Game spontaneously crashes after latest update

My game is crashing spontaneously since the Xbox update. The crashes happen at varied points after queueing for a 1v1 RM game. I have had crashes in the following instances:

  • While waiting to find a match
  • After finding a match
  • Early during a match
  • Late during a match

The crash manifests as the game just disappearing from my screen and the desktop appearing.

I am getting this issue all the time now. It is making the game unplayable for me.

I have tried verifying game files via Steam, reinstalling the game, and disabling all my mods. None of this has helped.

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Queue for a match
  2. Play normally
  3. Sometimes it crashes at any point before a match might end. Sometimes it does not

The game was not supposed to disappear from my screen and the application close during a match. I have never had this problem before the latest update.

This is one example of a game that crashed. The crash happened quite late in the game, after playing for 1:05 in-game time. nothing remarkable seemed to be occurirng. This game should be Poles vs Hindustanis on African Clearing, but I have had crashes on all maps now.

I am facing the same issue. Have crashed in 6/7 games i tried playing tonight. I can share my mini dump files or anything else required to help debug. Hopefully a dev responds to this soon.

Hi,

I’m having the same issue, except for me the crashes are completely random. Sometimes it will crash in the main menu 2 min after launch, other times it will be 30 min into a match.

I play on Steam and I’ve disabled all mods, verified integrity of local files, and completely re-installed it with no luck.

I’m running Windows 10 version 22H2 with an RTX 3080TI(with latest driver), i7-11700k, and 32GB of RAM so it shouldn’t be struggling to run it by any means.

I tried to paste a link to a google drive with all the MDMP files but this site must block URL’s. I tried uploading the files directly to this post but it blocked me since this is a new account. Cool…

I have the same problem. I completely uninstalled the game and wiped all data and installed it on another hard drive. All updates are installed (Win 10), including the latest graphics drivers. There is also no real point in time that I can determine. As already described above.

The issue seems to be from the new steam achievements since the latest updates. I am a new user so it doesn’t let me upload attachments, but this is what it says in my crash logs:

I’ve updated my original post to add a .mdmp file from one of my crashes in cases it helps.

Like lazershark438, my build is using pretty new hardware and there’s no reason to think the issue is related to my device. I’m not experience crashes in any other games right now, even more demanding ones, but since the update, AOE2 DE is crashing most of the time for me.

Running into the same issue, as mentioned above it happens randomly and occasionally while in the main menu.

Awesome, glad to hear it! I hope we can hear an update on this soon. A lot of us just can’t play now and that really sucks - a hotfix or solution would be really nice.

So earlier this week, I logged out of the Xbox app and I had been able to play maybe 10 or 20 consecutive games without crashing. Today, I tried to play and the issue has returned. My game crashed once during the queue and a second time during a match. Here is my mdmp and my rec.

So if anything changed between yesterday and today, it could be the cause of some of the crashes.

It’s been 13 days since this issue started. Can we get some transparency on this?

Yeah, I would appreciate a real update too. This isn’t the sort of problem that should occur and last this long in an established game.
