Game application loads for very long time before intro starts

Game Version:

  • Build (101.101.34055.0 4495784)
  • Platform (Steam)

Issue:

When I click on “Play” button in Steam, then I have to wait for a very long time (1 minutes 20 seconds), before application icon appears on task bar and intro starts. In previous builds launch was almost instantaneous.

Reinstalling the game, deleting user profile folder and uninstalling mods did not work :slightly_frowning_face:

Tested, 24 secs till the intro (xbox logo) appears, game installed on an old SSD.

For me it’s been like this since release, with no change in the new patch. Also, the intro video does not even play, just the sound. It’s just a minor issue though.

It was almost instantaneous for me before december patch. 24 seconds seems much longer than I previously had.

Really? It seems, that we have to avoid closing the game in order to avoid long loading time
It is very weird. It doesn’t even seem, like the game is loading or doing anything. It just sits for over a minute in task manager as a process taking ca 550 MB of RAM, seemingly idle. Then it suddenly starts to take more RAM and couple seconds later appears on task bar + intro starts playing.

I think, that this over a minute long idle time is certainly unnecessary and a bug.

Same here. For me it takes approximately 40 seconds. Installed on HDD.

Issue still exists in build “101.101.34397.0 4546676 Steam”.

When I launch AoE2 on Steam, it’s taking more than 1 1/2 minutes to get to the menu and the game is installed on an SSD! Compared to the HD edition, which only takes around 5 secs, this is a huge slow down.

In addition, when I quit the game, I am immediately on my desktop but Steam still shows me that the game is running. Only after like 10 secs, Steam finally tells me the game has quit. Other games quit instantaneously.

I tried with and without mods enabled and it makes little to no difference. Also note that I am not using the UHD package (it’s installed but not enabled ingame).

Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Issue:

The game launches normally, however it takes over 2 minutes to get from the launch screen to the main menu, most of which shows the splash screen.

The game is installed on a separate SSD from my OS, which is also on an SSD. In performance monitor I’ve noticed that sometimes it reads from the MFT on my OS drive for an extended period of time. SMART data shows no errors, disk checks reveal no errors.

Issue has become even worse in build “101.101.35584.0 4714640 Steam”. Now it takes 2 minutes before intro starts compared to previous 1 minute 20 seconds :slightly_frowning_face:

All seems fine here, tested again with a kinda humble specs (Celeron g3930, GT 1030, 4gb RAM, SSD). 40 secs for xbox logo show and 10 secs more to create a single player game.

40 seconds is much better than 2 minutes, although still quite long time.
I have i5-8250U, MX150, 16 GB RAM, HDD

Startup with SKIPINTRO takes 2 minutes 10 seconds until main menu loads in build “101.101.36202.0 4819260 Steam”.

Is this related to certain mods maybe?

I got almost the same result with all mods disabled :slightly_frowning_face:

Game Version: 101.101.37650.0 5061880

  • Build: Current 28/05
  • Platform: Steam
  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Gamertag: replaceme

Issue:

When I click on Play-Button in Steam then I have to wait for a long time, about 1,5 - 2 minutes, before the application icon appears on task bar and intro starts.

I have reinstalled the game and all mods disabled. Game is located on SSD. Even the start from the .exe take ages.

If on steam go to properties of game>set launch option on the general tab>write SKIPINTRO and restart. See if it fixes.

I don’t think it will completely but it might help speed up. I have no clue what the game is loading.

Thanks, but it did not speed up the whole process. :frowning:

put a space now and write HIGH (leave skipintro) and test

nothing has changed
