Give this fort to Franks

Don’t forget the Monks as well. Monastery and Monks will be a great step towards regional skin accuracy for the civs.

Paradoxically, the Castle of the Eastern European Architecture Set is based on the Teutonic Castle in Malbork, which was the capital of the Teutonic Order. Of course it should be a unique Castle model for Teutons civ.

Of course. It’s a pity that this is cut content, because there is evidence that the developers worked on it to add to DE version.

Imagine the Pope skin as Monk for Romans civ :smirk:

Nothing wrong with that, especially if it comes as a DLC.

I was nitpicking on the “it makes no sense” remark, not saying that they absolutely shouldnt get a visual upgrade for their castle, what I am pretty neutral about.

The Western European and Central European castles are both based on English castles. If all civs were to get unique castles I’d hope only one of those would be kept in as the now Brit-only castle while the other gets moved to the scenario editor.

Similarly, the Eastern European castle was built by Teutons and the Middle Eastern one is potentially based on Krek des Chevaliers or an Italian castle.

I constantly suggest unique monasteries as well

From Aoe wiki - * The Middle Eastern Castle resembles a simplified version of the Castel Nuovo in Naples, Italy, but with decorative elements from the gates and round towers at Saladin’s Cairo Citadel. The merlons are Moorish style, like those in the Almoravid Qubba.

Other inaccuracies -

  1. African Castle is based on Berbers castles.
  2. Bengalis Castle is based on a late 17th century fort.

Yeah I’d move it to the scenario editor and give the Middle Eastern civs new castles

Not sure if this is the direct inspiration, but the Central Asian Castle looks very close to Shapur Khast Castle in Iran.

I always thought that it was Herat Citadel, but that’s possible too.

It looks superficially similar, but the Herat Citadel is from Alexander the Great’s time, and the ramparts don’t really match.

Or we could give everyone a unique castle since THEY started handing out unique castles to most of the new dlc civs. The Persian rework should’ve came with a changed architecture and new castle especially if they put in all that work.

Also as iconic as the WE castle is, I always apply the fortress mod because it never appealed to me. I also change the Woadraiders into the William Wallace mod to give it that Middle Age feeling and not the Braveheart/Picts feeling.

Aoe wiki says it is Herat Citadel.

Yeah absolutely. But there are already 2 English castle. So 1 need to go. I’d choose West Europe to stay for Britons and Central European one need to be moved into scenario editor.

I have dedicated 15 weeks in a row to create a meme about it on reddit. And also post in this thread.

Who do you think added that to the page in the first place?

Umm…@SauravT?

JK. Was that you? Didn’t know you’re Aoe_wiki mod.

I’m pretty sure it was indeed me, but I’m checking the history to make sure, because I could be misremembering. Yup, it was me. So I’m the source of the info, which means don’t treat the wiki as a definitive authority. In fact, I would generally advise against treating architectural inspiration info on the wiki as authoritative, unless it’s clearly 1 to 1, because it’s all conjecture and opinion.

My status as a wiki mod/admin goes under the radar quite a bit because I don’t use the same name here and there.

The self-referencing Thirisadai is now replaced with the self-referencing Herat Citadel haha!

Keep the memes coming!

At least the latter actually existed, which is a plus.

Yup. Building skins aren’t neccesarily bound to the architecture set, that’s something @Hjoerleif and I found out when we changed the Britons wonder back to Aachen Cathedral for our AoK mod. The same can be said about unit skins btw which you especially notice in Galactic Battlegrounds as Rebel villagers are R2 droids whereas Gungans and Wookies have their people as villagers.

That being said, I actually like SMUM’s idea of making the Tower of London the new British wonder but that would mean on the other hand that they’d loose Chichester Cathedral that replaced Aachen Cathedral with DE’s release.

Actually the Thirisadai was too. Or at least, something that was very close to it (name might not be correct).

Evidence? Because the ship as described on Wikipedia is something that is highly implausible and too modern for the time period.
