Fake GG?

Just explicitly make “gg”, “ggwp” and a couple of common variations accepted as alternative form of resign. The idea is to use technology to combat that sort of “fake gg” behaviour. Though, would that be effective? Would that trigger a lot of false positives? Idk.

Well you think attacking your allies with Onager is more comon?

I think there should be a chat Ban for regular GG fakers cause otherwise they could gain an unfair Advantage over the random Population In The Games for long Time if you dont want to punish and stop it. But it is true that most players are fair.

No, but that’s way more toxic than a fake GG.

I’ve seen that behavior more than fake ggs tho.

It also happened to a friend of mine, worst part is that the guy paraded like a peacock in the chat afterwards. And another friend who is top 1000 1v1 spoke of playerS who do that. So I guess he must have met several of them

yeah this is definitely toxic

We all seem to agree that fake GGs are a douche move.
There are other things which are also douche moves.

What’s the problem with a system where you can report players and if a player gets reported often he/she gets punished? (Maybe an hour-long multiplayer ban slowly escalating to a year-long ban for extreme cases?) I think BGA has a system like this, and it doesn’t seem to be abused.
I guess it would cost a little money to handle disputes.
Someone who reports too often would have to get flagged, that should be enough to deter people from reporting all lamers/rushers.

Imo lying in the chat is a douche move in general, though exceptions apply, such as in diplo games.
Trickery (ie the age-up chat trick, but also pretending to talk to the wrong person) isn’t as bad.

most people don’t want to lie.

sure an agreement not to lame could be abused, but 95% of the time it wouldn’t be.

and maybe there could be a system to enforce “not lying in chat”, particularly relating to agreed rules of conduct or when discussing whether someone should resign. see my other post^^

This is actually funny. If an opponent tells you stuff that are obviously for his partners’ eyes only and you decide to act on it rather than telling him about his blunder, then you deserve to be tricked IMO

Maybe you play much Low Elo Team Game with random Teammates thats why you see that more often. I would not recommend that so much. But its different to The GG cause its a suicide Move not brings you closer to the win. But agree very toxic of course.

maybe it was just an expression of how he felt at the moment
instead of typing: “looks like I’m gg”
he just typed “gg” and tried his best to continue.
happens a lot in team games (team chat) :grinning:

I had that once in a Lombardei Match but we discuss in team ah GG and than someone said okay lets go forward all together once more. We end up winning. That was just epic. But in this case I saw the replay and it was a clear douche bag move.

While not being completely shocked, I am still shaking my head that such a comment is liked by several people, who I know to be otherwise honorable and respected members of this forum.

Age of Empires is clearly not a war but a game. And as has been pointed out, even in a war such behaviour is prohibited by the Geneva Conventions. So how could this be tolerated in a game, that simulates war? There might be “many other things […] that people could do”, but that does not make such behaviour any more acceptable!

Furthermore, playing in the ladder is competitive play, and the skill is measured by an Elo number. A competetively played game is generally called “sport”, therefore sportsmanship is essential, and every participant implicitely agrees to not behave unsportingly.
Compare it to chess: If a chess player in one of my tournaments talks to his opponent with the intention of disturbing his gameplay, he gets warned once and loses the game on the second time. On the third time, I disqualify him from the tournament and ban him for up to one year. Other arbiters are even much more strict.

Just because some pros use ladder games to beguile the tedium, this does not mean that trolling is a good and legitimate thing. Besides how much I approve his abilities and like his playstyle, MBL is oftentimes not a great example of sportsmanship!

Thus, I request all the players, who just want to troll and use every possible method to win, to play in lobby games or the upcoming quick play feature. Please, leave the ranked ladder to the people, who agree to behave sportsmanlike!

I actually never had that happen to myself.

But I know someone who walled in their ally without any gate and resigned. Just to piss him off.

Maybe deception in war is without honor, but people inside a war always do it regardless.

This whole thing aside, this behavior is way beyond the maximum level of toxic behavior.

It can be annoying, sure, but it’s certainly not completely out of honor.

Well I dont get your Point just this behaviour might not be the lowest of the lowest its acceptable? Beside that if you do it as regular strategy you get an more or less big advantage over the fair players you play . yeah and please dont tell the next Low Bob Elo friendly Fire Teamgame Story. It has just nothing to do with this Topic. Thank you very much. Open another Thread if you want to talk it through, also you really know the wrong People.

No, but it’s not a huge deal

I don’t want to get into full detail. But that person was banned from our community. So, all is good.

I just elaborated on what I mean by max toxic behavior.

Well, that’s true. But fair players need to keep their eyes open.

Look, my whole point is this behavior shouldn’t be where you draw the line. It’s very low tier on the list.

So, it doesn’t deserve stuff like perma ban. Maybe a week ban if that person does it exceedingly. But that’s enough

Wow, this thread received quite some traction over the last couple of days.

@SeverusMagnus I think you may be misrepresenting the thrust of my post.
I wasn’t stating that everyone should play this game being a poor sport.
I was merely questioning the strength of the OP’s argument that “ambigious GGs” deserve to be dealt with as stated in the quotation below:

My point remains that I disagree that this “transgression” is actually a problem worth the above action. I feel that there are many other things that players do that are personally caustic and damaging to opposing players that deserve punishment. This on the other hand just appears to be a cheap gimmick that someone tried with little consequence or result.

I do think that we would all agree that we wish to play nice competitive games without worry of personal attack or transgression of the rules. I do not feel that the example the OP has given, falls into either or those categories.

Sounds like they were just having fun to me. No harm done. It’s just psychological tomfoolery. Distract you with words on the left (maybe to get you to ease up or think you’re winning) and then release the Kraken on the right

Well I disagree. You are really not the best in making cunclusion. I notice that since you derailed here with your friendly fire Team Game Stories. So leave making Conclusion to others. Thank you very much.

I like how that has literally no effect on the validity or invalidity of my point.

Yet you keep bringing that up like it’s such an important matter.

Ofc you do. Otherwise, you’d think twice about acting like this.

What was the reason for my disqualification again? Knowing toxic players?

Yeah, that certainly disqualifies me to have an opinion
