Koreans civ concept

I’ve been wanting to put that out for a while. While I used the versions made by @Kameho3743 and @coatol5 as references, I also was trying to come up with some stuff on my own. Anyways, here’s the Koreans civ concept.

The Koreans represent the medieval period of Korea. In particular, it represents the kingdoms of the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. The Koreans were historically known for defending themselves against invasions and were useful in naval battles.

Some proposed flags

  • Year span: 912 - 1598
  • Focus: Navy, Defense, Gunpowder
  • Difficulty: 1/3

Bonuses:

  • Archers receive +1 melee armor with each age up
  • Docks and Outposts receive +2 Line of Sight
  • Hand Cannoneers have -10% training time
  • Universities are 20% cheaper

Influence: Ondol

What does the Ondol do: Buildings within the range of Stone Pagodas can each generate 50 food and 25 stone per minute and can be autorepaired if a technology is in progress of research.

Unique Units:

  • Pengbaesu - Heavy infantry that can build a shield wall to deter attacks coming from cavalry units. Replaces the Man-At-Arms.
    image
  • Hwacha - Siege unit that’s very similar to the Nest of Bees. Compared to that unit, it has longer range and does more shots, which contributes to wider area of effect but has a longer rate of fire and less attack points. Replaces the Mangonel.
  • Turtle Ship - Warship that is armed and is durable against damage, has less rate of fire, and costs less food but has less speed, less bonus damage against buildings (though not as low as that of the Atakebune), lower HP, and costs more gold. Replaces the Baochuan.

Unique Buildings:

Unique Technologies:

  • Dangpa Trident - Spearmen wield the Dangpa Tident, which causes attacks from the Spearmen to reduce the attack speed of enemy units by 15%. Available at the Barracks starting in the Feudal Age.
  • Reflex Bows - Archers receive +1 range. Available at the Archery Range starting in the Feudal Age.
  • Eupseong Strongholds - Outposts, Stone Wall Towers, and Keeps receive +2 range. Available at the Keep starting in the Castle Age.
  • Chongtong - Gunpowder units receive +1 range. Available at the Blacksmith starting in the Imperial Age.
  • Iron Flails - Lancers carry iron flails, which gives slightly more melee attack range and as well as bonus damage against armor. Available at the Stable starting in the Imperial Age.
  • Daejanggunjeon - Bombards have the ability to use the daejanggunjeon for only once. Available at the Siege Workshop starting in the Imperial Age.
  • Naval Shinkichon - Turtle Ships receive an additional Hwacha attack. Available at the Dock starting in the Imperial Age.
  • Bureaucracy - The cost of Town Centers is reduced by 25%. Available at the University.
  • Seowon Learning - The amount of HP generated by the Influence autorepair is increased by 30%. Available at the University.

Landmarks:

  • Bulguksa Temple - Landmark that acts as a Monastery. Relics garrisoned inside can each generate 200 gold every two minutes. Based on the building of the same name.
  • Jungang Pagoda - Landmark that acts as a Stone Pagoda. Provides 3x more Influence range and can provide 20 population. Based on the building of the same name.
    image
  • Dongae Fortress: Landmark that acts as a Keep. The ability for Gates and Walls to be built at half the speed of construction when within the Influence range is enabled. Based on the Dongaeeupseong.
    image
  • Exalted Gate: Landmark that acts as a Siege Workshop. Siege units there have their cost discounted and 2 units can be created at the same time. Based on the Namdaemun.
  • Hall of Worthies - Landmark that acts as a University. Technologies at this Landmark can be researched 100% faster. Based on the building of the same name.
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace - Landmark that acts as a Keep with an innate Hwacha emplacement. Based on the building of the same name.

Wonder: Hwangnyong Temple

The Korean Wonder in AoE2: DE

Architecture: While being very similar to that of the Chinese and Japanese, it would still look different considering that Korean architecture (which was influenced by Chinese architecture) would be used. Age I would be using the Late Silla style with Age II using the Goryeo style, Age III featuring both, Goryeo and Joseon styles, and Age IV using an all-Joseon style.

Language: Old Korean and would evolve into Middle Korean.

Because the Pengbaesu would be having the exact same stats as the Man-At-Arms aside from the unique ability it has, only those proposed stats for each of the other two unique units are shown:

[Hwacha]

  • Cost: 300 wood and 300 gold
  • Training time: Same as Mangonel
  • Hitpoints: Same as Mangonel
  • Ranged Resistance: 75%
  • Speed: 0.81
  • Line of Sight: 14.22
  • Attack: 4
  • Attack bonus: +2 vs Ships
  • Range: 9
  • Minimum range: Same as Mangonel
  • Area of Effect: 1.745
  • Rate of Fire: 7.5 seconds

[Turtle Ship]

  • Cost: 160 food, 200 wood, 240 gold
  • Training time: Same as Baochuan
  • Hitpoints: 600
  • Fire armor: 0
  • Ranged armor: 25
  • Speed: 1.05
  • Line of Sight: Same as Baochuan
  • Attack: Same as Baochuan
  • Attack bonus: +60 vs. buildings
  • Area of Effect: Same as Baochuan
  • Rate of Fire: 5.415

nice one. Like the random little artwork you found of the Pengbaesu lol!

Also kudos for not giving up and being scared of Naval units. (Saddens my heart so many people are just plain out ignoring navy and water maps, yeah i know the balance isnt the greatest but still, so much missed content)

Thanks, and yeah, of course I didn’t give up with the naval stuff because that was important to point out.
