So galley line is still most expensive to upgrade. So will Galley line dominate late game? If so, what is the point of such big change? If not, why would anyone make galley line?
I think you’ve misunderstood my question, but I don’t know how I could have made it clearer… I’m not asking why it’s possible to collect resources from whales, I’m asking why they give gold.
Whaling being a “very profitable” industry doesn’t explain why whales give gold. Cod fishing was very profitable for the Basques in the Middle Ages, but it would be weird if the devs added cod that give gold instead of food. Whales giving gold instead of food is exactly as weird as that, as far as I can tell.
In AoE3, I assume whales provide gold to represent selling whale oil. As far as I know, that only became important and profitable during the Industrial Revolution, which is well out of the scope of AoE2. (I think it’s a pretty poor way of representing selling whale oil personally, but I can at least see the rationale.)
I wonder why they can’t just do this?
Just extend the left box so it can fit 6 icons in a roll. No all the removing demo stuff.
But… that’s so stupid??! Maybe they need fire ship line gameplay wise?!
Go back to work and go back needs some space too.
No. The reason is purely for UI reasons.
i really hope they will stop adding civs and units sooner rather than later. 90% of the additions since vanilla DE have been bad or very bad.
Gosh they really gonna add the rework even though it was met with mixed reaction from the community?
you seem to be under the faulty assumption that they pay attention to the community
What they should’ve done was either think something new or simply copy paste Chronicles model and expand the concept afterwards from that. How can not just do that? I’m still confused about entire armor class about “Long Distance Ship”.
I personally like they keep one single building. It would be too far from the OG otherwise. I can understand the appeal of a true combat triangle.
My main criticizes are the design of Hulk like (the metal hull!!) and the lack of fire ships for several civs.
Ungarrison. And your proposal also misses ECG upgrade.
In that case, just make it 7*3 instead.
Although I agree with you—and that does seem to be what the release notes are explaining—I think the devs’ main reason for this change is that they want all civs to have access to a rock-paper-scissors dynamic in naval combat.
I just noticed that it is unclear whether the Cumans will actually have the catapult galleon:
Here it says they receive them
but in the “Civilization specific changes” the Cumans aren’t listed as receiving the ship, while the American civs are:
You have to double-check this post
The Cumans are literally listed as getting it in the very screenshot you posted.
cause they don’t fit in the menu.
Kind of reminds me of the Dock in The Rise of Rome, where it was impossible for any civ to train both the Catapult Trireme and Fire Galley (not even with Full Tech Tree)…
…while AoE DE comes with a whopping 7 columns and 3 rows.
The Cumans are literally listed as getting it in the very screenshot you posted.
jesus fuck, i’m blind 11
There is a way to make peace of sorts with that catapult galleon design. For now at least. See, in Galactic Battlegrounds every civ can build either a Jedi or Sith temple that produces, well, either Jedi or Sith (Expanding Fronts brings more variety). But since it doesn’t make sence for the Rebels to actually train hordes of Jedi in the their story missions… they just don’t. The temple isn’t available in the campaign.
So, as long as those catapult galleons don’t show up in single player missions, their (lack of) historical accuracy could be glanced over. And yes, I know I keep pushing for reskins, but I do it for the units that do show up.
