Info and Screenshoots from Freyr God Packs

Oh neat, things come full circle (kind of) way back then Reginleif got her own pre-order exclusive scenario for AOM (Playable in EE now) it wasn’t anything major but still a little something. Now, she gets a mission in a pre-order exclusive pack once again, neat. Also cool to see it tie in to the FotT campaign another reason for a new cast I suppose.

But that also means that none of the release Single Player content of AoMR is actually completely new content.
Everything is just something we had before, just improved.

I don’t mind not getting something entirely new but that also means that the developers have not proven yet that they can make new unique AoM Single Player content from scratch. We just gotta hope they know what they do when they release the 2 new DLC.
AoE2 campaigns are just so different to AoM. The Vanilla AoE3 campaigns are kinda similar (just that it didn’t fit the historic setting all that well) but all we got since the release of the Definitive Edition was based on historic events similar to all the AoE2DE content.

Also curious if and how they will continue or build upon the Fall of the Trident Story.
Always hard to follow up on a story of someone saving the world.

Eh simply saving the world again. Just saw a series where this happened. Dude saved the world next season: dude saves it again just under different circumstances

Guess what kinda type of series I stopped liking when I was like 12.
There is a reason why I don’t watch any MCU movies.

I hope it’s not gonna be a thing where you defeat Kronos in every single Campaign from now on.

My guess is that they’ll take the giants coming back plot point,(Ragnarok coming) and show it from Regenleif’s perspective. One of the Hersirs with Arkantos when she meets him mentions how she was the one who sent the norsemen to track Gargarensis in the first place.

This means she had first hand experience with him prior to Arkantos’s arrival, which lends itself well to a scenario where Regenlief is the protagonist. (I would have much rather taken a few scenarios but it is what it is there is a lot of things that happened there that only gets told to the player in cutscenes, like how Loki smashed Thors hammer for example).

As for the narrative quality of these scenarios we’ll have to see I doubt it will be too jarring though.

This does make me excited, even if I had hoped to see a few other gods, powers, and units. I look forward to all the details (so I can see how wrong my predictions for Freyr’s bonuses were). And I guess there’s still a chance of a 5th Norse god someday

Aegir was very unexpected for me, since he feels pretty similar to Njord. Both are presented as gods of the sea and storms, and both have a giant that crushes buildings as myth unit.
Among the vanilla heroic age gods, Njord was my preferred pick for Freyr (Njord’s son), but I doubt that will happen now since they’d feel so similar. So I guess it will be Bragi due to the Battle Boars (which were based on Gullinbursti).

Wow! Fafnir looks fantastic! Definitely would like to see more dragons in Age of Mythology — very cool.

Also, what do you think could be this new building on this screenshot?

Could this be Ullr’s god power?

Could it be Freyr’s wonder?

Yeah you may be right. It looks more like a wonder than a defensive structure.

That or just an aesthetic/objective scenario only building. It doesnt seem unique enough to me for a wonder idk

I already have a bad feeling that he’s going to be more OP than Kronos.

Big and powerful myth units cost a lot of favor, and that’s difficult to get consistently for the Norse, unless they have a lot of hersirs, in which case, they don’t have a lot of pop for myth units.
So there’s not going to be mass Fafnirs.

Hel Yeah!!!

Those are pictures from Age Of Mythology: Retold - Legacy Deity Portraits that I have seen on xbox site

I wondered how they would fit the new gods into the UI but now we know.

The UI is not laid out in a way that makes 4 gods look good so I assume they don’t plan to just give everyone 4 now.
Some pantheons might get more while some might stick to 3.

I also wonder if they have some gods be minor and major gods at the same time. There is nothing that would really be against that just that they would have different sets of traits in those different roles.

Do we know who the new minor gods are being paired up with from the existing rooster?
For example, will we be able to pick between Vidar and Tyr or Vidar and Balder? It’s probably not gonna be Vidar and Hel.

I don’t think new minor gods being new major god exclusive is a good idea.
Hera exclusive to Zeus and Hel exclusive to Loki make some sense, but not the rest.

Like when AOE3 added new natives but only available to new civs but not to the old civs that they are directly related to.
However AOE3 could fix it by adding and changing cards (like they already did). How would AOM incorporate new minor gods?

I wonder if some of the minor gods from the god pack could be used interchangeably with any minor god from the first three major gods.

like freya > url

or freyr would have 3 unique ones

I can absolutely subscribe to the idea that Vidar be made available to Loki instead of Tyr. With the other two minor gods being incorporated somewhere into the existing rooster with Thor and Odin would be the logical consequence.
There’s a problem with that, however.
The Freyr Gods Pack is a DLC. Meaning there will be people who don’t have the DLC, but only the base game.
The DLC gods will only be available if the DLC is owned. Otherwise, why buy the DLC?

If DLC minor gods are introduced to base game roosters, there would be a difference between Thor with DLC and Thor without DLC. And they would be able to face one another in multiplayer. And what if someone favors no-DLC #### ######## but also wants to play with Freyr?
