Taking War Elephants away from Persians is just ridiculous, you don’t change 20 year civ just like that.
I’m not totally against Indians getting battle elephants but saying it will not have any balance impact is facetious. It’s just not the same as giving Mongols steppe lancers
My words and ideas are not a personal attack, why do I need to get the majority’s consent?
Is this the Communist forum? Where is freedom of speech?
You may not like or understand other people’s suggestions, but you need to know to respect and tolerate others’ right to express ideas, rather than asking others not to make arguments that you do not accept.
This is my “Exalted Edition” mod for Aoe2 DE
https://www.ageofempires.com/mods/details/14733/
I have introduced 5 empires for Indians (5 civs in 1 civ - Mughals, Rajputs, Odias/Gajapatis, Kannadigas, Tamils/Cholas) with several unique units and each with own unique techs and team bonuses.
Rajput Cavalry, Varu (Melee Royal War Elephant) and added specs based on each empire/civilization of Indian Subcontinent.
I think both Rajput cavalry and Varu can be applied to the default Indians of Aoe2 DE (as that is Mughal-Rajput based) for sure to make them historically accurate.
Also, if you want to simply buff Elephant archers - allow them to garrison foot archers (like Towers) and make them fire multiple arrows (not like Chu Ko Nu and Kipchaks where additional arrows do less damage) .
Also, making them move faster is correct (as elephants can outrun humans).
Also, give both melee/ranged attack to it so it can be toggled to attack in melee or ranged.
The rise of nations Mahout unit does ranged attack on distance and melee attack on close (and it always come close to target does not stand and fire).
Ideally, game should support - multiplayer version (balanced techs for tournaments) and historic edition (where history should be right - for single player or custom mode).
Never one nation or empire is equal to another in history. They always has some plus and some minus and some always overpowered few others in certain aspects (like gunpowder, elephants, heavy cavalry, resources, techs etc). This is what that makes playing special (but not in tournaments though) just for fun or competition - fighting against the odds and winning against opposing empire. Even the same empire is weak or strong in different parts of history (due to weak or strong leaders) and the same goes to novice or pro players.
You never can’t make a balanced game . It is only theory - all the devs or pros do is like a childhood moral story where “a monkey judges 2 cats to provide equal slice of broken bread” if the statistical data of pro players show one civ is overpowering or growing faster, it will nerf it and keep on doing the same.
Sometimes I feel like delete all my mods out of frustration and stop playing and delete my game copy.
I’m just saying in order for devs to implement it, you need to have most of the community on your side.
At least check a thread about giving Imperial Camels to Scaraces, see the votes and then come back at me
I’m simply saying that changing the UU will usually not make a lot happy.
Who said you can’t make suggestions?
At least have the capacity to be criticized when making a suggestion.
Are you suggesting that a civ should be stronger than the other?
But you can get close to that state.
no civ in AOE2 is broken/OP atm
But we do have underpowered ones
Again. Had you seen I was “asking” or “in order for devs to implement”?
At least for me, it will not make me unhappy. So I just stated that view and never ask all people should like it with me.
Asking others not to make arguments that you do not accept is not the reasonable criticism.
Which part of my argument is unreasonable?
When one makes a suggestion, they usually think about it happening. So…
But if you say so.
I have nothing against that.
I think that’s what the campaigns do when you’re Portuguese and you’re stuck in a corner of an Indian city full of both melee and ranged elephants, or you’re Vietnamese and your peasants have to fight huge Ming armies.
Lets go back to the main topic. I see two problems with imperial camels.
- Their team bonus giving camel attack bonus vs building doesn’t work with most other civs. At the latest patch, out of 35 civs, only 10 other civs have ‘heavy camel rider’ in their tech tree. Take out byzantine, Ethiopian, and mongols which lacks blood line or final armor upgrade or both, the bonus doesn’t work for them anymore as their camels won’t last as long under defensive arrows. So, this bonus can realistically benefits only 7 out of 35 civs (only 20%). Team bonus should be something that can benefit majority of the civs.
- Many other players are complaining Elephants archers are very situational and are not as useful in reality and that indian should have battle elephants for historical accuracy.
For these reasons, I would like to propose the following change.
- Give battle elephants to indian, remove camel +1P armor bonus and make fishing bonus as team bonus. This way, instead of camels raiding the towns, Indian get elephants which are designed to resist archer fire and take down buildings. They can still have imperial camels but they are now reduced to just cavalry counter and no longer OP as heavy cavalry, raiders + building attack. On top of that, they get a team bonus that works for all civ (but only on maps that has shore fish).
- To differentiate from other Rise of Raja civs, make elephant units attack 33% faster for Indian. In this way, elephants archers will get a buff simultaneously.
- To balance their elephant advantage, remove Hussars from tech tree. They already have 3 eco bonus, 1. fishing bonus, 2. villagers discount, 3. gold production +10% and 2 other trash units in herbaldiers and skirmishers. This way, not only they will be losing a late game trash unit, their faster attacking elephants will become more susceptible to monks overall. Not only that, they will no longer be able to use their potent hussar + cavalry archer combo and thus will encourage more towards elephant + elephant archer + handcannoner combo instead.
If further balance is needed, we can always change the price of unique techs and price of elephant archer.
