I would like to be able to select the biome of a map (climate, vegetation and animals) when playing a single player skirmish.
This is a very good suggestion, improvements are indeed essential here.
The current Skirmish maps do not really appeal to me to play because among things like this are missing
I remember making this thread where I suggested that a new siege unit called the [Staff Slinger] could be trained from the Siege Workshop and be available for every civilisation in the game.
The idea of this staff slinger unit is that it will function as an early short ranged siege unit that will be available in the feudal age.
If it would be difficult to make it so that the Siege Workshop can be built during the feudal age, where the other siege units canāt be trained from it until reaching the castle age and beyond, the staff slinger could alternatively be trained from the Archery Range.
Edit: A user by the name of @Leshanni suggested in a post that the battering ram could be available during the feudal age, therefore both the battering ram and the staff slinger could together serve as early siege units.
Here is an image of what the staff sling looks like:
Age of Mythology has rotating buildings, but iām not sure if its possible in AoE2 since AoM has a very different engine.
Okay that is good to know about Age of Mythology building facts.
Age of Empires Online: Project Celeste also has rotating buildings to place them for construction. From there I also took the inspiration, that it could be good for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition.
But AoM and AoEO are 3D games, thatās why itās easier to make buildings that rotate with each otherā¦ AoE 2 is a 2.5D gameā¦
Yes, it is certainly easier to create with a 3D graphic.
Yes but I still hope, that it is also possible for a 2D graphic game like Age of Empires 2. We would all have more fun with it.
A further wish is to see an expansion which is positive for the defenders of battles and fights, since actively infantry and cavalry units have so far in the game the fast opportunity to destroy walls and buildings in larger formations. With walkable walls of units, such attack storms could be countered more. I think placing units makes sense for both kind of walls namely wooden palisades and stone walls.
The Town centers, Towers and Castles are already shooting automated arrows at attacking units in order to better deal with this issue, that is of course clear to me. Nevertheless, I think that the attacking side still clearly has better trump cards in the game than the defender.
This possibility exists already in Age of Empires 4, but we can also use it here.
What do you think about that?
I would love this for AoE2 too!
Below is a group of seven different āKingsā from several civs of Age of Empires 2. Credits goes to the Fandom wiki of the game.
The Kings are unfortunately also unplayable in the game, I would like to give them a playable functionā¦ Do you know, that these even exist? I think, not all players were aware of this until now.
I wish you a good Christmas and feel a bit like a King at least once a yearā¦
There need to be Indian kings, and another model for Eastern European, Southern European and Northern European kings and the Queen who has no variationsā¦
They are playable in the Regicide mode.
But did you know that we also have 5 different Merchants ?
We need nomadic civ merchants, Southeast Asian, Indian and Eastern European merchants too.
That is good to know. I would like to have the Kings also in all other modes, if it were possible, but they would have to be able to perform a functionā¦ The Middle Ages were the most important age for Kings, so they shall be use better here in the game.
So far I only saw a Merchant version in the editorā¦ but thank you for the notice
In the Fandon wiki there is a graphical view that it gives 5 different Merchant types. Below you see the graphic for this.
Of course, I would also like to give the Merchant a gaming function like the King. I think in connection with this to the āMarketā, to the āCaravaneraiā and the up to now not buildable āTrade workshopā.
Below you see the 2 graphics from the Fandom wiki for the Trade workshop of all Definitive Edition civ versions.
I played the fantastic Rome at War mod, where there was a Han civ that could make the merchant, and he had an effect like a smaller version of the Georgians Fortified Churches. Giving a small increased workrate to nearby vills.
Was REALLY on-theme. As his pose made him look like an official watching over the workers.
Let the Kings make nearby Villagers work faster, and let the Merchants generate gold like a human relics.
Iād suggested that the Silk Road should be renamed and give the player and each ally a merchant, so that it would at least make the tech beneficial for 1v1 game, and people could see the Merchants in diffirent regional skin.
The Aventureiro and Espingardeiro sound like good contenders for an unique Portuguese unit that could replace the Organ Gun for them.
Maybe the Chinese could get an unique unit armed with a fire lance.
