[MERGED] Game Graphics Feedback

and also the infantry used it in one of the clip seems like it’s an attack upgrade for the chinese

Those are fire lances, primitive rockets attached to a pike.

In Age of Empires II (1999) some units were at times difficult to distinguish from one another, especially during large battles.
Age of Empires III (2005) partially solved this problem with a stylized graphics.
Age of Empires Online was a cartoon-style spin-off:

From the preview video I saw a revamped AOEII + the best mechanics of AOEIII.
I like the “new” graphics but it needs to be polished (animations and arrows in particular).
The colors of the units are too saturated in my opinion.

Anyway this is only a preview.
See You on the battlefield

As I’ve said many times…I respect opposite opinions about the graphics. I find them good enough, and if I didn’t like the graphics I would be saying so…I didn’t know I had to sign up for any “only left or right club.”

Wooow, what a way of nailing it!! “Aoe4 sometimes looks great, sometimes bad, sometimes okay”. That’s exactly what I see too.

Age 2 with Age 3 graphics = Age 4… after all this years of development we get mobilegame and cartoon graphics. They didn’t even invest in a new engine.

Look at older games like Spellforce 3 (2017), which looks amazing in comparison. Even Company of Heroes (2006) looks way better, which is 15 years old! Or look at one-man-project like Maner Lords, which use the Unreal Engine and look fantastic.

Just pure disappointment!

This is what I exactly fear when players from “Fornite” and “Minecraft” care for the game where the previous is cartoony and the latter is pixelated. FFS this is Age of Empires, not only that but the future of the franchise and the overall revival of the RTS genre since Starcraft 2 depends on a “cartoony” game? GG

How I wish the game art is more similar to Spellforce 3’s.

Doesn’t say much… I’m very against the cartoony style and they need to work on it. The overall graphics are nice though.

It is the art style of the units, the animations, and the scaling that throws me off the hype train. I’d say that is enough to still vote for “It is looking OK but needs work”.

My suggestions summarized:

  • More realistic animations (impact on archers and trebuchets after shooting | arrow movement, they shouldn’t disappear so fast | less clunky units | a bit more dynamic in battles | units look sometimes like they are fighting against air. This is okay in Aoe 1 and Aoe2, but in a 2021 game? Hmm)
  • More realistic proportions, especially weapons aren’t very important for readibility. Best you give players an option to switch between “realistic” and “visibility” proportions, if technically possible.
  • More details - Grass and sand looked a bit blurry and not so detailed in trailer, also some units seems to be not that detailed.
  • Ability of turning off / reducing lightning effects (Probably Relic implemented this already)
  • Blood and gore toggle option: I know Relic don’t want to add this to the game, but I think this is the wrong decision. For special countries you could disable gore completely, for the rest make it optional. This also would make the readibility argument superfluous because people can turn on/off it every time.
Many people like blood in games, also childrens. Or how could GTA , Red Dead Redemption or even Horror Games like Resident Evil, Outlast become so popular?

What I like: The basic graphics style, nature colors, some buildings / build animations look very nice and detailed and the 2019 Gameplay trailer

The game could definitely changed to the right direction, but I’m not sure if a half year is enough for that. Graphics is not everything of course, but very important. Many old classic games have aged well graphically (Stronghold Crusader, Settlers 4, Age of Empires 2) and probably that’s a big reason why they are still played by many people.

I can accept new things, so the unit model is very good, and it can also improve the recognition, which is very important. It’s a great game on the whole. It’s up to expectations.

Ok, this is will be a long “comparison post”. I taken some time to analyze the different Aoe4 gameplay video on my LG 27 GN950 (it’s a 4k monitor with hdr 600) and desktop with 1080 gtx ti (4 years old graphic card).

These image can well show what many people are trying to say here about graphic. The main problem is not the art style itself but the reallt bad textures and models.
I’m going firstly to upload the Aoe4 images and then some screenhots taken today from Spellforce 3 Fallen God (a stand alone expansion that i bought today) and Aoe3de.

Let’s go

Aoe3de shows how you can have colorful or brillant grafic with realistic sensantion because units and models are good.

You can’t show a new AAA PC title, maybe the best rts legacy in the world, with those poor textures, models and animations.

I hope Relic will take a look to this thread.
Thank you i wish you all best.

In my opinion, age of empires 4 has the capacity to be released as the best rts game of recent times.

I’ve done a lot of research on age of empires 4 and although there are bad reviews, the majority of people like the game.

If there are 20 positive reviews for aoe4 in a community, they are all written by a different person, but if there are 10 negative reviews, almost 10 negative reviews were written by the same person.

nothing is perfect. Let’s talk a little bit about the mistakes of age of empires 4.
-horse animations
-the details of the associations

  • height disproportion of buildings next to people.

These are the most obvious mistakes in aoe4, in fact, we see in the first pre-alpha gameplay video that the soldiers are proportional next to the buildings. unfortunately this is broken in the last released gameplay video.

You can understand what I mean by looking at the two images below.

Whatever happens, the game looks perfect except for a few minor bugs, it will definitely be worth the money we give.

If we come to the positive aspects of the game

  • gameplay looks amazing
The archers walking over the walls
The medieval cities that looked great
-The in-game images made out of zoom are awesome
    hiding units among trees
-and many more innovations we haven’t learned yet.

I put down the awesome scenes in the gameplay video

When I look at the images you shared, age of empires 4 looks fine, but I think the only problem is the details of the units and the buildings are too small.

Yes only this: animations and detailed units. I said that i’m quite fine with more colorful Graphic (like age3de) but units Need more details. Something like AOE3de could be Good enough.
And Buildings could be changee: are too small in comparison of what they showed at X019.

I’ve already said that i like terrains and walls.

There are some really cool parts of the game, but there are some mistakes. I hope the developers take into account the comments received.

no matter what, I’ll buy it when it comes out.

Yeah the arrows are too big but im pretty sure that it will be changed after all the outcry. I get that people also don’t like the designs of the units too much but the buildings and the maps do look amazing as a whole in my opinion.

lol its not even close to age of empires online. One tower and gold mine look similar? Big deal.
