Byzantines in AOE2 and AOE4 are translated into ‘비잔티움족’, which means ‘Byzantium TRIBE’.
I don’t know why it hasn’t been fixed yet. Literally no one use this kind of term.
If you want to point to the people of the Byzantine Empire, you have to use the expression ‘비잔티움인’ which means ‘People of Byzantium’, or ‘Byzantines’. If you wanted to use the name of the empire, it’s more appropriate to use the ‘비잔티움 제국’ which means ‘Byzantine Empire’ or ‘Empire of Byzantium’.

In the Byzantine civilisation, the heavy horseman called cataphract is translated as “Zırhlı Atlı” in the Turkish translation. Cataphract is a proper name and therefore cannot be translated as armoured horseman. Cataphract should be translated as ‘Katafrakt’. The same mistake was made in Age of Empires 2.

I fixed the Korean translation issues after the game’s release, as well as the localization that rapidly deteriorated after the release of the DLC, the most egregious of which was a badly scripted dialogue in the The Sultans Ascend DLC campaign. I’ve reported it several times, but it doesn’t seem to be getting through to the developers, and they don’t even seem to be aware of the issue, even though it’s been happening for a while. In frustration, I opened the LocaleKorean.sga file and did the localisation myself.
In my heart, I wanted to create and distribute it as a mod rather than making the developers tired, but since I couldn’t create a mod to modify the entire localisation text, I decided to deliver it to the developers with a desperate heart.
I hope you can just forward the attached file to the developer to check if it works and apply it.
Here’s a summary of the localization
- Fixed subtitle errors in the The Sultans Ascend DLC campaign.
- Fixed multiple translations of a single word.
- Fixed mistranslated words and sentences. (Unit names, descriptions, challenges, etc.)
- Fixed different translation styles in the same sentence into one.
- Fixed incorrectly written commands (e.g. #ICON::menu_navigation::controller_menu_1## → ##ICON::menu_navigation::controller_menu_1##)
I couldn’t attach the file directly, so I’ve attached a link to the previous mistranslation check sheet. If you’re not comfortable with that, let me know your email address and I can forward it to you as an attachment.
There’s a download link at the bottom of the sheet.
It is unclear how many percent Defense gives Relic which is in the tower.
In Turkish version of game when we resume the game it should say “{Player} oyunu devam ettirdim.” instead of “{Player} oyunu özetledim.”
“Özetledim” means I summarized so doesn’t make sense.
There’s a space missing in the german translation for the Onna Bugeisha:
