Thank you for your response! We were prepared for the possibility that you might not be interested, but please allow me to explain why I think this design approach is feasible:
The Baipho and Palaungics may appear overly generalized for the local context. While it’s difficult to determine the specific ethnic identities of the ruling classes in Nanzhao and Dali, their ethnic affiliations provide enough military characteristics that don’t necessarily have to rely on historical facts. Even these seemingly marginalized civilizations can have their own wonders (such as the Nanzhao Tuzu Temple, Dali Old City Tower, and Wengding Wa Village).
In our concept, aside from the Thais, who can undoubtedly be a civilization in Age of Empires II (and without any strong ties to China), the positioning of the other civilizations is as follows:
Nuosu/Yi: All Lolo-Burmese ethnic regimes in the southwest with relatively low degrees of Sinicization. Their military feature is infantry (which seems difficult to replace with existing civilizations).
Bai: A non-Han ethnic regime in the southwest that is highly Sinicized, with cavalry and monks as their military features (as seen in the Dablit Guaif campaign, also portrayed by Chinese).
Palaungics: A regime representing Austroasiatic-speaking mountain tribes (usually remaining in a tribal form), with their military feature being economy (often replaced by Khmers in campaigns, but their military characteristics need to be reset).
I understand that this may not be a priority for you at the moment, and I am also prepared for the possibility that you might not be interested. After all, arranging these characteristics is time-consuming, and model design is also a problem that needs to be solved. However, since the official approach has been to further subdivide civilizations (Franks → Burgundians + Sicilians, considering that Sicilians mainly refers to Norman Sicilians; Slavs → Pole, Bohemians; India → Bengalis, Dravidians, Gurjaras, and Hindustanis), I believe that having just one generalized civilization for the Chinese Southwest is insufficient. From a gameplay perspective, this is also not an excellent choice, even aside from the historical angle.
