I dont want a roman civ in aoe2

Nothing could be more significant to the AoE2 timeline than starting it.

There’s an entire thread about other late Classic/early Postclassic civs which would have made more sense:

Though apparently for some reason people like to add Romans in a game which was explicitly stated to be after its Fall :man_facepalming:

for the info, its more of an AOE1DE fans. as an aoe2 player myself I just wanted more civs/cross playable civs for custom games/lobbies, for modders essentially so any civs would have worked. having AOE1DE graphics directly accessible to AOE2 DE game without needing to add them as part of the mod is a great help.

Rome constitutes more than the western part. But, I’m sure you feel smart with that little snippet.

Yeah, the Eastern part are the Byzantines.

These dlc will probably break records of early purchase

Yes so we don’t need two of them.

Really?

AoE2 isn’t exactly the most clear about including a singular version of a geographic area. This is THE game where you’d include multiple variations based on timeperiods or cultural differences.

@Siegelad4112 why don’t you tell us what they should’ve added with the addition of a DLC embracing their original game?

Seems like you have all the bright ideas since Romans are apparently so wrong.

Ita not just the same geographic area. The early Eastern Roman and West Roman empire were nearly indistinguishable

AoE2 is a game where the Huns, the Malians, the Incas, and the Bohemians can fight each other in Japan. The game stopped making sense a long time ago.

Then let’s add the USA or the Sumerians if the time line doesn’t matter anyway /s.

Lmao.

Not to be rude, but I think you should read up the subject before making that kind of comparison.

No, because those two are firmly not medieval. Even stretching the timeline doesn’t work.

The Goths, Huns, and now the Romans are in the game because they represent the period of time right before Rome fell and the Middle Ages started. Since 1999, that time period has been firmly established to be a valid part of the game.

An overrated pop culture civ that appears in almost every game which is boring at this point, I’d be happy if there was a different focus than the “GLORIOUS ROMAN EMPIRE” shoved in our throats just because it’s marketable or very known to almost everyone.
You want Western Romans? Go play AoE1 or Rome 2 Total War instead of putting it in a game where most civs are middle ages, there’s still lots of options outside of the Romans.

(Yes, I’m aware of Celts, Goths and Huns but just because the original ES devs thought they’re “cooler than Magyars” doesn’t mean that after 23 years Romans are a good choice)

The game is set after the Fall of Rome. It’s written on the original box. I’m not going to buy this DLC to ruin my AOE2 experience with some Legionaries fighting against Organ guns. Starting from 200 CE, the history of Rome is nothing but downfall. That’s way before the Golden Age of the Huns and even they are already controversial.

You do know you’re going to see thousands of people playing Romans the first weeks right?
