Don't say Chinese market is the target, when Chinese translation is insultingly bad

I mean, the campaign already has wizards that can summon storms, Zhang Fei holding off a horde of heavy cavalry on his own, and Liu Bei dual wielding greatswords. Having the Sun clan literally be a “Sun” clan of solar aliens from space is not too far fetched at this point, so I can understand why the translators could have gotten confused. And if they don’t respect history, there’s no need to respect the lore of the fictional Romance story, either.

Anyway enough jokes, it’s obvious they are either using Google translate, or paying for the cheapest possible translator to do this job. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, you could argue they simply “forget” to give translators the proper context to make a correct translation. Shows how much they care about the game.

Great. Next Campaign DLC should be magic theme, Merlin and King Arthur. Maybe we also need Zeus to summon thunder.

There is no way that this can be a human error unless the translator had 0 context about this being historical military game.

I know some Japanese and 刀 is Katana and 道 is “do” (path) as in Judo or Kendo.

Whoever translated “Fire Lancer” likely also never saw how the unit looks like. The companies that do translations often just get a list or words/sentences without any context. They never see how it actually looks like ingame.
It doesn’t help that AoE4 also has a unit called “Fire Lancer” that is a cavalry instead of an Infantry.

It can name the Fire Lancer “火槍兵”, but just rename the Hand Cannoneer for example to “手銃兵” (literally “hand cannon soldier”). Actually this way is more accurate.

還有蜀漢的「白毦兵」,曹魏的「虎豹騎」,似乎也都「中譯英譯中」了。

Korean players also say that the translators are working so bad. I heard even the translators who put things in Korean are actually Koreans, which is so frustrating and unbelievable.

Bad translation isn’t something new, but since the Mountain Royals, it became surprisingly bad. At that time, both Korean and Chinese translations were all so bad even in translation of the title “the Mountain Royals.”

The devs just had better not contact translators but let users modify language files instead.

It’s our fault that WE can still make money simply out of “nostalgia”. We should correct it.

Yes in other languages too, in french they even make mistake with word who were correct in the CD version :

The translation is really terrible. I can’t believe a game developer from a Fortune Global 500 company could make such a foolish mistake.

If it was about nostalgia we would have gotten a Khitan Kushluk campaign instead of this BS

(Which woukdnt be the best choice but miles better than this)

Agreed, even AI could’ve done better. Every time a new DLC launches the Chinese translation is horrible and typically takes months before things are fixed. I have no idea how they are able to get the translation this bad when there are so many Chinese players active and willing to contribute to this game.

I don’t think AI would have done better. Even if you assume this is machine translation, AI is machine translation but worse.

Sad fact is quite a few people are drawn by the title of the game itself, not the contents

Typical braindead shill response

@FloosWorld @EliteRiflemann this guy’s name sounds too similar to a certain someone’s to be a coincidence.

Edit: seems he’s been around for at least two years?

LOL, I just can’t stop laughing at this particular translation.

This can potentially be fixed with a mod OR directly corrected in the translations file, which I found in this location with a local text search under the game installation folder: \resources\zh\strings\key-value\key-value-strings-utf8.txt

Search for the following line mentioned below and replace it with the actual translation text.

71302	"Microsoft YaHei"

The same can be done with other bad translations in any other supported language.
Hopefully someone in the community can fix translations for various languages that they’re familiar with if the this doesn’t get addressed by any patch.

Yes I knew translations could be modded, and have been using some actively maintained mods from the Chinese community. Still, this is a broken experience for the majority of casual users who don’t know about mods. Just mind blown that FE / WE never gave a shit about localization.
