail). Also leitis are still more fragile than paladins (even if they attack better). So those changes look ok.
I welcome the speed bonus to the TK. We still have to see if they are now a viable unit instead of a meme unit. Maybe the +2 armor for paladins is too much but they are still a civ with bad range units.
The thing that bothers me is the free loom for the goths.

So, is it confirmed that the Teutons bonus is +2 in Imp?

That’s the wrong way to look at it imo. Before, Bulgarian cav being special when compared to Slavs would only happen super late in the game after you researched pala. Now as soon as you get a Castle up the Bulgarian cav is going to be way better, so the distinction between the two civs is happening way earlier.

That’s going to be hard for an Imperial UT.

It makes them equal to Frank palas for melee and nothing more, I don’t think it’s too much.

Brutal!!!

+2 Melee Armour on Paladins. They are the true Ironclad unit in the Teuton army.

There are other differences, like Bulgarians not having Druzhina Champions or cheap Siege, but having Bagains 2Hs and decent Cav Archers.

The similarities are only very superficial. Slavs is a lategame powerhouse with their Farm bonus, while Bulgarians are super pushed towards early aggression, with free Militia upgrades and Stirrups Cavalry.

Slavs also have a Monk subtheme, and everything about them is “slow and steady”.
Bugarians, on the other hand, are all on raiding with Kreposts making for affordable defenses. Cav Archer + Konnik in Castle is a very strong raid. You will pick off a lot of Vills really quick.
Slavs with Monks + Halbs + Scorpions is a much slower combo, but can just break the enemy army and push to besiege the whole base, rather than go mostly for the Vills.

Kind of disappointed that Bulgarians lose Paladin. They should fix the attacking speed to 25% faster like it was intended instead of 33%. Then would it be reasonable to allow Bulgarians to keep Paladin if they lost the last attack upgrade? To compensate for infantry, bagains could give militia +7 melee armor and spearman +2 melee armor (+2 melee armor for infantry).

Yes your militia and spearman line would be weaker in imperial age until you get bagains, which is expensive, but infantry don’t have high base attack because they have high bonus damage. A halberdier is going to overkill because of the bonus damage so the base attack really doesn’t ever come into play unless it’s fighting the identical unit.

Absolutely not 11 Paladins are among the very few (if not the only one) units that get a base stat nerf (+0.1 sec between each hit) when upgraded to compensate for the fact you get so much better stats (light cav is slower than scout cav but it’s not because of the base stats, it’s because if the speed boost Castle age gives to scouts but not LC)

Well, at this rate Bulgarian 2HS would be a crappy TK knight that barely scratches the enemy while the Bulgarian halb would be a worse Teutonic halb. And it would be a 100% nerf to their hussars and konniks they don’t deserve.

Persians definitely needed nerfing in DA now that we are forced to play hybrid maps. Fed up with seeing them almost every game. I don’t see the appeal of trash bows. Poor vs Imp units and easily countered with skirms. Teutons seem good now. Lithuanians sound OP. Portuguese need improving. Remember when organ guns were amazing/massively OP?

I think way too many civs have Paladins, and would happily see the number reduced to 5. 11 Paladin civs is too much, specially when you have Celt and Byzantine Paladins, which are a terrible investment.

Trashbows are essentially better Skirmishers, since they deal more damage to Infantry and Cavalry, at the expense of a lower Pierce Armour.

TK’s just aren’t a good unit for defending Siege, speed boost or no. The most important factor there isn’t durability, because they are not going to be attacking those units anyway , they’ll be attacking the seige.

So at least as far as defending Siege is concerned, TK’s are still overpriced and underpowered , and I would never recommend that combination.

They do have the merit of being different.
