Totally agree. Need to keep rewards for the two players.
To be fair the only that matter is the lighning one and the myth units spanw one. The tornado is a very nerfed version that doesnt kill you tc and you have plenty of time to garrison any villager farming or near the tc. Earquake literaly does nothing, it doesnt destroy any houses or anything (thank god beacuse that would e annoying), same for meteor and the lighting drums.
The myth unit spawn it find it odd since you can get very unlocky with what gets spawned and the damage it deals. Its also hilarious it cant completely kill the AI by its own.
I actually like the chaos events. I think they are kinda fun. I have to ring the bell whenever it’s one of the god power ones though. It makes the game feel very chaotic. Which to me was always the fun of AOM vs other AOE games. I can understand your point though. It would be annoying to have them if you didn’t enjoy having your eco wrecked and having to rebuild. Maybe a solution is to make it so that the god powers only happen on higher difficulties? Like titan difficulty and up.
Here are a few suggestions that I personally believe could make this mode better.
- The new mode should introduce more types of missions, similar to those in StarCraft II’s Co-op Mode — such as defending a base within a fixed time, defeating powerful bosses within a time limit, escort or payload missions, and so on — instead of just various combinations of skirmish settings.
- The amount of favor earned should vary with difficulty, and the cap on favor gained outside of matches should be removed. A store could be added where excess favor can be used to purchase items such as avatars, portraits of major or minor gods, or skins for units, buildings, or legends. This would encourage players to replay the mode. Optional paid cosmetics, similar to the skin system in Age of Empires III, could also be introduced, since it seems this game could use additional financial support.
- If possible, there should be more legends, and the legends system should be made more complex. For example, in the legend selection screen, players could upgrade their legends, unlocking new active or passive abilities at each level (with differences between heroes). Favor earned outside matches could be used to buy exclusive equipment or items for legends (only one can be equipped per game). This would make legends grow stronger through play and increase replayability.
- Given the above point, more difficulty options should be added to further enhance replayability.
- Before each match, players should be able to select three unit variants (similar to the unit variants in StarCraft II’s Co-op Mode) or special units designed specifically for this mode — even defensive buildings. The current towers and fortresses are too conservative; there could be more creative designs, like towers that summon lightning or fireballs. These units could be hired during the match (similar to the Tavern in Age of Empires III), and since they are hired, they would be shared across all pantheons, reducing the amount of design work needed. These units could be unlocked through playing this mode, just like legends. Since this mode doesn’t need to focus too heavily on balance, it doesn’t need to be as restrained as standard modes. PvP already has too few players, and the developers should recognize the importance of PvE. Focusing on PvE development is the key to retaining players; otherwise, people will only return briefly during DLC releases. This game already feels somewhat like a nostalgic illusion — being a little bolder wouldn’t hurt. Sticking to the same old Age of Empires-style operation model will hardly lead to success.
Personally, not a fan so far.
I think they tried to add too many gimmicks and modifiers on top of an already great game and it messes with the flow of the matches themselves. No need for player and enemy blessing events on top of the blessings you already pick before starting each game, chaos events are mostly annoying and feel like a worse version of the World Twist gimmick, Favor saving feels unnecessary… I feel like I’m trying to spin too many plates at once, it’s just not my cup of tea.
But I like the idea of a gauntlet mode, a randomly generate ‘campaign’ for AoM is a fun idea, I just wish the actual matches were less chaotic.
Since the release of Gauntlet mode. The second player doesn’t receive the reward in story mode too ![]()
We started story mode with a friend last month, and now we’re playing it again, but this bug is really upsetting us…
In a roundabout way this is good to hear. That means it’s most likely a bug and not a design choice to have the second player not receive rewards for gauntlet.
I recently looking at modding and there is this one guy who mod a leveling system to legends using the veterancy system (reset to 1 every matches). I think currently the veterancy system is limited to stat boost and not upgrade (such as new special attack etc). There is also the bushido XP system so theoretically you could make a leveling system as well.
I’ve been making changes to this mod and try to balance it, and make each legend more unique, but finger crossed.
I think Dev can adopt this approach and implement it and possibly more. This way the legend specific blessing can carry further in the late game as your legends are more powerful and will level up faster.
A veterancy system would be fun to have in for your legend. Like you said that way they can really stand out late game.
Give Circe the ability to turn infrantry into pigs! Mostly becease its thematic & fun. It is a tade OP but it could have a long cooldown. Also in PvP OP is bad, but in single player or Co-op OP is fun!
Give the option of deploying another Legend with meta favor. I assume thats what ‘Hire a Buddy’ would do, was super disapointed to learn it just gave a myth unit.
Standard rules games take far longer than Lightening & Death Match games so they should provide short cuts (skip a mission). I much perfer Standard rules but never play them as a Gauntlet run takes far too long.
Kastor (Legend) isn’t in the select all Heroes hotkey. I often send him out for Relics and forget where he is. Very minor but very easy to fix.
Exclude heroes from the Select All military Units Hotkey when they are tasked on gathering Relics or returning Relics to the Temple. This is already done for when Pharohs tasked to Empower or when Norse units are tasked to build so it can’t be that hard to do.
When playing as Alanteans and you get the random Blessing for free Dwarfs its utterly useless as they have to long range mine from TC. Just make the Alantean Citizens mobile dropsites or make the Ox Cart buildable by all civs (it wouldnt matter if the changes were gobal as you would need units from different civs to make either thing work).
Maybe make the badges easier to obtain for sure…
Defeating a labyrinth boss in 10 minutes on extreme difficulty or above seem a bit too much. Or beating the labyrinth boss with no blessings on legendary.
I have also seen pro players not being able to beat the gauntlet mode on legendary so that is really telling.
Also, I think it would be a cool idea to include more than 1 legend per game. Theris and Kamos! Bebop and Rocksteady haha
Isnt the whole point for it to be. A challenge? Theres no power attached to them so its nice they can be gatekept by skill.
Even thou all of them you can get by cheesing or exploiting if you wanna go that route.
Its heavily dependant on what Last misión you get, it can go from brain dead easy to very very Hard.
No really. Manipulating AI, fikding strategies are all things that work very different from multiplayer. You are not beating a 1 vs 4 playing normally like you would your in ranked. Thats the whole reason you have either blessings or legends or World twists.
That sounds Cool, to be able to Mix legends and expande possible synergies.
What cheesing strategies do you have for extreme and legendary difficulties?
Before that you gotta see what mode you are in. Theres Standard, lighting, deathmatch and then the other is conquest, regicide, sudden death and the vault one.
The best and easiest combo by far is standard regicide. Any early aggresion to delay their economy and a small army investment to take down the tower the “king” is at and win.
An example is you can go Kronos with kastor as legend. Send 1 murmillo/ Kastor hero to each opponent, hit a villager, AI always town bells all of them, this buys you time. Atty eco is easy to manage so its not tricky to micro. Keep poking the food so the AI doesnt age up or its delayed.
Once you age up all you need is around 5-6 new murmillo, go to the tower the reagent is at, either take it down or deco it, surround it and its dead, hop into the next TC and repeat.
The other easier one is Sudden death. I did this on lighting, got tsukuyomi, turtled in base, got to mythic, went the god that gives shinobi the invis. Made 20. 5 distract an army to chase while the other 15 blitz the citadel, rinse an repeat of the others. To defend myself ii went full towers with the unique upgrade, then palaces and made some of those heroe siege to aoe units down, used the free myths and a couple samurai as shields.
Havent gotten the vault one much. The few times i saw it it was on the map that has the great wall separating the 2 sides and i had the vault on my side. I was Nuwa, i simply 3 tc boomed my way into mythic, took control of the vault and spammed towers and fortresses. My army was basically tiger calv, fire archers and azure dragons. By the time the AI got pass the wall i was set up to simply hold. Used wave to destroy enemy catapults when they got a decent mass of them and kept holding.
Any of this with the AOE on heroes blessing makes it A LOT easier to do since holding a single point is very easy when you just mow down enemies with a single unit type you can easily mass.
By far the hardest ones IMO are any deathmatch that has no alternative win condition (sudden death/vault/etc) since you can blitz 1 or 2 AI but the others are quick to overwhelm. Havent done this without blessings, but with the AOE on heroes i managed to do it with with tsukuyomi, massing the siege hero and slowly crawling my way.
If you wanna go for the fast clear, you can go either amanra or the anubite hero with AOE on heroes, on standard. All you need is to jump into the vills, you can kill them in 1-2 jumps and quickly mak ethe opponent surrender (unless its conquest) Then rinse and repeat for the other AI, you can do this to 2.3 AI before they get a decent army to defend themselves, then its simply a 1v1 or 1v2 which you can blitz with either strat you like, mass sphinx with eclipse and the free vill on house made, Oranos hero murmillo, etc.
Its good that you can see the end level when initiating a run so you can just reset until you have what you want.
its quite easy to do the no-blessing badge (and beating in 10 minutes thing too) depending on gamemode that the final battle gets. If Standard + Regicide, you just go and cheese AIs before they can do anything. Dont have to be pro or even decent at the game to do it
Gauntlet is quite random overall, sometimes you get easy missions, sometimes can be very hard even for someone good at the game
I find that the chaos events mean i rarely will switch off Gaia just because the lush means i do not need to constantly pull builders off economy to run repairs. I also find chaos events especially annoying when dealing with the Aphrodite effect because some of then can kill off all or almost all of the workers you have managed to gather if they are not far enough away (I find lightning strikes to be the biggest offender here).
Would be cool if the blessings that we have earned from each node are permanently saved.
Please do something about ‘nomad’ modes. No legend means it’s almost impossible to win certain scenarios.
Yea, this types of maps should always come in a dual node option so people that want the challenge can do so while others can hop to another one
Kastor does spawn.
Also no Regent spawns with the first Town Center.
