Does AOE Def. being exclusively on Windows 10 upset you?

History is what pisses me off, wrong history happening again.

You Microsoft little greedy devies just want to create the “Games for Windows Live” all over again, but this time is even worse, my making this ‘exclusive for Windows 10’ nonsense added to the entire AoE franchise you are building the foundation to break any relationship with Steam or any other gaming platform, hoping to see all the AoE community under your greedy shadow, you know perfectly, that won’t happen, what Microsoft are doing is burying the franchise.

I’m not happy about purchasing any of your games until you decide to release the game on Steam, a widely used platform that any PC gamer uses nowadays.

Feeling: Complete sadness.

I couldn’t agree more to what you said. Nothing else to add to your words, except:
„Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me“

This.
At the very very least put the game on steam so it has a chance of surviving.

At very end/2-3 years.

Remember how sad people were when 7 came out? “It’s a repeat of Vista, don’t waste your time, stick to XP” they said.
Remember how sad people were when 10 came out? “It’s a repeat of 8, don’t waste your time, stick to 7” they said.

It’s a cycle and to have a dev push their platform is…obvious.

Nope i have win10 and i’m doing just fine.

Being Windows 10 exclusive isn’t an issue; being Windows Store exclusive is, and both sales figures and (lack of) moddability will reflect this.

I voted no but I can see the arguments for both sides. It doesn’t “upset” me because I think releasing on Windows 10 is consistent with the goal of reviving a series in the modern decade and bringing these games back to the forefront of gaming. I do sympathize with those who haven’t updgraded to Windows 10, but I believe Microsoft has done a fair job of making Windows 10 as accessible as possible, especially with the free upgrade which is how I got it.

On the other side, a case can be made for releasing it on Steam. I love the community of AoE players on Steam because we love the game and love playing with other people that love it. So it will be a shame that it’ll be harder to play with my regular group, but I think those who really want to play this game will create another community here on Windows 10. Blizzard does the same thing, however they don’t have any games on Steam while Microsoft does have all available AoE games on Steam.

I see both sides, but I’m most excited to just play the game, and even more importantly, finally witness AoE make a return to the gaming community. I loved it in '97 and I will love it this year no matter what platform it’s on. That’s why it doesn’t “upset” me, because no matter what, I get to play AoE: DE.

I intensely dislike Steam. The monopoly it has currently on game sales is bad for the video game business, and their pricing structure is abhorrent.

So while the Windows 10 exclusivity is not ideal, the fact that it’s not being done through Steam is great. Any competition, especially through a franchise with one of gaming’s most dedicated fan bases, is a great thing.

I voted yes, but am not upset about it. Mainly, I think it is a foolish position, unless the developers are planning on making it platform independent shortly after release. If not, why limit your user pool from the start?

Just my silly opinion!

So I guess asking if it will be available for Mac is out of the question, right?

That being said I use Win10 on my PC for work (i7 7gen with 8GB of RAM) and it’s definitely a quite slow OS…

BRING BACK THE ZONE !!

From a bosses point of view that would be the lamest excuse ever heard. :stuck_out_tongue:

I put No but there should be an option for I don’t know. I am more upset because MS is clearly missing a large WIN 10 market in Steam. And according to stats, Steam has more WIN 10 players. They should put it at both place.

No, I don’t care if it’s Windows 10 or not, I am just happy that a lot of AoE games are coming and I am ready to play them anywhere they are available.

Like some others have said, I’m not so much upset as I am just disappointed. Honestly, only having it on Windows 10 in my opinion just makes it much harder to have a large player base when only so many PC players have Windows 10 installed…

I still don’t understand why the game being only on Windows Store is a bad thing.
If you really want to buy and play the game, you would buy it regardless of whether its on Windows Store or on Steam. And saying that the game will lose potential players because its not on Windows 7 is absurd. You guys had 1 year to upgrade FOR FREE.

Not upset, just disappointed … I’m not ready to upgrade to Windows 10 yet, I still prefer Windows 7… but I guess I can always dual-boot my machine so I can use Windows 10 for AOE

Yes, if it was also avaliable on steam as well as windows store then the multiplayer population and exposure to the game will be increased 1000 fold.

Indeed but there are plans for that right now.

Yes. Signed up and was accepted to the beta before I realized it was Win 10 only… lol. I don’t need it that bad…

Truth be told, this doesn’t upset me in the slightest. Not because I like the exclusivity, but because I remember what happened to Halo 2. I don’t know why Microsoft has forgotten… but Halo 2 was supposedly a vista exclusive, and Microsoft insisted it would not work on XP. It had been out for less than a day before someone patched it to work with previous versions of Windows. Without breaking any laws. This is often sited as the reason Halo is no longer released on PC. I doubt Age of Empires Definitive Edition will be out for very long before someone releases a patch unlocking the game for previous versions of Windows. Microsoft will undoubtedly be upset, but whether or not they have a right to be upset, that will most certainly not stop people from doing it.

It’s kind of a bad business decision really. If you make it too hard for people to purchase it and get it running for an older OS… they’ll probably end up pirating it. I will never approve of piracy, but realistically, this is the sort of thing that will encourage it.
