Pretty good, have you optimized the order? My best at the time of posting is 76 survivors and 12 donkeys.
Former version of what?
The hd version in aokh
Which scenario though?
He’s talking about Escape of Hernan Cortes which was one of my first scenarios in HD. It had a similar concept as the latest version but was on a different map and much more scripted in its design.
I just finished your custom campaign - ‘Cao Cao II - Red Cliffs’
Absolutely enjoyed the mayhem and I felt this one was more interesting compared to the ‘cao cao ambition’.
I played this thrice.
I did not play as the war lords - Cao Cao (Red) , Sun Quan (Yellow), Liu Biao (Cyan) or Shi Xie (Pink) - as they had standard build and destroy missions with no interesting new ideas.
Once I played as Meng Huo, who stay on the left most side. We have an easy time at the start.
But economy is very slow as we cant build any economic building. I dealt with the Orange barbarians and they resign.
We come under a lot of pressure at the start with Shi Xie (Pink) and Liu Zhang’ (grey) attacking us with elephants and a gazzilion monks. I found it very tough to deal with them.
What the objective, we need to take our town center to the east coast is it? Once we reach the coast, what should we do?
Any strategy tips on playing ‘Meng Huo’?
I gave up, but what an interesting challenge.
The most interesting aspect of scenario was playing as ‘Liu Zhang’ (grey). Your units are not strong, you have fantastic monks and some unique spy units called ‘Enforcers’ - who cant be killed but cannot attack anyone. Very useful to go behind enemy gates and see what is going on.
Also some amazing gameplay aspects here. Every time we loose a warrior, our emperor looses -1 health. Our emperor starts off as 25 health and many times, his health was in the negative, as i lost 25+ soldiers trying to defend against non stop attacks from Shi Xie (Pink) .
They send Ballista elephants, Battle Elephants and Champions. The best way to deal with them is to have a ring of towers - upgraded to keeps and garrison 5 crossbowmen in each of them. Research chemistry and all techs. Shi Xie (Pink) could not touch me once that was done! Also use monks to gather a nice “free” army of Ballista elephants, Battle Elephants
The unique gameplay aspect here was to celebrate festivals regularly , this raises health of our leader and gives you some economic bonuses. Every celebration will cost lot of money. Ensure your villagers are working hard.
At the end of 5 celebrations and defending attacks from your enemies, you win.
I also sent 1000 tributes to Liu Biao (Cyan), who was my only Ally. That made it easier as you are surrounded by enemies from all sides at the start.
I loved this pacifist idea of playing as ‘Liu Zhang’ (grey), with a defense first approach.
Also it was very amusing to see the AI Civs fight each other. Sun Quan (Yellow) vs Liu Biao (Cyan) was hilarious. Both well matched and never really beating each other!
Another interesting buff - Sun Quan’s (Yellow) double blacksmith upgrades on infantry crazy. The champions have 7/8 armor and 21 attack plus Chieftains and Druzhina and faster build speed so they take almost no damage from enemy archers and also destroy everything in melee. Yet Liu Biao (Cyan) was holding its own with Rattan Archer, Skirmisher spam!
All in all another amazing scenario by @PhillySouljah ! Kudos man! Thanks for the effort and creative brilliance that went into making these.
I played as non Chinese factions - the Da Viet and The Japanese for a change and it was super fun!
With Da Viet, Pink (Yue Remnants) is your early enemy. You need to wall up and ensure you keep converting their elephants. They are also attacked by Green (Shu Han) and so getting rid of Pink is easy once you mass up Rattan Archers.
Then comes the challenging part - taking down one of the 3 big factions - Green, Yellow or Red. Green was attacking me with gazillion Elite Chu Ko Nus and Skirms.
It was a pitched battle with yellow also sending their over powered champions. But ultimately i could take down Green and we win.
With the Japanese, you can land near yellow (Sun Wu) and convert one villager and get back to Japan with your transport ship. Then u make a town center and boom up.
Explore the southern Islands and the northern area (Korea). You get 5 relics. So gold is never an issue. There is gold in the southern Islands too.
Pink and Yellow do transport units, but if you surround Japan with fireships and have 3 towers with archers inside, they cant land. You are safe. You pay your tributes to all the BGI 3 and then u win. But I enjoyed the free mode and explored the entire map and took out bandits and some other factions.
Playing as bandits also is highly recommended for some real alternate style gameplay!
All in all the Cao Cao scenarios have superb replayability.
Kudos to Filthydelphia!
I hope you can bring your only one long four scenarios campaign Children of Dying Sun and the Tristan & Iseult romantic story from HD to DE,thank you.Waiting for it!!!
Thank you, Cly! I’ve released a long campaign: Kings of West Africa is 9-scenarios!
What’s next?Waiting!
When I played as Yellow Turbans, I started by converting Liu Biao’s villagers and I was able to prevent him from building a TC. Then I basically built my base in his area, while my monks were working on Cao Cao’s villagers. Yellow Turbans are definitely “Hard Mode” though.
ty so much, your campaigns are of highest quality.
Ok, I just managed to get 93 survivors and 29 donkeys. I could have got more donkeys, but I got bored. It works because of the recent update. The houfnice can now attack ground, and by destroying the houses in which the Mexica waves spawn, you no longer have to worry about them overwhelming you, and can take as long as you like. You might want to fix this, but it is funny, so you could leave it. Also, it says there are 10 Aztec Nobles, but I killed all 12, how?
try transporting your villagers via siege towers.
Just concluded Komnenos - Byzantine Restoration. I thought your use of tax collection for the economy was very clever. It freed me up from having to boom, and because capturing enemy held cities increases the revenue I was actively trying to capture as many as I could - especially in the Balkans early on. Also, the use of reputation was a neat idea. And the Pecheneg invasion/ Rebellion were really challenging. I had to play the campaign on standard to get this right, and then played it out on hard. BTW did you consider a diplomatic (ie paying tribute) way to at least defer the Pechenegs? Given the grand strategic scope of this campaign I was wondering what the thought process was behind including in the beginning the usurpation of the throne by Alexios. It seemed inconsistent-a minor irritant to the main campaign But a minor kvetch. Thanks again for the effort used in this campaign. I really enjoyed it.
I played on easiest, but I can’t imagine that there was too much difference in the Pecheng invasion. What troops did you use? I had about 30-40 Cataphracts or Elite Cataphracts and they shredded the enemy, but that could just be difficulty.
@PhillySouljah Also, if you save and load the game, it seems that the chariots in the races have no description like they normally do, so it’s impossible to tell which is which.
I played the campaign on both easiest and hard. There were an appreciably more Pechenegs in the hard version - or at least that’s how it seemed to me. To thwart this invasion, on hard, I built four-five keeps near the gate where the Pechenegs attack, and garrison those with arbs. I also built some additional wall around the keeps to protect them from the inevitable breakthrough the gates. I also kept some cav back but not much. BTW Those keeps came in handy when the rebellion occurred. While the keeps and arbs kept the Pechenegs and Rebels at bay, I was able to use the main group of my army to further attack the Normans and then eastward to the Aegean and Asia Minor.
I really have enjoyed playing through lots of your campaigns. Thanks for the time you have given to making these – you’ve given me and many more players so much joy.
Re: 3 Kingdoms III. I’m playing as the Xian Bei, and have succeeded at damaging the Shu Han Palace, thus allowing me the option of declaring my own dynasty “at the Palace” What is the game mechanism that actually gives me that option? The hints state that upon damaging the Palace I can build a town center – but again I;m not seeing the means to do this as the villagers still do not have this option in their menu of things they can build. I’m sure I’m overlooking something very obvious, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Have you selected the Palace and clicked to found your own dynasty? It should appear like a unit or technology.
