Check out this thread?

Adding (Not replacing) Custom Icons

I found the problem. was that the option “including graphics” was not checked [aoe8] checking that option resolved the issue

And this one where i was talking to juggernaut

UNIT ICONS

Awesome. Thanks for replying and your help. I finally figured out the atlas files ‘ingameunits.dds’ need to be edited to add an icon. But it doesn’t seem to want to use the alternative I have in my mod folder structure. Only worked when I edited the base game’s ‘ingameunits.dds’ file. Is there a way to get Aoe2DE to use the mods version?

Hope that gets you started and i am sure there is more experienced users on the forums.
