Italians in AoE 4 might be like

Like Knights templar, Italians would be a good fit for selective aging up.

It’s because, as you know, they were separate city-states, like Milan, Florence and Genoa.

There were many sovereign cities, some of which I’ve never even heard of.

So, I’d like to suggest an aging-up system with the selection of city-states.

I hope thou share your opinions.

Well, I do not want Italians much, but the Aztecs, Spanish or Vietnamese.

Sorry. I don’t think it’s good.

The Knights Templar is a variant, so you won’t see them again. That’s why they did it this way.

Now, Italy will be a unique civilization, and it will have its own variants.
So, that means Italy would come back a few times to create variants.
I’d like to see some variants for Italy, like Genoa, Venice, Florence and Milan.

In my case, I’m worried about the variants that come later.

So your idea would destroy much of the “surprise” that variants could bring with new and unique units.

*Note: I’m more worried about the variants than anything else. That’s all I think about… Rsrsrs
Anyway, I’m expecting Italy at some point.

It’s one of the better ways to represent Italy in this era.

Rule over the region was split between several city-states, and they all have a unique focus on trade, political power, and military strategy.

Selecting between them as age-ups, similar to Knights Templar Commandarie, would be ideal.

Could even feature a choice-synergy in Imperial to represent the Renaissance.

There was a concept on Reddit that addressed it that way, and I think it’s very nice:

This way, several city-states could be represented, without prioritizing one in particular.

Of course, it also leaves room for future Italian Variants that have more landmarks from that specific civ.

I’d generally have you choose just one Landmark and then just embassies, or I’d make my own set with more general Landmarks:

  • Genoa: Lighthouse
  • Venetia: Arsenal
  • Florence: University of Arts
  • Milan: Gramsci Armory
  • Naples: Neapolitan Fort

And so on. I actually had an artistic fit, so I’m going to think about my version for a cool Italian civic.

I actually have made long ago a own concept for Genoa Civ, though it’s a bit outdated with the current game changes, but hey, everything can be improved.

Take care.

Perhaps it would make sense to use the variant system for some factions, the first that come to mind:

  • Venice (Byzantine Empire variant)
  • Genoa (Holy Roman Empire variant)

And perhaps one like a true civilization, the Kingdom of Sicily, with a dynastic system, or at least exploit the fact that the Kingdom was ruled by dynasties of different origins:

  • Altavilla (Normans)
  • Angevins (French)
  • Aragonese Dynasties

I believe they would be variants of Italy, due to the era they will be portrayed in.

We still hope that the Italians will appear in the game as a unique civilization.

Honestly, I’d like to see Venice and Genoa in the future… I hope I’m lucky enough to do that.

Here are some other civilization suggestions, which also include the Italians… They could be completely unique civilizations, or maybe even become a variant.

The Republic of Genoa : ( @GoldenArmorX I found you. Rsrsrs )
