People saying that the (Western) Roman Empire doesn’t fit in the AOE2 timeline when they are an enemy faction of both Goths & Huns campaigns?
Visigoth kingdom fell in 711
It’s to much work to read all the post, or even the OP. Just reply to the name of the topic, easy.
As someone that used to play card games, I know that problem…
Like double heal rates for monks, and reduced dependence on a gold heavy army, a bit like that funny civ called Byzantines?
Shouldnt this be the other way around for papacy? They will have plenty of gold and not much of a militia army.
They’ve officially added the civ in the game which they never ever should have. I’d literally rather seen anything else.
looks like thread got defeated by this pre order news. thank god for the roman civ, at least 1 cross playable civ.
Do we know when will we know their bonuses?
I’m sorry to tell you that you are too late.
Romans civ already in game now.
What listening to the fams does to the game. This is like the fifth unnecesary civ added to please tghe fans
Hope also that Bohemians, Poles, Burgundians and Sicilians are going to be the last civs from that region for the next 10 years at least.
We already have Romans so they wont be the last.
Either way 10 years is probably an exageration with the current rate of civs being added. 5 would be more than enough
Wasted civ slot made only for the pop culture normies…
Yep. Either way its done. Hopefully the civ is at least fun unlike Sicilians
For some reason

This thread can be closed now. It’s gone the way of Romulus Augustulus.
Are they fun? Are they unique? Do they have significance to the AoE2 timeline?
If the answer to all three is yes, then they are not a wasted civ slot.
Don’t close it yet. People are still saying stuff.
Tell me a good thing about this DLC
- Romans don’t belong to aoe2, a Medieval game. They don’t even get a campaign
- Price went up by 50%
- No Unique Units/Unique Techs for aoe1
- No unit system rework for aoe1: Heavy Axeman, Light Cavalry, Heavy Camel Rider etc.
Middle Ages literally started with the fall of Rome. I think everyone learns this at school
