Formations don’t change unit stats in AoE3 it’s unit stances.
So aggressive, hold ground, etc.
Totally… I said a time ago that militia-line is the line with more identity issues. We ask to many things of it. I think nowadays none of these roles is successfully played. Militia is strong, but not eough, is cheap, but no too cheap.it is good vs trash, but not soo good, and never worth it.
Barrack’s techs are too bland.
I see different paths to take in order to “fix” militia-line. Sadly, I don’t expect none of them would be applied never.
- Split milita line in light infantry and heavy infantry with clear roles.
- Add a generic militia-line trash counter and buff militia properly. I proposed long time ago the shieldman.
- Rework barrack’s tech, to make them more robust but rare.
- An overhaul of barracks Soft Barracks Rework
- Make some soft tweaks to make enphasis in one of the mentioned roles… like give trash units the eagle armor class.
- Give militia any kind of gimmick with micro potential, like formations, stances, ability to build siege, or defenses, etc.
A million of ideas have been dropped here. still play with militia -line isn’t satisfactory like playing with crossbows or kts.
I’d name it Chain Armor if that was already not an in game tech. Or I’d ask free infantry armor upgrades if Malay didn’t get it.
They cant be power unit like xbow/knights. But they don’t like support units as skirm or pikes that synergize with knights/ xbow/ siege.
They can get hit and run by spear/skirm in feudal. They aren’t ‘cheap’ in castle age but ‘cheap’ in imp and then hussar…
Exactly. I support the idea of an split in light/heavy infantry. But if adding a new generic line is not an option. Just make militia line super cheap, faster, more PA, maybe less HP and attack… A kind of generic, but a weak version of eagles. This way it is a better support because with good speed, PA and low cost you can mix them with kts and crossbows and work well vs pikes and skirms but die hard vs light cav.
Even initial scout should be replaced by this unit for all civs.
I worry that the meta will favor knight play a lot then.
