Finally, devs win their war over history fans

I started a new game as Japan, and saw many ugly ahistorical visual designs, much more than I’ve already seen in preview screenshots. but complain posts are almost gone in this forum, and people stop complaining and started tying to adore it…
Maybe I’m not the player devs want to see. Honestly, in my opinion, they are trying to rip out faithful history fans like me…

Someone said I’m only complaining without say something constructive, that’s because he never seen my previous posts in this forum, and I think we already known what’s wrong with Japanese civ:

1.Japanese horse armour looks too different from they were in real history, because they are too long, and have full neck armour, IRL some of their horses wear a mask, but not full horse armour.
(I’m sorry I just can’t find a picture of Japanese horse armour, seems they didn’t wear one when on battle field)

2.Japanese cavalries didn’t use a shield, nor a round metal shield, their shield is square and are made of wood or bamboo, that’s frequently said in this forum by different players (As other said, this is because game design logic, to make it easier to identify)

3.Japanese walls are simple a retexture of Chinese walls

4.Water in Japanese Shinto landmark are pure blue, which is only for deep water, not a pool (other said this gate was built on sea, but game have its own rule for building, then make the water green is better)

5.Japanese female samurais didn’t pack their hair up ingame, that’s totally ahistorical, and no matter male or female, they need wear a helmet or hat

6.Japanese cannon are of different shape of European one, but due to all cannons of all civs look the same, we can ignore this point. (As other said, this is because game design logic, to make it easier to identify)

7.There shouldn’t be that many female units in battle, since in history records, known number of female samurais are not more than 20. (Corrected by others, they have more than 200 recorded in real history, though compared to male samurai, this number is still tiny)

Plus two about Zhuxi Faction:

1.Royal cavalry from Zhuxi faction is not correctly designed, IRL they wear an iron mask, not a veil.

2.Shaolin Temple and Mount Lu Academy’s roof could be Coffee colour in real life or other better colour, not pure green.

3.The faction’s name could be changed to Imperial Army/Forbidden Army, since officers, royal cavalries and unique units are all tied to the imperial court.

Congratulations, you are the player devs like to see.

I don’t think the developers don’t like you, but it’s pretty obvious you don’t like them!

In my opinion both the Japanese and Byzantines are one of the best looking civs in the game, so I don’t know what OP means here xD

I crituque and give tons of feedback during the year.
Saw some games from this dlc, interesting stuff overall but combat still looks boring to me. Two armies clashing against each other with almost zero micro.
Since I am someone who like to control different units in composition I find really boring the game overall.
Installed the game yesterday and saw someone was sharing his achievements (congratz to him) that he reach conqueror 3 but still dont use hotkeys because it was too dificult for him.
Laughed a bit then close the game and decided that the game isn’t for me.
I am happy that people are happy and have found something to play tho, I am still waiting for “my” rts.

And you can’t do that in this game? There are many different types of units and counter that provide the ability to micro or what am I missing?

Apart from not being able to dodge/run away from arrows like in AoE2 what’s so different here? You can also avoid taking dmg from mangonels etc.

I am coming from sc2, if you played it you may know what am I talking about.
Don’t want to argue tho, everyone have different taste, I am following aoe but neither would play it neither would give feedback.
Hope it grows tho

I’ve only played sc2 back in the days when it was first released, don’t know much about it sadly so can’t comment on it. Why would I want to argue? I just want a normal discussion as I am curios to why you feel this way

Basically sc2 is much more micro demanding, lots of different units to control and the skill ceiling is much higher. You can kill someone with first two units if you micro them well.
No defenders advantage, interesting casters, different fighting mechanics of the units like lurker, collosus etc.

That sounds too hardcore for my taste  I like that there is a challenge but I then prefer the AoE way of things.

isn’t believe me, at pro level maybe but you can have tons of fun and see how improve every single time even after years of playing

if you want something which is more aoe but with more engaging battles try AOEO

I love AoE4, despite having been a long time SC1 broodwar player, I never really got into SC2 as it just wasnt for me.

I hate hyper microing units because it dosn’t allow me to think Tactically, instead it becomes a showdown who plays the piano best rather than who has the sharpest mind.

Which is why I find games such as Total War, COH and AoE more appealing, although AOE is more on the micro side of things than forementioned rts’s.

But thats my opinion and taste on the matter, and I’m glad AoE did not cater towards the SC base fully, and is instead its own thing. A middle-thing in all honesty.

The “go read a history textbook” crew appeared so late to the show. That’s surprising.

the pace is okay, just diversity of the units is small.
Elephant could be unique so do shamans, priest, imams.
Units could have stances, formations could have bonuses, Rus could have even dogs.
Relics could give something to unlock when garrisoned.
Scouts could kidnap villagers.
Traps could be added.
Frontline with shield could make shield wall to soak arrow dmg and push slowly.
Infantry with rams could be added as a core unit to each civ or people with oil flask so you can go aggro and punish defensive players.
Stealth forest could be used in more unique ways, rather than being neglected.
Siege units could be more fun to use.
Infantry can build rams and mangonel but can’t build ladder to climb wall somehow…
Castle could be something more unique rather than turtle building.
Maps could have different places to hire mercenaries with each civ.

Even if eco wise civs are unique, combat wise they play the same. Long time ago I played Delhi because they were the only one that had unique ability “sprint” to the infantry. This ability with some shorter cooldown could be so much fun to use.

All I am sayin is different civ can have different pace to play. Slow and steady, fast hit and run, all agression from the begining and unit could be addapted towards that playstyle.
Let’s say if you play vs slow civ and you go full aggro on them with plenty of units like berserkers or whatever and at that momment you see doors are oppening and huge elephant is popping who have splash and can throw units, or rage , or something … it’s elephant you know. Here the elephant is like slow horse.

There can be tons and tons of stuff to make not only the economic part of the civs more diverse but also the overall combat. Then when you choose your main, you will love the uniqueness of the playstyle as a whole.

You’re just complaining for the sake of it, the way you put it. Care to be constructive? Point out what you don’t like about the designs, divide between major and minor flaws and provide a possible amendment. Take some time and put some effort.

It doesn’t take much to just whine and act all snobby like you just did. If you’re the serious one, are we all just fools? Then again, there’s nothing serious about this topic. You should just scrap it and come back when you actually have something to say.

Sounds like you are looking for total war, not an RTS. Sadly total war seems to be dying out though.

nope I am not looking for total war, just fully polished rts
