Since this game mode is in beta and the devs are looking for feedback here are some of my ideas.
When we are playing co-op whoever is second player doesn’t get any rewards for helping. This should be priority number one in my opinion. It makes it so that you only want to work on your gauntlet instead of helping a friend with theirs. This should be changed to be like AOTG story mode so you can both get rewards. Maybe by making you both have to run through the whole gauntlet together to prevent cheese?Maybe you can have a saved gauntlet run with another player that you can pick back up when you are both ready to play. I like the new update. It’s definitely better that you can get the temporary blessings for the run while helping someone but I still feel like you need to unlock permanent ones to as well. Since you are putting in a lot of time as well.
It would be nice if we could play with 3 or 4 player co-op. I usually have two friends that want to play and it sucks that we can’t play gauntlet together. We have to just play a normal skirmish instead or leave someone out.
There aren’t more AI players when playing co-op. When you play AOTG story co-op it will automatically increase the number of enemies you have to face to make sure the difficulty is balanced with having more players. It would be nice if the gauntlet could do that as well.
Too many lightning/deathmatch rounds. I like having these in the gauntlet. It helps to keep things changing but I think there are too many currently. They kinda make it too easy, so it’s almost a free win. I still have fun playing them but I think there should be less of those and more standard ones. This one is fixed completely. Thank you for listening!
Meta favor seems kinda useless currently. I really like the idea but I never seem to need to use it. It doesn’t help that about 50%-75% of games are lightning or deathmatch. Maybe a way to make it more useful is to let you trade it for favor or maybe individual units or groups of units? Seems they updated this as well. Still not super useful for me but maybe as I level up it will have more utility.
This final one is easy. I WANT MORE! (Please) More legends to play as. More eternal blessings that you keep between runs. More meta game progression in general and maybe some longer runs where the difficulty ramps up over time.
Can’t use favor stash in co-op. (Just found this out) I assume this is a bug but if not it sucks. We should be able to use our favor stash when playing co-op for obvious reasons. Fixed!
Overall I’m super happy with the new gauntlet Mode and the new DLC in general. It’s better than I had hoped. So thank you very much devs. Keep listening to community feedback, y’all are making a wonderful game even better! (Love the new cheat codes btw).
If anyone else has any requests or ideas let me know. If you think mine are terrible let me know as well. Looking forward to what the devs can do with this new game mode!
I think the other player doesn’t get anything because its not his run and he is just joining someone else’s and after every match you need to reinvite them as I have seen from a Boit video. Imagine someone joins a run on the final level and get top reward and never having to do a full run that is a exploit that would exist if you got permanent rewards from helping someone complete their run on just that final mission.
I’m not going to play it because it has a global leaderboard that is permanently visible that anyone can see and I just want to have fun and not feel like I am in competition with everyone with everything I do.
AoMR has so many things that stops me from just having fun with the game from bugs, performance issues, no ability to disable Wonders and allowing people to permanently view stuff from games I play when I just want to have fun.
One suggestion I have is for the harder difficulties to start with higher tier blessings.
I imagine few people will be super excited to use a ‘simple’ tier blessing when playing on the highest difficulty. Because of this, they’ll probably just use their favorite starter blessing and choice of eternal blessings to start each gauntlet, which will end up limiting the creativity of strategies employed.
If someone is playing on the highest difficulty, let them get a little bit power crept with the different divine tier blessings.
Perhaps even let people choose 2 starter blessings for the hardest difficulty so they can leverage strategies to overcome the advantages afforded the AI opponents.
Additionally, I don’t think the fog of war on the missions page is necessary at the start of the gauntlet. I would like the whole path to be revealed, and then locked in once choices are made. Then, if there’s a blessing you really like or want to try out a higher tier version of, you’ll actually have a chance to route to it instead of getting to the end and finding out that your Divine Blessing is something that you can’t use effectively.
You’re going to need to touch grass. The govt logs your entire life in their database.
Literally NO ONE is going to care about your scores vs AI opponents in Age of Mythology.
You can already cheese it like that with AOTG story. I personally would like it if you could have a gauntlet save that way you can complete the whole run with someone but don’t have to wait on them if you want to play without them. I don’t pay attention to the leaderboards because I am playing to have fun with friends not compete for the fastest time. Regardless of whether there is or isn’t cheese you still need rewards when you play co-op with a friend.
Those are great ideas. I like the idea to remove the fog so you can plan out your run better. I also wouldn’t say no to more blessings so you can really power up your army.
I don’t play ranked anymore in games because I just want to have fun and not compete against everyone on a leaderboard ladder which caused me to want to play using the most optimal way to get the best result. I like trying out a lot of different things in games now which is fun but when your getting judged from a score that is permanently viewable to everyone inside the game for everyone to see it makes it not so fun anymore for me and I know I am not the only one with this mindset that is why not everyone likes playing ranked games and instead plays lobby games a lot.
I have seen how people look at someones stats from inside a game from some people seeing you played a lot of games and saying things like you spend too much time on the game so get a life or calling you a noob if they happen to be better then you even when your above average at playing the game. That stuff doesn’t happen a lot but it does happen once in a while.
The whole point of showing a leaderboard inside a game is for the reactions to it otherwise it would have a hidden ranking system.
Standard Blessing:
Bragi’s Kennings - Doubles God Technology Effects
I was thinking some ideas that might be cool are the following:
Osiris’s Call - Select a radius to instantly revive and fully heal all allied units that have died within in the last 5 minutes within that radius.
-Good for suicide siege and potential for co-op usage
Hephaestus’ Forge - All armory upgrades 75% off
-This would be a big boon to Thor’s economy in this mode
Loki’s Whimsy - Add Loki’s myth unit summoning ability to any pantheon
-Probably tough to program, but it would be fun for an arcade mode like Arena of the Gods
Vidar’s Growing Weapons -Allow for a similar effect of Avenging Spirit tech for all weapons, or maybe just infrantry weapons
This is just a really cool and fun god technology that would be fun to see on other pantheons, too
Odin’s Instruction or Thor’s Battlefield
-Allow for Norse style favor generation for any pantheon
This could be a way to rack up favor really quickly and go for myth unit strategies that might not otherwise be accessible
Apollo’s Optical Acuity
-Massive line of sight and range upgrade for all ranged soldiers
For the folks that really enjoy archer balls and the shoot and scoot play style
Ra’s Empowerment
-Allow any unit that has single target healing to empower buildings like Ra’s priests.
I think it would be funny to watch Valkeries empowering buildings for Odin, for example
Not everyone enjoys the same things and that’s OK I won’t be moving past that to then play it and there is nothing someone says will change that. I don’t enjoy playing ranked games anymore so it’s unfortunate they made this mode that you can play by yourself be ranked only so I am going to continue to play what I enjoy and not deal with things that can be avoided that I don’t enjoy. Those that enjoy it continue to have fun.
I wish they had a unranked version while also having this version for those that enjoy climbing the leaderboard so that is my feedback and have nothing more to say on this topic.
Gauntlet isn’t ranked, there’s no ranking by performance or ELO / MMR system.
The Leaderboard just shows who has completed the most runs and their fastest time.
It’s basically the same as Steam which shows how many hours you played a game, which also features external leaderboards for players to personally compare themselves to others for how fast they 100%’d a game, what their Steam level is, etc. But no one is going to message another user on Steam and judge/insult them for how long they played a game or how long it took them to 100% a game, even though that data is publicly tracked on various websites.
What do y’all think about changing that when the host gets defeated in-game it instantly counts as a loss for them even in co-op?
We were playing sudden death (my friend was host) and he said some siege towers snuck in and destroyed his citadel while his army was out attacking. I won the match but he still lost a heart and didn’t get any rewards. I was thinking it could still take a heart because they did get defeated but it would still progress the run since your co-op partner beat the mission. That way it encourages them to pay attention and learn so they don’t lose all hearts.
To add on to this, one legend blessing I was surprised wasn’t there is Arkantos. Don’t know why they left him out but he would be a good addition. I like your idea for reviving units with a blessing. That would lead to some nice co-op gameplay. My only issue is that I don’t know where they would put that power in the UI. Since you need to use it in the middle of a battle to get great results. There are so many heroes and blessings that we could unlock I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next.
Yeah, it would require a new UI slot. My thinking is it could be like the Titan Gate button that appears to the right of the god powers, or further to the right of the Titan Gate if you have both available to you.
I think the favor market should make you able to purchase Relics.
Legends can also have relic slot on them. Then these “relic” can be added to the reward pools. Easiest implementation is either your legend spawn carrying it or it automatically granted to your first temple. For the pool I would mainly add the novelty one and not villagers are cheaper etc
Imagine you start with Pegasus while playing as Kronos, that would set up very aggressive play on island map or the great wall/forest map etc.
That’s an interesting idea. I think I would prefer it if you could just purchase a relic from the market and it would spawn near it. That way they are specifically for that mission rather than a permanent buff. My thinking is that the favor stash is supposed to be used for a temporary buff during missions rather than used for permanent upgrades. Still a cool way to get relics that don’t spawn in that round.
If I never get another chaos event ever again it will be too damn soon. Why do they start off the bat as mythic god powers? Why can’t they be something that happens out on the map that can be avoided/played around? Why can’t they spawn good things like relics or resources or something good that I have to compete with the computers to secure? I actually don’t mind the event where myth units come attack you because you can actually interact with that one. But the ones that boil down to “fuck your buildings and your villagers” can fuck aaaaaaaaaall the way off. They’re not fun or interesting in the slightest.
