xbows do essentially the same dmg output to heavy infantry as gascenya, while being slower and slightly less hp, even at range. slows down your army too. there’s really no reason to use them over just making more gascenya unless you want to get into a skirm on skirm battle. its not that the tech and unit are “bad” its that its always going to be inferior to just your own units. Shadowtech is nice of course, but veteran xbows arent very scary age 3.

they still have the range advantage against say a musk mass which is what you are most likely to face in an age 2 fight.
they fact that they are dirt cheap and doesnt overlap in cost with gascenya makes them an ideal compliment i think

just give shotel shared combat cards with gascenya and call it a day, might as well be more specific with their multipliers, naginata-like multipliers might fit them very well
