Future civs

What’s your top choices? Personally I want to see Timurid, Khmer, Mamluk sultanate, Champa (Vietnam), Oyo empire, and Ethiopia.

I think Maya would fit nicely with IVs civ design.

My bet for the next DLC is Maya and Norse.

Many possible options.
Here are some possible names for future civilizations and perhaps some are variants of others. The ones I would most like to see are:

  • South India: Vijayanagara — Muvendhar/Tamils (Cheras+Cholas+Pandya).
  • Indochina: Khymer — Ayutthaya(Thailand) — Burmese — Dai Viet.
  • Indonesia: Srivijaya — Majapahit.

What about the Variant Civs for each of them?

When I mentioned variant, it is because both share the same territory and have equivalent architecture. However, I do not know which real names would be used in the game, so these are just suggestions.

However, there are some that I have no idea what the variant would be, because this can vary a lot, being something focused on a famous army or period or “popular hero” and so on.

Note (how did I classify?): The choice to be a civilization is because it is focused between the 13th and 15th centuries. Now the variants would be focused on periods before or after their counterpart.

In this case, I have the following suggestions so far:

  • The Vijayanagara Empire or just called Vijayanagara, I will put as the standard civilization of South India and its variant would be the Muvendhar or also called Tamils, (this variant is formed “Cheras+Cholas+Pandya”).

  • The Burmese, could be the civilization and its variant I would put the “Toungoo Empire / Toungoo dynasty”, this variant being focused on a certain period, for example the 16th century.

  • The Majapahit could be the civilization and its variant I would put as being the Srivijaya Empire or just called Srivijaya.

  • Thailand could also be called the Kingdom of Ayutthaya or just Ayutthaya would be a civilization. Now its variant could be the Dvaravati.

And for existing civs that do not have a variant yet?

Umayyads Al-Andalus - Caliphate of Córdoba

There may be better names for some if these:

Khmer

Scandinavians

Bulgarians

Polish

Ethiopians

Mayans

Venetians

Spanish

No! The Muvendhar would NOT be a variant of the Vijayanagara especially if the name “Tamils” was to be used. If you want a variant of the Vijayanagara Empire, use something like a client state of the Vijayanagara Empire to be the variant.

Spanish Spanish Spanish

Italians (in city states “variants” Milano, Venice, Neapol)
Vikings

Ehiopia
Khmer Empire

The Rashiduun
The Ummayad
Emirate of Cordoba

I have a lot of ideas for new civilizations.

At least the ones that could work in any order:

  • Aztecs, Mayas, Incas, Mapuche
  • Spain (Castilla+Aragon), or Castilla and Aragon, Portuguese, Al-Andalus, Morocco Sultanate.
  • Hungary, Polony-Lithuany, Wallachia, Teutonic Kingdom
  • Vikings, Denmark, Sweden
  • Persian, Timurids
  • Vijayanagara, Rajputs, Chola, Odesa
  • Burmese, Khemer, Vietnamese, Koreans
  • Ethiopy
  • Florence, Milan, Venice, Genova, Papal States
  • Scottish, Irish, Wales

Variants, which “Depend” on other civs coming out before them:

  • Tlaxcala (Aztec variant).- Catholic saints pantheon and Cavalry units, thanks to spanish influence.
  • Moldova (Wallachia variant).- Religion as one of its 3 keywords, dont have Impaler pallisade.
  • Sweden (Denmark variant).- Same architecture but different Landmarks and unique units.
  • Irish (Scottish Variant).- Same architecture but different Lanmarks and roster, scottish mercenaries
  • Timurids (Persian Variant).- Persian architecture but Timurid Landmarks and units, and ####### units.
  • Milan and Florence (Variants of the other).- The first would be the parent civs an the other a variant, but only because both of them have share arquitecture and language; but different Landmarks and different mercenary contracts. Milan would be more aggresive, and Florence about technologies.

Possible variants of current civilizations:

  • Tudor.- (England variant). Anglican techs, 5th Resource: Pounds. USA: Demi-lancer, Caliverman, Red Coat
  • Mhugals.- (Delhi Sultanate variant). New Landmarks, UU: Mansabdar, Sepay, Zamburak,. Persian language
  • Songhai.- (Mali Variant), and historically this one occupied the same space, so it could be.
  • Golden Horde.- (Mongolian Variant), but they would be Islamic, sedentary, and with another set of Landmarks.
  • Crusader States.- (Bizantine Variant).- But instead of Mercenaries, they have Crusaders Knights of the many orders. Another set of Landmarks. Bizantine architecture because those territories were originally from the Eastern Roman Empire.

Civilizations that use mercenary mechanics, and need units from other civs:

  • Milan / Florence.- both need mercenaries from Spain, France, England, HRE, Hungary, etc

  • Netherland / Flemish / Burgundian-Netherland.- They need at least Spain, England, Tudor, Milan, to get historical mercenaries.

  • Tudor.- England variant, need Irish, Scottish, Ottoman, Morocco or Al-Andalus and some Italian Civs to get historical Mercenaries.

  • Byzantines.- Well, they were released a long time ago, but they could have more mercenaries, such as Genoese Crossbowmans, or Aragonese Almogavars.

Dark Age DLC: Last Glory of Rome:

  • Rome.- Byzantines variant, has Comitanense legionaries, Theaters, Baths and Coliseum as Wonders.
  • Goths.- Spain variant. From their nomadic time to the Visigoth Kingdom of Toledo.
  • Franks.- French variant. From their nomadic time to the founding of the Kingdom of Charlemagne
  • Huns.- Mongol variant, cavalry units cause Debuff to enemies out of fear, Villain: Attila.
  • 3 Kingdoms.- Chinese variant, of the 3 kingdoms. Three Dynasties of choice to advance to Feudal.

Well, I think it’s impossible to create 2 civilizations with “totally” different architectures, since both coexisted architecturally.

I’m sorry to inform you that this wouldn’t happen.

Regarding architecture, they would only be different in their landmarks and Monuments. Many people in the past on this forum have already agreed with this possibility.

Everyone already knows that AoE4 doesn’t have unlimited spaces to create totally unique civilizations in terms of visuals, even more so if they share the same space and architecture.

This is a game, not a documentary.

Don’t get me wrong. I would like all civilizations to be unique in every way. But it’s kind of obvious that not everything will be accurate. Just be grateful if the developers decide to give us a chance to reintroduce Southern India.

Obviously also, I don’t know the name of the variants… they could very well make a variant focused on a great hero or famous army from South India and so on.

Even then, they just have to figure out how to make the architecture look different. Both, the Muvendhar and Vijayanagara can still be added as base civs. I did made a concept on the Muvendhar while someone else made a concept on the Vijayanagara. So, here’s what they are:
