July Pup Notes

It’s kinda bizarre that they chose Virgulino Ferreira da Silva aka Lampião as a skin for the Portuguese explorer, when the man was born in post-independence Brazil and never set foot in Portugal. Even if the developers want more “unorthodox” choices for skins, why not actual Portuguese historical or folk characters like Zé do Telhado, Luís de Camões, Bandarra or Maria da Fonte? A Cangaceiro makes perfect sense for a Brazilian skin, for a Portuguese one, not so much…

I’m afraid this pretty much means no Brazil, unless they find a way to transfer that skin over post-release.

First of all I’d like to say a big thanks to the devs for making this update, but there are a couple things I’d like to add/change:

GG needed a nerf but just making them 3 pop is a bit too much without any others changes. I suggest maybe increasing their hp to reflect their increased pop cost (but not by much).

Are Line Grenadiers going to be be reskinned too or is it just a name change? Will the grenadier’s upgrade cards also be moved to the barracks?

This tech is soo close to being perfect; just make highlanders trainable in forts/taverns and we’ll all be appeased.

Alternatively highlanders could become like a Nizam Fusilier type unit which can be trained in the barracks and has a charged ability (the highland charge) but is limited to only 20 units. Especially now that Brits don’t have access to an Egypt Revolution.

As both these upgrades refer to regiments originating in Scotland, shouldn’t they affect the new reskinned Black Watch unit too?

^^^

Will Blue Guards be shadow tech upgraded in Imperial??

Are we going to get a rework of the Grenadier unit generally as the devs seem keen for us to start using them more by making them more viable in game.

Will this effect the rest of the team as well or is it a Haud specific bonus.

Same thing I said about the Black Watch tech but not quite as necessary.

Maybe Portugal should get some access to Cannoneers instead.

Been waiting for this for soo long. Really happy that they have been added.

So how come Spain got this but Ports and Brits didn’t quite get the same treatment.

RIP

This is gunna really hurt Sweden. especially as they can’t spam Giant Grenadiers any more.

How much more range?? and are they getting a pretty reskin too ??

Agreed^^^

Where can I find a full list??

As a treay player i would love for us to be able to use the new dutch musketer, maybe allow them to be upgrade at the fort? so we all can enjoy the unit

Though it fits how the Haudenosaunee used lumber perfectly. They had a system of replanting an area once they moved their villages, so that future generations would return and have fresh lumber to build a new village in the same spot once the trees had regrown.

Yup!

Funnily enough the standard Musketeer skin is more appropriate for the Industrial Age than the RG skin.

no its just at the end of the file and its a consulate cav archer that no civ have and a colonial militia that is mentioned once

steppe lancers arent abstractlancers, the only units that are are like sowars, nagi, chinaco, native war elephents, mahouts, bosniaks

unlisted tech changes

  • the age 4 russian church tech that ships counter jeagers also changes all opri shipment to shipping counter jeagers instead
  • dutch red lancers ( old Waardgelders) also give the stradiots TAD style multipliers and also gives it abstractlancer tag?(oh god i smell some kind of dutch spain revolt coming cause the only card/tech that ever mentions abstractlancers is caballeros)
  • french old guard tech gives them revolt armours (10 melee, 10 siege, 60 range)
  • all the techs that affects vills now have a smaller effect for units that should be affected by vil tech (im thinking like the revolt stuff)
  • indian vils now starts as hindu vils but changes to vils after “the raj” card is sent
-japanese vils is the opposite, starting as vils but changes to zen vils after “zen diet” is sent (they really going after this theme of different costing vils have different name thing)
  • seminole ponies from florida gives 9 hussars in addition to stats

But why steppe doesn’t get it it also has bonus vs light but penalties vs heavy to compensate. Same for iron flail

First update of the pup dropped, general polish or did anything worth mentioning change?

I thought that ww was more effective by having cac resistance (princes not) and with the high hp of the cuirs, the high damage shots of the ww will not be wasted. and the damage area of the cuir is not used in the same way as they are large models.

Yes, I have expressed myself badly before because princes still have high damage, only now they are not going to destroy the skirms ## ### because they have reduced the multiplier.

The black riders now, on the other hand, are going to destroy the skirms ## #### counter heavy cav, heavy inf (cac) with shoot and run, and they are decently exchanged with musks or with light cav ## ####

Some changes that went under the radar:

Otto’s have a unique spy card

Feitorias have a new icon:

port Xbow does not have skrim tag/multi
Cannoners - slightly nerfed
Dervishes - fine
You can also send card to train neftanias age 2
Problem with Ethiopia in age 2 is that if opponent finally learns how this civ work will just idle you on MM so you can’t get influence thus forcing you into wood based musk and possibly shotel/jav rider.
I am personally not against this change with shotel but then give port Xbows skrim tag

only the devs can answer that, from the changes it seems that this is only for lancer units, and steppes and iron flails arent lancers, even if they have the same multipliers. why they want it like that who knows

the same can be said for hausa raiders which also didnt get this change

I don’t know why they are not adding economic theory for spain again

Looks like we’re getting a silly bear skin for the Russian explorer

You mean those units get a multiplier vs light infantry on top of the existing multi vs light infantry? So like nagi is 1.5x1.5 =2.25? Sowar will do 4x vs skirms?

I can understand steppe and raider being a siege unit it is primarily designed to kill buildings. But iron flail doesn’t get there is no reason.

Capybara skin when?
Serious question
