It’s been…an experience talking learning how far some will push themselves to force this unit into a comp, but its also time to move on to more complex things: how it holds up vs other UU’s in a vacuum.

hand gunners are also weak, janissary are proportionally balanced, devs have never buffed ranged units as they are effective micreating and behind the lines

having more options of units in castle age is already an advantage

this video is misleading people in this video demuslim has 3 times bigger army his oppenent throwed his army too early even with the advantage of numbers demuslim lost his horseman backed by janissaries to man at arms at the end battle aussie drongo has the same battles video it shows the army value too in this video he didnt switch to panel shows that the thing i say actually very acceptable just move the imperial janissary gun tech to castle then they will worth their money and if we look to streltsy another unique unit those janissary needs to better than hand canons resource wise but im ok if they just move the tech to castle age

I only put it to show that they are useful behind the lines, any ranged unit that is very strong will be nerfed by the developers, that happened with the camel archers so don’t waste your time

I already post you what DemusliM stated about jans in this forum. Also there are other people casting videos about how jans are terrible.
But i dont care anymore. I was just hyped atm for Ottomans. I will keep going with Mongols and wait for Magyars in aoe4. Ottomans will bo joke in this game it seems. But the devs are keep buffing ottos for some reason.
Probably before release Ottos can be decent. Probably with some vizier point they will make Jans to be reliant unit. But like i said i dont care anymore. But if they release ottos like this i dont think they would reach %40 win rate in most optimistic case either.

so streltsy will get a nerf are you sure? and you did a good math yesterday janissary is close to hand canon resource wise but this works for only imperial janissary castle age one is so behind the line they need something to keep them in the game you will not going to have 3 times more armies every game

what is your hypothesis they are usefull behind the lines is this your hypothesis there is a three times bigger army attacking to enemy and couple janissary attacking from behind and they won now they are fine are you trying to say that ten of them shot the man at arm and it didnt died

what word im exactly saying this which part is colliding with my previously said if streltsy is a unique unit so does janissary what is wrong with it i dont get,castle age one is weak need a attack boost imperial age one is fine if we compare it to the hand canon but if we look it as unique unit like streltsy they need to be better

which one is strong for example i dont understand what are you trying to achive we are talking about janissary here and things i say dont make them op your word goes to streltsy i guess since they cost lower

A lil off topic but still Janissary related. Thid is the first unit that takes amplified damage as a result of a personal debuff?? The closest thing to this is the camel aura that debuff all cavalry inside the aura. Uet that interaction is straightforward: if your cav is inside the camel aura you lose 20% of your base attack, so if you hit anything you’ll do 80% of base attack (+bonus dmg if applicable) minus armor.

What I want to know is when does the Jan amplified dmg take effect? Before armor or after armor? It matters a lot!!! If amplification happens before factoring in armor then the formula us similar to what we see with the camel aura. BUT if armor kicks in first? This would mean getting range armor upgrades will be extremely extremely impactful.

Examples
1st (amplification then armor negation)

12 xbow range dmg times 1.5 minus 2 castle range armor = 16 dmg. Armor reduces the dmg by 1/9 th.
2nd ( [base dmg minus armor] then amplified)
12 xbow range dmg minis 2 castle range armor, then that result times 1.5 = 15 dmg. Armor reduced dmg by 1/6 th!!!

While i was thinking of how bad and sad jannis are i came up with an interesting idea.

  1. List item
  • %50 ranged dmg taken thing should be urgently removed. Also repairing ability is removed from regular one’s too.
    +Jannisars will be removed from archery range. And will only be created by 3rd age landmark along side with free mangonels(switchable). With 28 sec creation time.(millitary schools won’t be able to create Jannis )
    +But with vizier point that will be replaced by jannisary companies then ottos will be able to create them at archery range as well as military schools with 140g 120f (more then standart HC) cost. Best name for this vizier point would be (achami oghlans)
    +Jannisaries +3 attack upgrade thing will be replaced with anti-cavalry tactics which will give jans +10/+20 attack bonus vs heavy cavarlies only.So they can still be countered like hand cannoneers. (Upgrade cost will be 500f 450g)

    HP : 105
    Melee Armor:2 Ranged armor : 0
    Range: 4

    With this REWORK most of problems would be solved…These things will be way more historically appropriate because Jans were so few at their first usage in ottoman empire because they were captured people who have been trained by Turco families. But after achemi oghlan schools Anatolian Turcos were enabled to access that schools too. So with that vizier tech you will be able to mass them to battle ground in late game with extra cost. Also with quite high stats they are now more expensive and have different way to be massed in game.They will be more all rounded but more specific on cavalry countering. At 3rd age otto players won’t be able to abuse gameplan with jans but they will be able to bring few elite soldiers if they choose that landmark…If this is followed by devs i bet playing with or against OTTOS will be super exciting.
    I believe this will bring Ottos way more appropriate and historically backgrounded exciting REWORK.
    Please read it carefully and tell me about your ideas (without abusing)

The manual artilleryman is also bad and sad, why does he have this obsession with the Janissary.

I see that he is an aoe2 player who has proposed the same thing in that game; In aoe4 ranged units were never buffed, it happened with the Abbasid rework, camels were nerfed because players were spamming them, so don’t waste your time. Ranged units have the micro advantage, don’t detract from game balance with buffs to these units and personal quirks.
