Skirmisher only Knight only scout only is just few dlcs away from being given to a new civi.
That wouldn’t be a problem, because it would be the only civ without pikemen and elite skirmishers. The problem is the balancing headache that the lack of one of these critical upgrades or technologies creates, and if we look at the current situation not all of them have been solved (at least not in an elegant way).
Depends how it’s done. If the civ has a bonus all units do +dmg vs archers per age then you might just see a lack of eskirms
Or if you have “skirms use half pop” that might be a reason to lose elite
I disagree. I think it will have a similar impact to the Turks missing Elite Skirmishers. Besides, the Albanians also have faster-moving archery units, so they can just kite. This is primarily for balance reasons, or was initially.
If anyone else should miss the Elite Skirmisher, there’s no one more fitting than the Turks’ greatest rival in the Balkans.
Turks counter Arbalester + Halb combo with Sipahi CA.
No Elite skirm on the top of Stradiot countering this combo is not good. It would make Albanians civ just rip off version of Turks.
In fact, the Turks were extremely weak on open maps, and the problem was only “fixed” by giving the scout line a +0/1 bonus.
It certainly depends on how it’s compensated, but neither of the bonuses you mentioned helps with the transition from the feudal age to the castle age.
Because that’s the problem: if your opponent has a handful of crossbows right at the start of the castle age, what are you going to do? Your skirmishers become useless, and building a siege workshop and a mangonel takes time. Even worse a castle for the UU anti-archer.
Not every civ should be strong on open maps. In fact, if a particular civ is strong on every map type, it’s probably OP.
Like I said, all archery units for the Albanians move faster, so they can kite other archers easily. No one except the Muisca will ever have archer units that can outrun yours; even Cuman cavalry archers will only ever match the speed of yours and will never be faster.
What I’m saying is that your idea would result in a one-dimensional civ where you’re forced to play arcs no matter what. It isn’t a good design
I think you’re overexaggerating. There are other things the Albanians could go for, like cavalry or towers. Lacking Elite Skirmisher doesn’t doom them to be stuck with archers forever.
Turks seems no answer to this busted unit.
Are they supposed to die to Stradiot spam?
I’ll get back to you on that, but the Turks are pretty much as a whole hard-countered by the Albanians, which is historically accurate. I suppose they could go for Light Cavalry and Camel Riders though. Stradioti are quite expensive, so anything that’s cheaper than them and relatively tanky will be cost effective.
They countered nothing.
They just resisted for a short time and gradually collapsed after Skanderbeg.
It’s like saying the Italians hard-countered the British in WWII just because they took British Somaliland.
But the fact that they resisted a juggernaut like that for so long when others during the same time period fell easily was really impressive, and should definitely be reflected in-game.
I said this in another thread but it’s relevant here too: You play as one civ only, and if your enemy’s civ is as hard a counter to it as you’re suggesting, there’s nothing you can do and you might as well resign at the start of the match. Having units that hard counter other units is fine, because you can switch to using different units, but having one civ hard counter another is not, because you can’t switch civs.
So my suggestion would be to give them good counters to the things Turks do well: gunpowder, light cavalry, cavalry archers. But not one unit that counters all three – Turks have to be able to beat them somehow.
I saw that before and I agree. I was exaggerating somewhat. The Albanians are mainly defensive, raiding-focused, and good against gunpowder, but their specialties that make them good against the Turks largely come from unique techs.
Perhaps I can take away Halberdier, make Stradioti slower than Cav Archers, and give them a significantly higher attack delay as well. That should make them easier to counter by Light Cavalry and Camel Riders, while removing their counter in turn.
I don’t think camels counter CA type units at all.
A unit that throws pots that will break apart on impact and release snakes, yes this is a historical thing.
Monkeys trained to throw fire is a thing in certain parts of the Indian subcontinent
I can’t find a single Google result about this.
Are you being sarcastic or racist?either way not a good response.
