Chinese → Su Dingfang Japanese → Kitabatake OR Oda N0bunaga Koreans → ??? Magyars → Miklos Toldi Mayans → Pacal II Persians → ??? Romans → Belisarius Slavs → Alexander Nevsky Turks → Mustafa Pasha Vikings → Hrolf the Ganger OR Harald Hardrada
I kept the same rules of not using heroes who already have a campaign/historical battle about them. We’d only be missing something for the Koreans and Persians.
In this game the division is geographic so the eastern Roman empire is byzantines as early as the first Alaric scenario. I agree that at the time of Belisarius however Romans would be a better fit, given how byzantines are designed, but it’s ok.
There’s also the Abraha elephant as hero unit which would fit for an Aksumite campaign!
Mmm to be consistent with what they did Romans would have to be an ethnicity so romano-britons, romano-gauls etc. Problem is that this “ethnicity” didn’t have an army anymore by 450 in the west and 640 in the east.
What I mean is that actually Belisarius would fight goths and Romans in Italy, Romans probably representing villages and civilians and goths the army, while Belisarius himself being byzantines but maybe training legionaries and centurions.
So I would use Romans to represent Roman people in the post wre Germanic kingdoms, for example Italian and Spanish factions in Tariq, and keep byzantines for the east as the game intends (adding Roman units to train for scenarios set before heraclius).
This is what Romans represents in aoe2 timeframe (from the 4th century on).
There’s plenty of custom campaigns for kitty46852, you can search in mods. Hongwu the great, graceful tang dynasty etc. All of them are similar though, you’ll get some army and siege, you have to kill some army and occupy the base, boom like crazy and then slowly finish ur missions.
Janos Hunyadi. A very well designed campaign series. 6 missions, each of the first 5 have subtasks which make that very mission harder to complete but makes the next mission easier.
El Dorado from HD is ported, you can find it in HD campaigns mod.
Apranik. Author of the campaign is now an official dev/designer I heard from reddit.
Rise of the Ottoman empire. Very good, very challenging.
I actually considered Kim Yu Shin (I also considered Gyebaek), but I decided to go with a later figure so that the Koreans could have access to gunpowder and the Turtle Ship.
Yikes even more op than what they are now lol but in a campaign everything can work eventually.
I know but for the sake of what aoe2 is trying to do Romans are a “people” hence the lists I already posted about medieval Romans (not byzantines). People that after the fall of Rome have a Roman name and come from Roman families and heritage from ex Roman provinces like Gaul, Hispania etc. While you can see that byzantine people have a Greek name (yeah sometimes it’s just a translation but it gives you an idea on how and where those names were still used and their roots hinting at when more or less Roman identity ceased to exist).
