I wouldnt be subsribed to any pro-ai or anti-ai subreddits. You should make your own decisions rather than join some brainwashing circle where bans are thrown at opposite views. This applies to anything political like weed, guns or piracy.
Humans make lot of disgusting crap as well. Even failing buildings. Difference is that AI can learn from failures then be cloned. They dont age with new generation coming and be clueless again. Humans have limits, but each generation can improve AI until it is better than best artists, chefs, workers or police out there.
I don’t think anyone in power cared about creating an AI that doesn’t need to steal to create art, but I’d still be against it since the intent would still be to not have to pay artists.
I already explained why it’s not all the same, but thank you for proving AIbros have no reading comprehension and are just evil:
Also, bold you to claim I’m spamming when there’s over 60 posts here and less than half are from me. I’m also not the only anti-AI person here.
You can be in a group without having to agree with every statement made by the majority or some individuals. The important thing is to socialize or have a common goal.
I reiterate: Most anti-AI activists don’t criticize its use in science or medicine, but rather the waste of money spent on normalizing it for criminal acts such as stealing intellectual property, plagiarizing articles, brainwashing people, or inducing suicide. I’ll talk about this much more later, with supporting sources.
Here, NO ONE is criticizing the usefulness of AI used in medicine or science.
What is being criticized is the use of AI for evil, its use to make only the wealthy who can afford it richer; the fact that the poor are left without work (your example of replacing artists, laborers, and chefs), and that on top of all that, “ENTIRE ECOSYSTEMS ARE DESTROYED” to feed emotionless robots.
And to call a robot that STEALS images and then produces lackluster copies a “better artist” is a lie. Even worse is that there are people who blatantly steal and proclaim themselves artists. There’s already legislation against it in Japan, and perhaps soon in the rest of the world.
And as for evolution, i can’t consider some desicion of AI as that:
ChatGPT has started suggesting people commit suicide. Is that what you call evolution, learning from mistakes? But of course, for you, these were useful sacrifices for the greater good. What greater good, in your opinion? Inducing global suicide with a 100% success rate? What a progress! (Sarcasm)
Well, stealing other people’s intellectual property by exploiting new technologies, its nothing new. It’s been happening since 1450.
Interestingly, this type of deception has evolved over time, and copyright laws have had to evolve accordingly:
Books
In Books, when the first printing presses appeared in Europe around 1450, some printing press owners deliberately “changed” book titles to avoid paying royalties to the true authors, instead giving them to fictitious authors who didn’t even exist, or who were complicit with the very printing presses that were stealing the money.
This became a crime in the UK, and from 1662 to 1800 most countries began creating laws to regulate it and even impose fines or even torture on those who violated copyright.
Movies
In Movies, something similar happened around 1900: Some companies, in order to avoid paying royalties to the author of the book they were adapting, modified parts of the plot, the names of characters, and even the setting, and some of the ending, to pretend that the material they were adapting was “original,” when it was a blatant copy.
The most shameless film of this type was NOSFERATU, a cheap and blatant copy of “Dracula,” where they changed the name of each character, the lair to Germany, and the ending, but in essence, it was almost identical. My family was shocked when they saw Nosferatu and then an adaptation of Dracula and found that almost everything was the same.
Consequence: There were lawsuits against the film Nosferatu, a lawsuit that was “won” by the author’s family. Almost all copies of Nosferatu were destroyed, and copyright laws were amended. Now it is considered a flagrant any work that copies the entire plot, characters, and script of another work and only partially modifies it to pretend it is something new. Except for cases of “Critique,” “Parody,” or “Academic Analysis (Documentary).”
Video Games
In video games, around 1990, there was the famous VIDEO GAME CRISIS, caused in part by many companies starting to “copy” the code of other companies’ games and sell it as their own. This led to blatant copying and a lack of originality. People stopped playing video games, and the industry was in imminent danger. If it weren’t for the appearance of the first games with “original storylines,” like Final Fantasy, which was also protected by plot copyright laws, what would have become of the industry?
Consequences: Now, video game code must be copyrighted. The plot of a game is copyrighted. Copying the plot, characters, and code, in whole or in part, on a large scale from a video game is a crime.
Digital Images and Art
And now, since 2021, we have the CRISIS OF IMAGES, with AI acting like dishonest printing companies that copy images from real authors, modify them slightly, and then others sell them as their own. It started with plagiarized NFTs, then came art theft by popular servers, including DeviantArt and Pinterest, and now we even have self-proclaimed AI artists.
Consequences: Japan is one of the first countries to start enacting sweeping laws against AI-generated image copying. Good for them; let’s hope other countries follow suit.
What does that have to do with the forum? This is an forum about Age of Mythology Retold. Are you trying to decide what I can or can’t do with AI in my free time? If I want to use AI to generate artistic content about AOMR, Neither you nor anyone else is going to forbid me. I don’t care about the consequences of AI; all those people criticizing it are hypocrites writing their critiques from their AI smartphones. If you don’t like AI, you can go live away from society and play AOMR with rocks.
Its not mine in the meaning i made it but in the meaning i give the task and input to do so. You could have asked first before making conclusions.
But i know there are always ppl who are annoyed when you put your opinion out about a topic and forgot to write and point out its your opinion even that should be most of the time obvious. (not meant to be mean just annoyed)
Correct me if i am wrong but more “serious” types of AI-plattforms use their ressources by countless of arts and create their own over time more and more.
I didn’t want any congratualtions and upvotes for uploading or appreciating the art NOT my me BUT to give a viusal idea and suggestion of a style approach and i hoped THIs would get attention and more support. But some ppl are triggert, traumatised beings blind by anger and frustration about whats moraly right and wrong… what wasn’t my attention and i am really disappointed pushed it in this direction and used it as a plattform to let their frustration, fear and anger about AI flow. @leroy_jenkinsh got what my intensions were: its created by whatever and whoever to contribute to AoM Retold for AoM Retold. I give the AI the task/input to visualise things d for the community and the game and with the intension it will stay there and nowhere else.
Some of the more aggressive ppl here and on reddit just simply could have ASKED me what my intesions are and what i want to suggest but its easier to hate and rant i get that. Cause YES as also @leroy_jenkinsh stated there is objectively good AI art contritbuting to things and bad AI art who try to get profit and try to manipulate etc.
I thought my contribution should be obvious but i was obviously partly wrong and that makes me disappointed.
Several things i have to say to this:
Who says Demeter isnt’ sexy -did you meet her in person?
Who says a woman cannot be “sexy” to a certain extend? Why that?
Gods are often depicted as more perfect beings with characters like Hephaistos being one of some exceptions.
I didn’t even intended to make her very “sexy” just a bit
Myth is fantasy and fantasy - well i shouldn’t need to explain this further (i hope)
A mother cannot be sexy? how outrageous!
Males have sexy bodies too and some are even depicted young and others oddly old like Ares.
That she looks “angry” is cause YOU interpret this into the image i don’t saw any kind of offical post about this.
this would be the first time a god portrait would show a specific reaction to a specific event - why that?
You know i normally agree with the majority of things you post but here i respectfully disagree. Everything can be a contribution as long as the intensions are honest and passionate. The more accessable it is to the masses the higher the risk something bad but also something good can happen. I am not a math guy, but i am sure you get what i mean.
Also i think - as already mentioned by someone else - it enables ppl who lack ressources, talent or time to create something out of their imagination and passion.
I also want to point out here some really good mods for Skyrim. Where AI voices are used cause VA can get expensive and the amount of quality ppl in that business is also limited.
Aswell as indie game devs can try to visualise their dream project without the support, connections and money normally needed (i think someone kinda pointed this out this aswell)
correct me if i’m wrong but there is good and bad AI depending on its experience, the inputs and the experiene and talent behind the codes and such.
Now thats an interesting contribution and information!
as if data centers are the only ressource-burning, potentially enviromental-poluting influences in our modern societies. that doesn’t justify it of course its simply not the only one “big baddie” out there. i think some should bring this into their perspectives.
totally agree with that!!!
yeah i feel like some tried hard to push this thread into a certain direction and a few pro and con of that certain direction are not able for an open a bit more unbiased discussion. so i think yeah it feels like it got a bit off-topic but the negatiev attitude towards AI was a part of my post so its also not really off-topic even tho as mentioned some times already the biggest issues are the biased thoughts of some ppl putting me (and others) into a certain pigeon-hole. “cause when a guy uses an available tool to express himself it doesn’t matter if its good or bad it has to be an “evil” person!”. - at least it kinda feels like it lol.
also true.
which is btw (even being off-topic now) pretty pathetic of Nintendo. I never played PalWorld but i think its a good thing try something new, take and idea and elevate it to another/different level.
Also: its part of human history to copy. ppl should just see that there is good copying and bad copying. (good like elevating a source or try to make a different approach and bad like intentionally hurting a person and their reputation/profits.
Very simple example on what good copying is: Tolkien created elves and orcs, Gamesworkshop (Warhammer) took this and changed it into a something different and Blizzard copied from Warhammer and tried a slightly different approach. - Now there are millions of ppl for every of these three franchises and everyone of them enriches gaming and fantasy.
maybe surprisingly for you but yes, but not where gods and especially Demeter was shown.
When i made a quick search i see statues of an average healthy woman (maybe considered pretty back then? since beauty standards shifted over the centuries)
When i made a quick search about description i don’t find anything which states (“Demeter was not sexy” or “Demeter was hiddeaus” or “Demeter was pretty average to look at” or " she (Demeter) has a worn out appereance")
The things i read are that she mature, matronly appereance which basically means she is a mature woman (which in modern slang could pontentially be a MILF in modest clothes)
Mature - means experienced and not that young anymore - ( didn’t give the AI the input to show a young woman it made her slightly younger by itself (i assuem cause AI is trainted to protrait younger and prettier women cause they are generally nicer to look at.) She also doesn’t look like a 20 year old to me for example i intentionally wrote Persephone in my other thread to be a younger looking woman and AI made her look like a really young woman. Mature could be a 30 year old woman (especially during that time) and she looks like 30/35 to me
Matronly - means - at least for me - more conservative and a chubbier. So that could be actual a valid argument! @Moonshadow7475 but 1. she doesn’t look naughty or skimpy to me. she just shows a bit of skin here so she isn’t that unconservative and being conservative is also a mindset so maybe her mind is pretty conservative who knows? - about the chubbyness: i didn’t wrote make her slim or model-like or whatever i just started my input by writing “take this image as a template and make the following changes…” so the AI “saw” the profile picture and just interpreted her figure. I surely can try to make her chubbier if you and the majority wants to see this!
? Metaphorically speaking: if you have a knife you can use the knife (tool/ AI = tool) to either cook and built something with it or you can kill someone or something.
the world is a gray place there are good and evil things but there are evil things everywhere. (unfortunately) there are also gradations of what good and evil can be. I would say a dictator or murderer is pretty damn evil, a guy who robbs a store can be maybe a bit evil depending on the backround but he comes nothing close to the evilness of said dictator or murderer. If a dictator or murder is on the very low tier on “evilness” than some AI tools are definitely on the more higher end of whatever you want to see (pyramid, ladder etc)
then oppose it! take action and i and some others here might even follow you who knows! I personally just would start elsewhere where i personally think its more important like China and their precious metals,
nuclear waste, co2 emissions and human conditions during risky extractions of sulfur and other inhumane conditions which are the base of our modern, spoiled societies.
but now it gets political and therefore pretty off-topic i would like to avoid this since my initial contributaion was for the community, a GAMING community. and i would like it to stay that way. (and i assume the moderators/devs too)
(btw i will stop responding to you specifically now not cause i have something against you, but cause it feels like there is no point since you are too biased, too emotional and therefore (partly understandable) refuse a more objective point of view. also the risk is too high it gets too off-topic again and again. cheers mate)
I’m tired of point this out, but GenAI is not the same as the script that makes non-player characters in games act. Stop conflating them.
A kitchen knife is also not the same as a combat knife. Hope this helps.
So it seems like the laws are working since people can sue them. So are y’all ok with AI as long as it follows copyright laws? Obviously there seems to be plenty of instances where it isn’t or is pushing the boundaries of copyright. But once that gets sorted then it should be good to use correct?
Reddit is the lowest common denominator of internet discussion. I don’t think going there is a good idea.
I made a post saying an Inuit or Cree civilization would be cool and half the replies thought I was asking for the nation of Canada to be added to the game.
I’ve seen people react to suggestions of Hawaii for AoE3 by acting as if Hawaii didn’t exist until being annexed by the US, and I’m pretty sure that was here in the forums.
I would love Hawaii for AOE3! I even suggested the Maori and Hawaii as a DLC at some point, with the Maori being more like the North American civs and Hawaii being more like the Euro civs.
