Game civilitzations

Norse
Franks
Abbasid Caliphate
Byzantines

Really the only options that make sense. These are still very limited, but perhaps the diversity between them can make it interesting while we wait for DLC

I guess we’re going to have Aztecs, Ethiopians and two between HRE/Franks/Byzantines/Abbasids.
They told us they were talking to people native to places in game. I can’t imagine this meaning just Europe, India, China and Mongolia. Anyway, they can do the campaigns the same way they did with AOE 3 DE, adding some pseudo-civs that fulfill the campaigns needs

Tbh I don’t want to see Meso civs. Mainly because most of the history are more suited for AoE3 and there isn’t much documentation of their history

lol    there is not much documentation of its history? just say that you would not like to see them, but do not say such ridiculous things as that their history is not well documented … someone from Mexico tells you.

Even in Wikipedia you can find tons of information, you can also visit the Mexican page of the INAH or read articles from the UNAM (autonomous university of Mexico), you can also follow pages such as Mexican archeology, if you were someone more casual, in fact, If you have any questions about any Mesoamerican civilization, write it in google and you will find a lot of information.

:point_right::point_right::point_right::point_right:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_chronology
And no, Mesoamerica are not only Aztecs (AOE3 time period), Mesoamerica was inhabited since 1800 BC by important civilizations such as the Olmecs, the main and greatest Mayan cities such as Calakmul and Tikal span the period 250-900 AD, Mixtecos and Teotihuacanos are also from that period and formed great cities like Monte Albán, and the majestic Teotihuacan, which you can visit today.

So if this set is true:

  • England
  • France
  • HRE
  • Rus
  • China
  • Mongols
  • Arabs
  • India

then it looks like the perfect choice of start civs.

Obviously, an AOE game has to be Eurocentric at least at the start. So the eternal England and France (the Red and the Blue, the yin and yang, the Longbowmen and the Knights) :slightly_smiling_face: should be the base on which everything else is layered.

HRE covers Germanic Europe, and since the Norse existed in their most prominent form (the Vikings) prior to the 12-14th century (I believe the game focuses on this period, at least for the start civs), Rus is a good choice - it covers Eastern Europe (Slavs and Orthodoxy) and is related to the Vikings at the same time.

Mongols are a must, a Muslim civ is a must (I believe, Turks and Byzantines will be included in a DLC with their own campaigns, as well as the American conquista and other continents), so the Caliphate is the only logical option.

At least one East Asian civ is a must: the Japanese were too isolated, so China is the perfect choice. Indian civ covers a big area outside of Europe and was one of the influential and culturally rich nations, so why not.

For starters, in my opinion, this is the perfect civ set for the game. It makes no sense to include nations from all parts and corners of the world (which haven’t even encounter each other) into the first 8 сivs. There will be DLCs no doubt .

I think the Age of Empires IV Announce Trailer back in 2017, at exactly 1:08. There is clearly a native north- American tribe (Sioux or Cree) on horse back. I know its a long shot for content in the game, and they probably just added the scene for cinematics. BUT…

I think it would be fun re-writing history since native north Americans are probably the biggest losers of history as a result of small pox capping them in the leg just before colonialism. Or even just to be included in the English or French campaign would be nice. Of course everyone wants their own race in the game lol, this was my bias.

In ancient history, only China could represent East Asia. Before the Meiji Restoration, Japan was relatively weak in East Asia and had a low sense of existence. Don’t be influenced by the propaganda of deified samurai culture.

My guess:

  • Franks
  • Vikings
  • HRE
    -Azects or Mayas
  • Ethiopias

And I didn’t say that Japan should be included before China for historical reasons. But I anticipate Japan will be added in the future for samurai fans as it has always been done. Doesn’t matter if it is propaganda, it is a common demand from many people, hence my reasoning.

I think the initial 8 civs will be based on play style uniqueness and historical importance.

From the trailer, 4 of them are confirmed as below:

  • English (West Europe, archery)
  • Indians (South Asia, elephant)
  • Chinese (East Asia, gunpowder)
  • Mongols (Nomad, cavalry)

My guess for the rest 4:

  • Norse/Viking
  • Romans/Byzantine
  • Turks/Ottoman
  • Arabs/Saracen

Possible candidates:

  • Franks (There is already a west Europe civ English, but Franks are extremely likely candidate because of historical importance during this period and game play uniqueness)
  • German/HRE (but it is not a unified civ, and not influential enough)
  • Spanish (but its most active period is AOE3 timeline)
  • Persians (but its most active period is AOE1 timeline)
  • Japanese (it is simply not important or influential enough, except for ninja/samurai fans)
  • Slavs (it is not as important as others, and Kevian Rus 1st dynasty Rurik is Norse origin)

Future Expansion candidates:

  • American civs
  • African civs

Historically, they were just too far behind Eurasians in terms of socio-political structure, technology and military power. Their unique game play is definitely there. They can be great expansion civs. But I don’t think they will be in original release.

In sum, I think they will be 4 of the below 5:
Norse, Romans, Turks, Arabs, Franks
