Yoruba was conquered in the Middle Ages by the Nupe Kingdom so it shouldn’t be added.
I’m not sure what you mean by this. Did the Oyo Empire not last well beyond the middle ages?
Edit: Looked it up and it seems the Nupe interrupted the dynasty in the 16th century and this lasted into the 17th, but that’s way at the end of the timeline. Still very worthy of a civ imo, and there’s enough known about them to make a civ design+wonder+campaign
That’s not how it works. Moldavians & Wallachians are a subgroup of Romanians (Vlachs). Much like Prussians and Bavarians were all Germans.
Romani are the ###### ### ##### in their own language call themselves “Romani” from “Rom” meaning “human” in Gypsy language.
Is that too close to Romanian? Yes, but just like Iran and Iraq, their names are very similar yet not related at all.
Well, no.
Romanians is the endonym, Vlach is the exonym (used to be, now everyone says Romanian as well), and Moldavian is a subgroup of Romanians. Not all Romanians are Moldavians, but all Moldavians are Romanians.
You mean the current Republic of Romania? Why there is a country called “Moldova” if Moldavians are Romanians? It’s a long story that starts with Stalin in 1940. But up until that point, it didn’t work like that. Much like you could argue Austrians are also Germans despite there being a country called “Germany”.
Well that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to be found!
We know about a number of obas of the Oyo Empire, such as Oranyan, Ajaka and Shango. We may not have enough detail about these individuals to make a campaign about any one of them in particular, but there could definitely be an “Obas of Oyo” campaign, a la The Hautvilles campaign in Lords of the West, for example.
Of course this would require a fair bit of research from the devs, probably consulting some scholars in that particular area of history and doing some serious research. I think they’d find difficulty in creating a campaign based just on internet sources for example. Personally I’ve always found the internet lacking when it comes to pre-colonial African histories, but there’s enough books on these subjects.
And if it’s really not possible, we can reference them in a second UU (a cavalry unit like aoe3’s Eso Rider) for a Benin civ. He could be like a special upgrade to Benin’s only cavalry unit (Scout), perhaps.
You can always put them next to a campaign with Ashot I…
Guptas, it’s unlikely considering we already have dlc from India…
They fit if we only consider the Tamoyo Confederation of Cunh4mbebe (1554-1567)… If you put the Jesuit ruins of the Guaranies, it would be more for AoE 3…
Yes, the sixth and seventh centuries are the only centuries without some campaign in aoe 2…and that are important centuries for the restoration imperii of Justinian and Belisarius and the rise of Islam that conquered the entire Middle East…
In my case it would be easier to divide it into 4 ages (I uses Empire Earth,RoN and EE2 captures for concept):
Belle Époque/Industrial Age/Victorian Age (1837/1870-1914): You start with an town center and a few workers who start to gather resources, you develop some economic improvements of the time to generate more income…
Bellum Age (1914-1945):The first skirmishes: at this age you can build barracks (riflemen, light machine guns and snipers), tank factories (mark V that can be improved in Shermans, A7V that can be improved in Panzer IV and in the case of the Russian T-26 that can be improved in T-34) and airfields (biplane fighters that can be improved in monoplanes and bombers)…
Cold Age/Cold War (1945-1991): at this age you can already create launch sites, which can be upgraded into missile silos for military use or space center for starting score… The game may end here in a nuclear war…
Modern Age (1991-2035): In this era comes the internet (aka that would be like spies) and the begin of renovables energies and the wonder race would be the first to reach Mars, as a prelude to what would be the next game…
They were afraid to touch on controversial topics right around this time and Relic were already developing CoH 3 and would compete with themselves…maybe after CoH 3 came out they use the same assests to maybe develop an aoe 5 in the twentieth century from the belle epoque to the present day as ensemble wanted…Besides that they said that they loved AoE 2 in their day and that they wanted to do something similar by modernizing it to modern standards (that is, outdated graphics and a game made in pieces xd)…
They didn’t have time… otherwise they would have had to delay AoE 2 until 2000-2001…
Maybe the Portuguese voices took them out at the time of aoe 3 for TAK…
Very late, the Safavids are better for the aoe 3, they would have to be the Saffarids instead…
Maybe in a DLC of the Iberian Peninsula with Castilians and Aragonese…
Of course, in AoE 2 they would be Tongans and Maori or Micronesians (for their capital Nan Madol) … and in AOE 3 it would be Hawaiians and Maori…
Nan Madol was the ceremonial and political seat of the Saudeleur Dynasty, which united Pohnpei’s estimated population of 25,000 people until about 1628.[3] Set apart between the main island of Pohnpei and Temwen Island, it was a scene of human activity as early as the first or second century AD. By the 8th or 9th century, islet construction had started, with construction of the distinctive megalithic architecture beginning 1180–1200 AD.
Yes, but before that is the early period (1300-1608), then you have the imperial period (1608-1800) and that is already within the chronology of aoe 3…
And if it’s really not possible, we can reference them in a second UU (a cavalry unit like aoe3’s Eso Rider) for a Benin civ. He could be like a special upgrade to Benin’s only cavalry unit (Scout), perhaps.
I would be wary of doing that though because then Benin-specific elements wouldn’t be getting represented, and its also just bit of wrong imo because its not as if we’d do that for, for example, the Franks and Britons. Generally, while I do think a campaign could be made for the Yoruba, I’d like to see the civ added even without a full campaign, because we could definitely have a good design for them and have a good deal of info about their military and empire.
Yeah dude, I’m not suggesting putting “români” instead of “Romanians” in the game.
The other dude said that calling them “români” would include both Romanians and Moldovans. This is absurd.
The Romanians are basically “split into 3” due to living for most of their history into 3 separate countries. Think of it like states in USA. They are all Americans, but some are New Yorkers, some are Texans, etc.
The flag of Romania is basically: Transylvania + Wallachia + Moldavia.
