Man, believe they will make the Japans as England; most cared civ. Devs will give Japans all non historical units. Devs will make Japans landmarks wonderful. Yeah After all, japans conquered all of the world.

so they need a cav like mali sofas (stat wise) also shields should removed from all units maybe all the units with shield should become a unique unit for japanese with losing their shields

I am satisfied with the fact that the samurai are not represented as the fastest swordsmen (AoE 2) or as the strongest melee unit (the hatamoto of AoE 3). It is difficult not to represent samurai as more skilled warriors than their counterparts from other cultures.

The Japanese have all kinds of cavalry were the Rus, Mongols, Chinese, Ottomans etc. lack.
Really disappointing to see these old civs lacking cavalry units and the Japanese get all the love and fictional units to make them stand out.

I swear if they won’t add cavalry or non-cavalry units to old civs I will be disappointed.
The Japanese being more supreme with its cavalry than the Mongols is just a joke to history.

• It happened in Aoe3, both for the Warchief and for the Asian Dynasties, and recently the Definitive Edition, when they released the new Civs from the DLC, so that the Original Civ didn’t run out of unique cards (since the new civs had a lot of personality and unique cards), they began to have more unique cards and new common units or mercenaries on cards. Recently they even reworked the Russian units, and it turned out quite nice.

Yes, I think that eventually they will give more cavalry units to the other civs like the Rus and the Mongols…

The Japanese did infact use round shield. While it wasn’t commonplace.
The Ryukyu kingdoms also known as Okinawa (Which got integrated with the greater Japanese empire in 1591), shields were far more common and they would often use.

The japanese would use either square shields of metal such as this one

The Jingasa a japanese hat/helmet was commonly used as a shield against ranged weaponry usually when they lost their spear against the enemie

There were also usage of rattan shields documented.

aswell as smaller round shields made of metal and even Turtle shells, which were more common in the okinawan isles. Called Timbe Rochin, and is still practiced today in Okiniwan Martial arts.

So yeah, i wouldn’t take as far and say Japanese didn’t use round shields. When there is evidence that they did. Might not have been commonplace.
