I think that being included in the advanced arsenal is enough. It would be 2 birds with one stone, since the grenadiers acquire the ability to shoot, and on the other hand, civilizations without grenadiers will be able to unlock them without the need for an additional card.
It is not a decent reference for enabling Ronin training in European theaters.
Hasekura was a samurai visiting Europe as a diplomat, not a ronin, not a kabuki, not a mercenary, not to fight. The number of Japanese coming to Europe with him was small (about 140), the time was short, and the Japanese did not provide military service on the European battlefield. After his diplomatic mission, Japan entered a period of rejection of Christianity and isolationism, and no one had traveled to Europe for centuries.
Perhaps for Spainish and Italians, Hasekura’s Mission can be a reference for a card similar to the Passage to Nippon card that ships Ronin, but not for Europeans’ Theater card to enable Ronin instead of other European units that actually served the European countries on the battlefields.
Why not granting the countries with the theater the corresponding mercenaries like the asian civ one does?
Italy? theather unlocks armored pistoleers. France, Fusilier. Germany already has the card replaced. Britain getting arquebusier riders, etc. etc. et all.
Also i am of the oppinion that all these cards, be it the asian or european one should automatically make imperial upgrades possible for mercs and bandits.
Alternativly, if you want to actually represent swiss mercenaries and you’d want to make the theather grant access to neutral mercs you’d have to introduce a unit like a Füsilier for guard service / elite lineinfantry and probably a skirmisher equivalent.
Dude, I explained it at the beginning already. Because this may not be technically possible unless removing the Theater card and adding a unique card for each civ, so we try to find a new unit that is suitable for each European civilization.
I don’t think the devs would make the card effect duplicate the politician unless you remove the politician.
It could be as easy as Intervantion (Units from current consulate ally)
It’s a building specifically for recruiting international mercenaries so it’s not that big of a stretch. The card is called Theatres and it enables a mercenary with a connection to theatres which is a fun Easter egg.
I’d prefer if they’d also give the card to the Asians instead of removing it from the Europeans. It would make sense if they had a Teahouse instead of a Monastery.
If you want a more substantial connection to with these cards you could go with other options like Coffee Houses. They were pretty influential centers of culture across Europe and could do the same thing with a European mercenary instead. But I’d still keep the Theatres card for civs with a strong connection to Japan like Portuguese, Dutch, and Spanish.
The most important card that need to be removed. French royal musk. Those musks are like guard musk in age 2. French has all nat cards, and most nats are light infantry or cavs. Now french has musk which is also nat, they don’t even need to make their own musk and they have a full roster of units that are all NAT which all benefit from their crazy cards together! Btw the european nats are very nice with french too so french nat is op
It would be very OP, or it would be very annoying…
Yes, I agree, I would even put the Cannoneer in the Bar…
I was thinking that Advanced Arsenal technologies should only be available if 2 or more Arsenals have been built.
Remove the Advanced Arsenal Card.
Theatre (Dance hall in legacy) unlocks ronin because there weren’t many mercenaries.
And there weren’t Asian civs so they need to give those nations some appearance.
But now it should turn into a semi-mercenary contractor or sth, giving a more fitting merc like the Asian monastery cards do.
I dont know what you mean but the royal musk is the most op musk by far. If you cant win immediately the french player survive, he will be out of control soon as all his units are unbeatable.
You also probably have bias for french since you speak french
Europeans were given access to the ronin because they are the strongest melee unit in the game (not taking into account heroes and units like the Shogun) and Big Huge Games intended for the ronin and hatamotos to be the strongest melee units. because popular culture loves and overvalues katanas and samurais.
no, it’s the one whose memory fails me; The ronin are available from the vanilla version and the Saloon was included in the WC. I had the wrong idea that the ronin were included along with the Japanese in the TAD (Big Huge Games did not work on WC.).
Yeah, Big Huge Games didn’t work on TWC, in 2006 they were doing Rise of Legends…
The devs have already removed a lot of redundant cards before, since the leveling system no longer affect the card accessibility. (For example, The 4 Cuirassier card is removed for France, since the Infinite 4 Cuirassier card is just strictly better.) So I don’t see any issues with removing the Theatre card, and replacing it with Euro-civ-specific versions.
That being said, the Mercenary Contractor is already implemented, and some civs can also train mercenaries via Home City cards or church techs. So this would be a lot more complicated.
Connecting Ronin to Theatre is quite a stretch. It would be like having Manchus trainable from a hypothetical “Porcelain Trade” card.
Agreed. However, I think it would have to be done within the context of a general mercenary overhaul, which could be quite complex (involving changes to Mercenary Contractor, cards/techs making mercenary trainable, the Swedes mercenary bonus, the German Wallenstein Contract, and Asian Imperial mercenaries).
