This, if they REALLY want to include Jeanne in the game at least make her cooler
It is your problem when you’re the one that says “we can’t have this because it’s not an empire”, because you’d need to go back through the previous games and support “erasing” factions from them as well.
I mean, surely, this is something that’s important to you for every AoE game, right? Not just AoE IV? Or are you just picking on AoE IV for some reason?
no its innacurate and as they nention before joan d arc didnt do anything remarkable later but as an model that later on after her death was so appreciated by the french.
So many ways you could’ve implemented her.
Castle Age landmarks could’ve spawned her as a one time unit that does exactly as you describe. Basically a superior Mehter.
But, nope, some brightass thought it was a good idea to make a civilization about her. To be fair, whichever team is behind this variant mess was not fit for this. I mean, let’s be honest; Empire of Jade? Sultan’s Army? These folks were NOT familiar with AoE.
Really begs the question how they are running their company. How did this happen?
I wouldn’t form an opinion this harsh before release.
I agree it may not be the best name but its definetly not a gambreaker for me.
You’re the one who went allcaps on EMPIRES, not me. Doesn’t matter that Jeanne is a person’s name, what matters is the faction not being an EMPIRE, right? For your issue, specifically (other posters understandably can have different issues, or a combination).
Surely?
joan didnt make an empire herself but french people. joan didnt divided the country and make her own if ao4 is accurate
Youre surely make that impression since the arguments you recently used can be boiled down to whataboutism.
What about the sexists?
What about the players liking the variant civ?
What about factions that are not exactly empires?
If you pick and choose the posts of mine you engage with, I’m sure that’s a conclusion you’ll arrive at.
If you want an actual good faith discussion, I’m here anytime. Here’s an example:
This seems to be a big fuss over nothing it hasn’t even been released yet
As i said the name of the civ is still French, Jeanne D’arc is the name of the hero not the civ.
The website is wrong in this case, not the game, and the selection is not a civ selection anymore but a faction selection.
People really can’t understand new concepts here. If i wanted to play age 2 i would. I think age 4 is a much better game and more innovative.
Rest assured that this is not my conclusion, I remember your discussions from when the game released.
It is just that sometimes you make the impression that you absolutely have to answer to opinions of others even though there is nothing meaningful to answer.
You do not have to point to other factions not being exactly empires when the point is that one character can’t make up a faction alone. It just makes angry/frustrated users even more angry.
While I am not a supporter of WC3/LoL like heroes, I like the idea that Jeanne is a unit that heavily relies on activity. The more active you are on her, the stronger she will be. What I’ve always found so tiresome on AoE4 is that sitting back and turtling is way too easy and rewarding. With Jeanne I hope that being active becomes more rewarding in the future.
I’ve initially started to play mongols and loved to play with mangudai because they really could only be strong when being controlled very well. Sadly mangudai have never played a big role for devs and were considered one of the worst units a few months after release when people figured out how to counter them effectively.
Misogyny ≠ not liking a civ for lack of historical authenticity
Don’t turn this into another Cleopatra situation.
There is actual misogyny here, though. Theres at least a handful of users actively expressing it.
And you’re wrong in your statement. Jeanne D’Arc has very significant historical authenticity.
That, however, does not make her a civilization or empire.
It depends on the user, for me. Some people come by the argument honestly, and some just look for any old ammunition to throw at IV.
I also try to make it clear when I’m generalising an argument, and when I’m replying to a specific user. But that doesn’t mean I can’t do a better job!
Authenticity is when something is or at least feel close to the true, and having and entire civilization based around Joan of arc ######## enemies with a granade launcher doesn’t feel authentic to me.
Some will inevitably fall to offensive behavior, it doesn’t mean that everyone that doesn’t like or criticize the civ is a ###########
I feel the same. I was very excited about Byzantines, a bit disappointed Mamluks were not included though, as they decided the Crusades. Isn’t it Crusades DLC. Now I worry about AoE.
The Ayyubids are pretty much the mamluk but a some years earlier
In fact they are extremely different in every way.
