Sorry, but the slinger has never been a generalist unit. It has a low damage multiplier and hp compared to counterparts from other civilizations—just like the other Barracks units. It deals 4 DPS and has a 2.25x multiplier against archers (the 4 DPS synergizes well with the Sekhmet’s Sling upgrade).
Camels were buffed a year ago—along with all cavalry units across every pantheon—but the game has changed significantly since then. A year ago, a patch gave them an additional 1.25 multiplier against archers—where previously it was actually 0—and increased their resistance to ranged attacks; since then, however, they have remained unchanged. They simply have a ridiculous multiplier against archers when compared to any other cavalry unit in the game
Elephants are already generalist units as they are, so they don’t need additional multipliers.
I understand what you mean and I agree with that you are saying but this wasn’t what I wanted to point out or suggest with my previous comment. But it’s okay it’s hard for ppl to understand each other correctly especially as strangers across the internet.
In the end, your opinion makes sense too, but you would be changing the makeup of an army that has been structured this way for ten years far too much. In short, you would be completely upending it.

Thanks for trying to understand me.
Yes, that would change things completely. And as you said maybe too much, especially for ppl who want to practice, be competitive and try to handel stuff multitasking with muscle memory.
But just from my personal unbiased point of view i think - for me logically - a slinger has neither the range, nor accuracy to be a consistent serious threat for trained archer. But the blunt damage a slinger would do to mid range targets would be significant therefore i would see them being better for mid to closer range targets but yeah surely too close would be too dangerous since they are still a range and therfore fragile unit.
The elephant ofc already is a generalist unit but when i think of a battle an elephant would be a bigger target and in at least some other the bigger the target and the slower the unit the more vulnurable the unit to range aka archers but the more devastating in close combat.
surely this would change built orders and unit compositions and unfortunately it seems too much for ppl who play the game more or less competitively and for many years (i play this game with breaks since around 2003, yet i barely play it competively cause i am no competitive and highly ambitious person. (thats why i avoid group sports irl xD)
anyway: that was just my opinion and i wanted to throw in another point of view and opinion to the discussion to maybe think about.
