Can’t get the game to work either lol. When I load it up it says I need to sign into my microsoft account despite already being signed in, then it tries making me an account and keeps telling me no internet connection. Cant get further than the start screen apparently because I can’t log in.
Anyone else experience this issue?

FIXED IT! see if you have the same luck.I use Trend Micro Internet Security. Because Microsoft has “security” on the WindowsApps folder AND the AoEDE.exe file the firewall can’t access them to make an exception, nor can you manually select the file to make an exception.
SO, firstly you need to be the system administrator. Then you change “ownership” of the WindowsApps folder and give yourself ownership and full permissions. That lets you get through to you AoEDE directory. Once you get there, you need to do the same again to the AoEDE.exe file. THEN you can navigate and select the exe file to make an exception in your internet security program.
Hope this helps.
Big thanks to Ryan from Forgotten Empires for the back an forth and helping to eliminate some issues.
Does this solve the issue with closing the game during start or does it solve the issue with closing and redirecting to MS Store when trying to start eg. a campaign from main menu?
do we have a moderator arround? seems like we got all different issues. So it would be better to have different threads !?
I can start the game itself but i cant play any match (campaign and skirmish) it returns to the Shop. Would be helpful to have an update on that specifically
Just tried the next round of suggestions, which also didn’t work.
Thanks Microsoft for taking so much care with a “beloved franchise”.
So for the only official message REINSTALL, and lots of users with random speculative fixes.
Same here, I’ve tried all the proposed solutions but nothing worked…
Do you reckon it could be a file permissions issue? Because I can’t change the AoEDE.exe file ownership to personal and although I have full control of the files if I try to open it an error prompts saying that “Windows cannot access the file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item”
Idk, this sucks… : '(

I was able to navigate the menus up to pressing 'Play", where the game closed and redirected to MS Store.
Adding AoEDE to Trend Micro Firewall exceptions solved this issue.
Has anyone had an issue where they game keeps trying to sync to xbox live? Mine keeps sitting at 0%, ive tried reinstalling, turning off anti virus / firewalls, emptying the cache, and nothing
The game crashes on the splash screen on 2 different pc’s.
I have tried reinstalling, did not work.
I am running the latest windows insider build (rs4) on both machines, windows defender is my anti virus protection.

This is stupid Microsofts fault. They have “ownership” of folders and files on your PC and extra security on Microsoft Store folders and files. This is why people are not able to play. When you installed the game, the firewall wasn’t able to access the .exe file to add it to the exception list. Here is a rough walk through. You’ll need to do this to the WindowsApps folder AND the AoEDE.exe file.
You need to log in as administrator.
Find the “Windows Apps” folder.
Right click, properties.
Security tab.
Advanced
Change Owner (default will be system).
Now you need to choose who is in charge.
Click Advanced
Click Find Now
Find your username
Make sure your username has full authorisation to view/modify/etc
Apply.
Now your user is now authorised to open the folders, open the .exe file etc and most importantly, add the exe file to the firewall exception list.
I think that’s all I did.

see my posts. I had that exact issue. I’ve found a fix for it.
Yesterday I couldn’t launch the game. Then I started download of free game as suggested in this thread, paused it. I could run it. Today I started it successfully several times. I had break, returned to PC, game not launching again. I again started download of that free game and it is running again.
I’ve made a separate thread for the crash that happens when you’re about to start a new game.

Hey mate, thanks for the help, but I’m still not able to open the .exe file
I’m the only user/admin on my pc and even with the full permission given to the file and the Windows Apps folder, the AoEDE.exe file keeps appearing with a “lock” and I cannot open it.
And I only have Windows Defender and Windows Firewall installed…
The only thing I’ve noticed after doing this is that the game crashes even faster, like 2 secs wit the AoE cover photo and then it closes…
i have already uninstall and reinstall and re downloaded that 17+ GB , but still,
every time i start the game
that Windows Store pop up always show
saying, Im too early… (early for what?)
" We know you really want to get started, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer. Check the store for the launch date. "
WTH is this???
please help me.
Then I try to start AoE DE there is a blackscreen, then for a short moment sound and after this the backscreen closes itself.
Is there anyone the the exact same problem? Any solution?

I´m with the same problem. I use only Windows Defender too.
Microsoft need to solve this! Urgently!!
Currently having the same issue, I played the beta easily but the game won’t launch an I tried all the solutions, I don’t mind on waiting for a fix though
