Would be nice to have Cerce have some special ability like transform one human unit into a pig - even if she’d need to be fine tuned to have lower damage. It just would fit her better and make her more interesting as a hero. Also it’d be nice to have some other bonuses for finishing gauntlets like your hero levels up/unlocks new abilities similar to Warcraft 3 or Starcraft 2 Coop
I love the new update. They fixed quite a few of the problems pretty quickly. I like being able to get some bonus when helping a friend. Even though they are temporary it’s still better than before. Also the favor stash for co-op is fixed as well. Going to finish my run so I can see how the less lightning and deathmatch plays. I’m looking forward to more normal skirmish games. I updated my original post to hopefully better reflect the current state of things. Overall this patch is definitely a move in the right direction. The devs seem to listen to feedback which I really appreciate! Just wish they would stop by the forums every once and awhile. I guess it gets too time consuming though.
I have completed a few runs now. The mode is growing on me… I definitely feel that the recent patches were good improvements, introducing more variety for the chaos events and making them less TC-focused.
But my main complaints remain: Most chaos events are not fun or engaging, getting my TCs blasted with lightning or meteors every couple of minutes is not challenging, it’s annoying. Losing my sheep to a random hurricane is not a fun twist. Having to bell alarm all my TCs at once because an arbitrary timer has counted down is not a strategic decision.
Favor stashing and its leveling up system still feels distant and inconsequential to the actual skirmishes. I don’t always build markets and even when I do, I always forget about this feature. I would suggest to move it from the market to the temple or add it as a special button to the UI.
Legends are still unbalanced. King Halogi remains far more powerful than other legends. I’m not asking for a Halogi nerf, I’m asking for buffs for the other legends to make them more interesting.
We need clearer information on blessings and their actual effects. Like what is the actual difference between a simple blessing, a fine blessing and a heroic one? We currently have to simply guess the numbers. Knowing how powerful each blessing will help us to make better decisions and to care more about earning them.
This part you can through loggys mod for. Tooltips. Its a Shame its not baseline but if you want the extra info that way you can have it. Its ranked compatible if that is a worry.
I would love for them to give a buff to a lot of heroes. As well as give them more unique abilities. Some heroes are definitely way better then others. I also think having more info for blessings would be a positive. Some numbers or percentages would go a long way on clearing them up. It would also help us see which blessing might need some help if they are underperforming. Agree with the favor stash as well. Needs more things that are unlockable early on so you can spend the favor you are hoarding.
Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment but I enjoy the chaos events that hit your base. I am glad they nerfed the lightning though. That one seemed slightly more powerful compared to the rest. I always find that the AI doesn’t really know where the best place is to use their god powers. So for me that helps to make it more challenging by making god powers wreck your economy if you aren’t paying attention. I’d be fine if they made a toggle to make them less frequent since you and other people find it frustrating.
I think destructive chaos events can be improved in a few ways to make them more engaging. The way they currently are balanced have them in an awkward middle ground where they can’t be too powerful and do serious damage to your base, but they can’t be so weak that you can simply ignore them. So they are just annoying. Some ideas I have to improve them would be:
-
Have them target only one random TC per player. Having all your TCs targeted at once discourages the player from expanding as it becomes increasingly harder to manage all the damage you suffer to your economy and infrastructure.
-
Have them hit less frequently, but hit harder. If we are doing random disasters, we might as well commit. They should do real damage, not just kill a few sheep and maybe some villagers.
-
Tie them to some challenge or mini-game. How about if in the middle of a match, the game throws you a challenge: “Gather X relic” or “Accumulate x amount of Favor” or “train x amount of myth units” and if you fail the challenge, then you get punished with a random disaster. This is far more engaging to the player than just sitting around waiting for a clock to countdown to zero. It creates an unique challenge that can punish or reward players for engaging with the game.
I think that eternal blessings should get their own slot or slots. There’s just no reason to take any of the early blessings once you get 2 eternal blessings.
Otherwise the level of blessings could be completely random or maybe at least weighted. I’ve cruised through many a run in Hades due to getting a powerful boon early and while divine boons should probably not be allowed or at least be pretty rare early on in this framework I think it would be better than the first few rounds being pointless as far as blessings go. Having the occasional easy run due to power luck early has been a part of every rogue-like game I’ve played and I don’t really see any reason why gauntlet mode shouldn’t have that as well. It’s a fun as long as every run isn’t made trivial.
I was hoping a departure from Arena of the Gods mode and more of a SC II Co Op Commanders-like system
What a missed opportunity man!
I don’t know what it is about modern game companies and the need to make everything always online but if I’m playing gauntlet by myself there is no damn reason why I should get kicked out of my game because my internet dropped. Absolutely no reason. I promise you 99% of the people playing gauntlet don’t care if their runs are uploaded to some ladder no one cares about.
