Yes. They have 7 units, 4 of which counter cav (jags, erks, puma, skulls), 5 of which are beat by skirms (puma, jags, erks, AKs, skulls), and only one that really counters them (coyotes). Jags have been overturned to the max but just arenât really fun to use (imo), ERKs were fun to use but are super nerfed so most of the time Iâd rather just not invest in them (except team games). Macâs are fine, but lose to 20 range skirm (if walls) even after a card. AKs were one of my favorite to use but for some reason they needed the heavy infantry tag (even tho they act definitely from all other heavy infantry). And really they just feel like a mess.
they need to completely revert aztec to the state it was in on October 15th 2020 and try again
They do. Both balance-wise and design-wise.
I didnât ask if they did this or that.
I donât think I understand you. You asked do aztecs need a rework. I said yes.
Oh, sorry, I think I misunderstood you.
They certainly do, I agree.
The aforementioned Russians now have native Russian names for a few of their units, along with graphical changes, yet Aztecs are still lumbered with inappropriate European names like âKnightâ along with strange unit model/name choices/poor research from the Ensemble days.
Thatâs just the tip of the iceberg for design/aesthetics and Iâm not even touching balance-wise stuff!
If the Aztec units with the âKnightâ term are going to be renamed then I have some ideas, where:
[Jaguar Prowl Knight] gets renamed to [Jaguar Prowl Warrior] instead.
[Eagle Runner Knight] will have the name [Eagle Runner Atlatlist] instead.
[Skull Knight] renamed to [Tlacochcalcatl] instead. And where the Tlacochcalcatl could replace the [Aztec War Chief] or just be a customisable skin for the respective war chief, while the Cuauhchicqueh (Shorn Ones) can be the military unit that can be obtained from the [Community Plaza] or just be trained from the [Noblesâ Hut] building.
Swap the roles between the [Arrow Knight] and the [Puma Spearman], which in turn will make the Arrow Knight into the pikeman unit for the Aztecs and where the Puma Spearman will be the one that fire arrows from long range.
The [Arrow Knight] could then go by the name [Cuextecatl Spearman] instead, while the [Puma Spearman] could possibly have the name [TlahhuÄ«tĆlli Marksman] instead and be remodelled to resemble an Aztec archer.
@SirBarnzy1 I think you have suggested before that the [Otontin Slinger] can be renamed to [YÄĆquÄ«zqueh] instead, so they could either go by that name or [YÄĆquÄ«zqueh Slinger] alternatively.
Better would be a rework to all Native Civs
Name it Comunity Plaza and Tribal Marketplace
Atrocious by design!
The redesign they need is to going back with changes instead of accumulating useless patches.
Also, their patch update was mostly useless for their weaknesses.
Igf hey are that powerfull on rushes, then nerf it, not their lategame and give them more strategies to survive past 10 min.
they just need a way to deal with artillery spam (since arrow knights got nerfed) maybe stealth units working like before (only explorer and spies revealing them) or removing the speed penalty while stealth
Agree, whoâs idea was this?
AKs do not act like any heavy infantry, they suppose to be the replacement for the lack of artillery. But being countered both by cav and now skirms make them kinda useless.
My suggestion is to add a new type of building for them, where they can update itâs units (arsenal/church) and research special technologies like area damage for AKs for example, or research firing arrows for increased damage, or even obtain 4 artillery as Inca does, etc. Options are huge, but also they do need the most church technologies to increase LOS to units because it appears like they are blind when you play them.
This building should be called âCalmĂ©cacâ wich was like a school/university for the elite in real Aztec civilization.
They can even use as base the buildings in Age of Empires 2.
I always thought the Aztecs (and all natives civs) needed their own version of the arsenal. However, I think the aztec arsenal should be called âtlacochcalcoâ instead. They had four of these armories in Tenochtitlan
Aside from AoE damage, another idea if it is possible would be to give the [Arrow Knight] the ability to deal area denial damage, where they will fire incendiary arrows that will set the ground on fire when fighting against other enemy units on land. The fire caused by this incendiary arrow will rapidly spread out to a certain radius and last there for a certain amount of time, causing damage to any enemy unit that stands in the fire.
I remember making a post in 2022 where I suggested that a new technology called the âCarcass Shotâ could be researched from the [Arsenal] building, which would give the [Mortar] the ability to fire this carcass shot that would cause area denial damage. I was inspired by this old post of mine for suggesting that the [Arrow Knight] could deal area denial damage.
My hot take is that the Inca are the ones who need a rework.
All natives do actually. I donât see why the Incas would need it more.
Inca are the the furthest from reality. They are depicted as equally archaic as the Aztecs despite their rapid adoption of European weapons and continued resistance that lasted into the 1780s.
The other native civs mostly need a rework to get rid of the tribal marketplace and give them better artillery equivalents instead of captured mortars.
Then why not replace the [Captured Mortar] with some kind of wooden cannon that is attached to a bed just like a mortar? It seems that some tribes in North America used improvised wooden cannons against fortifications according to what is stated on the Wikipedia page for wooden cannons.
The use of wooden cannons by tribes in North America seems to be based on a book called âStories of American Life and Adventureâ written by someone named Edward Eggleston.
You seem to forget that most of the aztec roster is composed of made up units wearing historical costumes the devs have found in books, with no further research.
