Ingame tech tree

One of the quality of life improvements in aoe2 was the addition of an ingame tech tree allowing you to easily view which civs had access to certain units or technologies. I never played aoe1 seriously enough to know which civs were good at what. I also remember some really odd interactions like requiring the final stone mining upgrade to unlock the upgrade to heavy catapult, if someone can confirm.

That would certainly be a good addition to make the game more beginner-friendly.

Yes. This is very much needed. Not just to make it easier for new players but also to make them interested in the various intricacies of the game balance, thus increasing their likelihood to adopt the game as a go to mp experience

Good one.

I would say this is good idea

I agree with this, an in game Tech Tree would be a welcome Quality-of-Life improvment.

i think it’s a very good idea to bring new people to this game

That would greatly help beginners!

Wow i think i’m the only one against this… as someone new to the game I always found it exciting to find out which civilizations were specialized at what. It made learning about them more fascinating. I noticed Minoa has cheaper boats, and I pondered why. Then I researched them and found out that they were an island nation which specialized in trade within the Mediterranean sea. And if i really wanted to learn everything, there were (are) still plenty of guides online to turn to.

I think adding an in-game tech tree would destroy that 1997 feel of exploring a “new” game. If you’re a beginner anyway, you want to try and learn more about basic game play. As you grow on to this game, then you want to learn what civs are good at what. And that’s when you can do your research.

It’s not only tech tree that is missing. Also all the hidden bonuses and different units damage multipliers would be nice to see.
how huge is the bonus for camels when hitting mounted unit and all the others.

yup, def need the tree in game.

Sure, I loved how it was possible in AoE3 to read all the advanced values directly on the UI, if it’s possible to develop it inside the DE it will be great I think.

I find this a great idea. Especially in the beginning.

Yes, this is a must! An encyclopedia like AoK’s would be awesome too, I can’t remember if RoR had that.

I tried looking in the RoR game and no encyclopedia nor tech tree are available in the original game, only in the booklet. It was an improvement from AoK.

I imagine that since they’ll be making enough changes to completely invalidate the old booklets, and most of us have probably misplaced or lost them by now, they’ll have to provide documentation. It definitely needs to be in-game. I’d also like a wiki page of sorts listing prereq technologies, weak against, strong against, etc.

I think you are mostly right but about the booklets I have found them as PDF files on the net fairly easily. I hope I don’t infringe any rule posting this (in any case I can edit it out) but here’s the link: http://replacementdocs.com/download.php?60.list.2.20.download_name.ASC

LoL, after 20 years I think I have memorised nearby all techs and units available for each civ… but a tech tree would be great, and quite necessary for new players.

I played too many games in 20 years, it’s impossible for me to remember everything.

Me too, but I think AoE is one of the very few videogames I have dedicated the most hours in a lot of years (like Civilization II, for example), so is one of that few exceptions.
