Kicked out of LAN server lobby

I agree with Saad, it’s a crit/blocker. How long do we have to wait for a fix?
During this time, I have already switched to another game and it is not a fact that I will soon return to Age of Empires. Too much time has passed. I don’t have time to play 2 competitive games at once.

Many people don’t post here because they think they have the problem. I also thought it was because of the ports in my router until I found this post.

Same problem, fix this damn lan. I can’t take it anymore, even if you play on a server with good ping the lags make matches frustrating.

Is this fix expected in the next patch? Me and the family love playing mad games with 3 vs 3 Muliplayer with LAN server with 500 population. We haven’t been able to play since August when that patch broke it.

The issue still persist even after the server maintenance

one look at how long this is taking shows you they consider it as lesser priorty. 1v1 and ranked games, and anything else that can be streamed comes as highest priority than everything else.

many other features have broke throughout the 4 years since this game’s release and most often lesser priority ones take 6 months to 12 months to fix.

Me and my Wife play almost every day and have been having this issue for months, can’t play LAN games, only online server lobbies. Have tried multiple Routers, Firewall/Port settings. Nothing works. Surely this can’t be a hard fix for the developers?

GAME INFORMATION:
VERSION: 101.102.33868.0
GAME BUILD#: 99404
OS: Windows 10 Home

ISSUE EXPERIENCED:
Identical to the OP (Kafka, from Sept. '23) and others.

Start AOE2DE
Click Multiplayer
Click “Host Game”
Select “Use Local Lan Server” in “Server” settings.

After entering the lobby, get kicked out with message “Sorry, You have lost connection to Multiplayer Services”.

Always happens.

My wife and I wish to play on our local LAN without reliance on a stable internet connection. The fact that this functionality is broken shakes my confidence in the developers enough that I won’t be investing additional money in DLC for AOE2DE since I can’t be sure the game won’t break in the future when the devs shut down the MP servers.

Still no update on this? Why can’t they just disable the online service requirement.

Probably to keep people online and prevent them from playing offline. It’s an ugly modern fashion to force players to always be online. The comment above makes sense, when support for this game is disabled, it will be unplayable. Today, companies are not trying to leave behind the legacy of the great game; everyone wants to create online services that provide the game to the player only temporarily until the servers are turned off.

How the F can we play? Like we’re 8 people sitting next to each other and can’t effing play the game on a 300 MB internet connection.

Alright guys, I’ve had enough. I’m going to SPAM the shit out of this board to get the devs to notice this and fix it. It’s been 6 months and it’s not acceptable at all.

I need your help.

FIX THIS! This is not acceptable. 6 Months to resolve a blocking bug which basically renders the most important part of the game i.e. local tournaments… unplayable!

Local Multiplayer is not working for 6 months now. Is anyone here that even notices this? How the F are we supposed to have local tournaments?

Here is what ChatGPT says:

The acceptability of a bug affecting local multiplayer in “Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition” (AoE2 DE) for an extended period depends on various factors, including the developer’s communication, efforts to resolve the issue, and the impact on the player community. Here are a few points to consider:

  1. Community Impact: If local multiplayer is a significant feature for the game’s community, a persistent bug affecting it for six months can be quite frustrating and may not be seen as acceptable by the player base. It can impact the game’s reputation, player satisfaction, and overall engagement.
  2. Developer Communication: How the developers communicate about the issue is crucial. If they acknowledge the bug, provide regular updates, and demonstrate efforts to fix it, the community might be more understanding. Transparency regarding challenges and estimated timelines for fixes can help manage player expectations.

An update downloaded this morning. I was very hopeful, but it’s STILL broken on build #104954.

That’s at least 3 updates, maybe more, since this regression was introduced back ~September 2023. This is very disappointing to still see unfixed.

@Developers, any chance of an update on when this may be resolved? 6 months is a long time for something to be broken for following an update.

Me and my wife used this feature every time we played together. It allowed us to do silly things like 500 population cap and 3 vs 3 on a huge map. Its great fun! We sadly cannot manage that on the online servers.

6 months - no local multiplayer? Is this a joke? How are people organizing local tournaments?

i have the exact same issue. Keep getting kicked out of the LAN lobby after only seconds. It’s sad how a major bug like this hasn’t been fixed after months

I think the worst part is it seems like the devs doesn’t even recognize this as a problem at the moment
