That does not justify them to be added: they were not even a regional power

Already in the game as Spanish

Let me ask you something… Are as many as 19 european civilizations not enough?
How many euro civs do the European civ requesters ‘desire’? And why does this ‘desire’ for European civs never seem to end?
7 of the last 8 civs were European, I had thought that should more than kill everyone’s Hunger for more European civilizations.
Please stand aside, honestly, this constant demand for more Europe civs doesn’t make sense anymore, and needs to stop.
I have to say this again.
Not trying to start culture war or advocate for any civs, just trying to set history straight again.
I think just because your border became a certain size, or you had a certain title, doesn’t determine your “relevancy.”
There’s a few civs in AoE2, from all regions of the world, that weren’t giant kingdoms and I don’t feel they are “irrelevant.”
Not all people who live within modern Spain see themselves as a uniform “Spanish” identity and historically they weren’t a unified country.
I often converse with a Valencian friend and we typically end up referring to peoples and groups as Castillian, Catalan, Valencian, Basque, etc.
Catalans, more specifically the Crown of Aragon, was a fairly dominant power in the Mediterranean, whose lands extended to France, Italy and Greece ( a bit of a simplification).
So, it’s not like they’re the same.

Those two comments do not connect they way you like to misrepresent them.
Added to that, I have consistently advocated for an Indian, Asian and African DLC. I have posted civ suggestions for Jurchen, Tibetans, Pala, Dravidians, Bantu etc. a long time ago and I even suggested Elephant archers becoming a regional unit.
Trying to portray me and others who want European civs as some sort of racists is inexcusable.
And to finish up, yes this diatribe against any new European civs is becoming very boring.
Franks, Burgundians, Teutons and Byzantines? I hope you won’t give it to Sicilians.
Paladin were supposed to be the UU of Franks back in the old days (it never happened), just like the Imperial Camel Riders is unique for the Indians (now Hindustanis)
I wonder how the balance would be affected if you remove the Paladin from the other civs that currently have it
1v1 might not be too affected, teamgames would. With a few exceptions who don’t use them much to begin with, mostly Byzantines and I think Celts maybe.
I like them better with their current regional status than as a unique unit though, Frank paladins are special enough as is.
And franks pickrate in team games just got higher
Hopefully the precedent carries over to AoE3. India and Germany really need to be split up there too.
Yeah, it would rather be for Franks, Burgundians, Teutons, and maybe Spanish only.
Well, we are talking about an imaginary world where we would give regional units to all civs. I am not really supporting this idea to begin with.
In this world, there may be a “scourge Europe invaders” regional heavy cavalry (cavalier with higher speed and higher pierce armor) for Huns/Magyars/Cumans, and a Boyar (cavalier with lower movement speed and higher melee armor) regional unit for Slavs/Lituanians/… that would be able to compete with paladins.
I don’t play AoE3 as much, but I can agree with that. However, I think the game could get a few additional civs before it starts breaking umbrellas.
not really, it just set a whole new level of unique depth to how a culture can be represented since in this game the only unique things are buildings and unit it’s very different to have 1 UU or 3. so it’s not like new indiana civs are a slight to others, it just that in light of this, many other civs could use a serious revamp to be better represented as well
Not really.
From Aoe wiki
The Frankish Paladin was originally set to appear as the Franks’ unique unit, before being replaced by the Throwing Axeman. The Frankish Paladin was instead included as a hero.
So Frankish Paladin would be the castle UU while everyone including Franks have the regular Paladin on stable.
Dramatic change which will be very very difficult to balance.
And then add already existing “Crusader Knight” for Teutons and …Sicilians?
I wonder where they got that from. The Throwing Axeman was planned as the Franks’ unique unit since July 1998 (thank you, Age 2 Design Document), at which point the Frankish Paladin wasn’t in the game yet.
I’m hoping the Persians get the Savar as UU or replacement for Paladin.
I hope they redo the sprite for the mountain Samurai
What?
I do hope so too.
The Mounted Samurai is a hero unit which has 130 HP, 14 Attack 3 Melee/5 Pierce armor but has a Hussar sprite.
