Italy broken again now with cannons



Papal version have the twice lower rate, but cost similar 8 pop. And fire damage 1 time per 60 sec not compensating it.

It may be worth pointing out that Italy is currently one of the least played civs in supremacy with one of, if not the lowest winrate across all levels

Any chance this could be just a UI issue?

One day I took the infinity papal cannons onto the shipping deck. I played and realized that this shit is worse than falconet. And I never ordered them again.

Tbh this would be a bug, rather than intentional balance.

papal bombards (I prefer blingbard) are a solution in search of an answer. they are amazing, cornercase op, in mass and during culv wars making italys already higher dps culvs murder other civs stuff. Deflection is now nerfed as before they could work with any units now its just artillery. Also lots of hp to tank said damage.

The problem is with only 1 factory and mid to low long term eco scaling, the scenarios where mass culv wars or mass bombards tanking like hell are almost never going to happen. your eco just isnt set up to drain or pump units and while winning culv wars is great, the high pop cost plus culvs leaves you very commited to this play leaving less pop for army. So outside of the 3x blingbard plus 2x shipments back to back, there is just not much tempo for blingbards and you are better off setting factory to res. It probably needs a buff, or you know we could make italian eco late late game better (tricky balance tbh) so blingbard has a value

Papal bombard would be fine if it had an higher AOE to differentiate it away from the lil one which anyways is stupidly fast firing for what it is.

I remember I had a post for Haud and same the least played and low winrate, people still said Haud is strong, even said their cav is strong while state is almost the weakest compared to other cav.

Another issue, Italy always remains low winrate and pickrate in the game, btw there was still one patch before they were OP, finally needed Revnak to play it with 90% win in high rank to prove it was OP…

Therefore in fact the winrate is not that really referable.

That is some fully upgraded and carded stats comparisons I made sometime in the past regarding the Big Cannons not sure if any stats have changed since then.

Papal Bombards have the Holy Fire (charged) shot after sending Papal Arsenal card and always have the Deflection ability which Absorb 25% of the damage inflicted to nearby allied artillery units within 12 range. That are some of the differences that Papal Bombards have with Li’l Bombards outside of stats and how you can acquire them.

If Papal Bombards could fire as fast as Li’l Bombards that would make them crazy good.

Li’l bombard dmg/min = 8100
Papal bombard dmg/min = 5959
Its not cost 8 population.
Heavy cannon dmg/min = 3000 x 3vs Infantry = 9000 (7 pop cost)

Bombard is just more population cost mortar. Now its crazy shit so.

At least everything is fine here. Papal lancer cheaper by 100 resources and 1 pop.

I made a mod to try the Papal Bombard with a ROF of 4.0, like the Lil’ Bombard. I found it a great addition to the Italian army, without it being a OP unit. It is strong, yes, but I think that has a place in the Italian army.

We should remember that Papal Bombard has an Imperial upgrade on top of Imperial Mercenaries.

lil bombards and papal bombards should also move at the same speed as great bombards.

Yeah, Papal bombards are the worst heavy artillery of the game by far. They are slow, high in cost pop, and low damage.

The problem is the same, but even more serious in a treaty where Italy is the worst civilization by consensus.

However, in artillery wars the papal bombard is insurmountable; its suicidal ability and speed make it easily destroyed.

But with the training system for papal units, it makes them very difficult to acquire, for example, I have never seen a papal Zouave used in a game.

To all this, we must add that the civ suffers from having weaker musketeers and skirmishers than those of other civilizations. In addition to having a fairly mediocre economy.

Interesting, i was pretty sure the basic attack rate was 5 at some point. But i haven’t used nor seen that unit since the PUP they were introduced.
