Great idea, the golden age is a powerfull mechanic, but tier 2 is really hard to get and tier 3 is impossible in 1v1 matches.10,20,30-40 is the way i think
its somewhat similarly too hard to cash into as chinese dynasties, with dynasties having the “benefit” of never paying off, except ig song.
Well with FL worthless the yuan is a questionable choice, and ming… Well if your opponent lest you go to ming dynasty its thei fault for being bad Song is nice, thou in many games, especially vs HRE i did not get it, rush + fast castle did the trick there.
while we’re on chinese, this is first time in age game for me cannons don’t do area damage
Yeah well… it would be broken as hell with chinese IO supervision (thanks for the nerf relic -_-) and clocktower…
true, but can we agree bombard in particular could cost 6 pop instead of 3, and siege in general should take like 3-5 seconds to pack/unpack
to balance aoe damage for bombard
Its really hard to balance the siege right. Maybe siege should be more pop and resource costly but wreck ■■■■ up left and right
also another big one, how bout make it less like a tank and more vulnerable to melee in general (kind of how 15 muskets in melee, or ranged as well in this case can still win against a falconet in AoE3 if you pay attention), as for resource cost, rn thats the only thing about siege i don’t have a problem with, what i will take a problem with is bombard firing rate vs trebuchet, its so far apart its straight up ■■■■■■■■
just wait for spring update , all of the civs are recieving a buff
Which is funny, because all I heard on here before launch was that Age IV wouldn’t be popular. And thus would be a failure
That said, that’s nothing to do with BlakeRevnant. They can prefer whatever game they want. Gonna miss you being around here Blake.
I didn’t see that. I saw a mixed bag of excitement and concerns of many things still missing from the game months later. People were pretty hyped about AoEIV before release. As the shiny new toy wore off it’s shine people became more critical. For a newbie RTS player I think AoEIV is fine game to start out with, and fortunately many did.
No one wanted to AoEIV to fail, and if they did then weren’t real AoE fans to begin with.
If AoEIV had treaty mode you could wall up like that too.
Strike 2.
I have only put 2 images and they are offended by themselves
I just read this entire thread and not seeing why anyone doesn’t like the game? At least nothing that I consider a user preference… like graphics or physics engines?
Your pictures are pretty irrelevant here. (If you mean the pictures with walls and AoE3 player numbers)
AoE4 also has stupidities… Like remember siegefest? Racecar siege?
And some AoE4 games with wonder victories have disgusting walls like these too.
Just let people dislike AoE4 if they dislike AoE4. There is nothing but silliness in trying to undermine what they like (in this case AoE3) as a response.
You can be with your AoE4 valentine, no ones got a problem with that.
You’d have to read quite a lot of threads here to get a well-rounded picture of why some players have opened threads like this one.
I’ve already made a kabillion comments/posts about specifics, but basically I feel like the devs are moving too slow, doing too little too late, I can’t stand the toxic meta of siege spam this or wonder victory that, 15 mins is too short for wonder, 10 mins too short for sacred, the graphics are terrible, the bombards act like tanks although in history bombards were immobile artillery emplacements, arrows do zero damage to siege when in reality archers were the bane of siege crew, all units feel the same even when they’re supposed to be “asymmetrical”, different civs have different levels of development and completion, for example the Chinese get an intricate dynasty system with like 4 unique units and 8 landmarks while Abbasid get a crappy golden age system and two landmarks the entire game. That’s just one example I can give more. The graphics in my opinion are terrible, this is personal preference for sure but I hate cartoon style graphics for age of empires, they’ve always gone for photorealism in the past why did they change it now?
No treaty mode, no anything other than landmark sniping mode, very minimal amount of maps with very minimal effort put into them, compare aoe3 maps to aoe4 maps I dare you.
How about no advanced formations? No patrol/guard/follow commands, all very basic things for the RTS genre, not even age specific!
Like this is the most blatant " oh let’s just remake aoe2 with new age graphics so we can make a quick buck bc we know there’s still a dedicated fan base to this game" Ive ever seen, I am beyond insulted by everyone who had any hand with the conceptual design and gameplay design and graphics design of this atrocity of the age series.
What makes it even worse is that it had potential, the foundation is there for a great game, but that’s all this is, a foundation. Imagine hiring someone to build you a house but they come back to you and tell you it’s ready to move in to but then you show up to move your things in and it’s just a big slab of concrete with pipes sticking out if it, that’s what I feel like happened to me with this game.
Beyond frustrating, and the slow movement and lack of urgency to fix these serious underlying issues makes me loose confidence in th devs every passing hour
God , I wish this game was a remake of aoe2 on a 3d engine… In my vision the problem with the game is that they used mechanics of age of empires games as a ceiling, while it should have been used as a floor…
Whether @BlakeRevnant or @HasanIchess wins in a 1v1 is similarly irrelevant to the current state of the game, which is concerning for the longevity of AoE4 and Age series in general.
That being said, I would really enjoy watching a grudge match to settle AoE4 forum disputes. Trash-talking encouraged, but only with the overzealous chat censor. We can get someone like @AussieDrongoBBQ to cast this while explaining to viewers what you’re arguing about. Please let me know if/when this happens.
