but I know the game much better than any 950 elo player. Your economy won’t be full stonewalled at minute 30, if yes you easily break through and then I outrun all the Champion/2HS.
not if my units are waiting on the other side of that wall your not. and if you do your taking a bunch of free shots on the way that do massive damage. you can’t run PAST 2hs and champs that are literally blocking your path.
Americans civs make 2 Petards to break the wall. I saw countless games where this worked and have done it myself, but when did you see a player goes full stone wall vs eagles? You can full wall vs Elite Eagles on Arabia anyway. Do you expect attacking Fortified Walls with pure Eagles? 11
and they totally aren’t going to scout your castle or barracks or the fact that you ignored castle age and are just going to imp and aren’t guessing what your doing.
doesn’t matter. now i know exactly where your attack is coming. my units are waiting right behind the walls, and you can’t get through my army without suffering huge losses.
You send 3-4 volleys of Eagles, not just one, a unit without mobility can’t catch them. (That’s why slow pocket civs are trash.) If you make Barracks when you clicked up the enemy won’t wall the whole map lol.
In Imp you can counterattack with your Champions. The Champs will wreck base significantly quicker than the eagles. Especially if you also spam ~30% of the champions into your own eco for protection.
Champs have ne mobility to raid and die to Plumes or Slingers.
will champs protect eco with 0.9 speed ?
Perhaps I overstate how often people go full-on scouts. It’s true it’s rare in pro games.
It’s just that I have fond memories of doing it myself and it doesn’t feel like a meme strat (whereas full-on militia does feel like a meme strat), and I’ve seen full-on scouts in a number of pro games, mostly in team games and in the empires-war tournament.
It doesn’t feel like something that’s missing.
But that’s just my own feeling.
Do you feel full-on scouts are missing?
Or are you just trying to argue that if someone made 5 M@A, then I can’t feel like I miss Longswords and the associated strategy of investing in a slow base-busting force of infantry (without siege)?
The eagle player will have to micro a ton to avoid all the champs. protection won’t be perfect. but it will still be a lot better than your opponents situation if he’s trying to defend against champs with only eagles and defensive buildings.
Yeah champs will give you some defense but eagles have 1.3 speed :d
The problema for militia line is that they have a very small role in the Game right now.
They are ok in dark age and feudal but:
There are better options to fight trash units than to tránsition to champs
Everything a militia can do, a knights does better
Their bonus against buildings is useless, a buff would be broken early Game and Will or should be still useless when siege is available
Militia are not support units, they are just neglected for most of the time but early Game. They need a rework, either devs should change their stats to make them a trash spammable unit or change them to make a well rounded unit
completly agree with this comment. definetly need a rework

In AOE2, there’s no precedent of a unit changing its cost before and after upgrade. No unit in game does that, and nobody will prepare for that. Being expensive in castle age is fine considering we have superior knights available (except meso civ). Complaining about its food cost in castle age seems a thing, except changing unit costs before and after upgrade was never done before and you are opening this precedent. Maybe you are not considering that but complaining something expensive right? I would logically assume you wish LS become cheaper in castle age.
i don’t know when i suggest that can you quote ?
i want them to be more usable, worth to go for castle age and imperial age. they have very limited use. only a trash killer (rarely eagle counter but very slow than them). there are better units for this job , already they are bad for standart battles, not main unit
LS, THS, Champ only for kill trashes (rarely eagles) and very slow for kill trashes near of Knight or Archers of Enemy and can be good for push with speed buff. mobility very important, maybe a hp buff.
supplies is a little expensive for feudal man at arms spam. Consequently you can’t use mass man at arms becauase they are very expensive with 60f 20g on feudal and it is hard to get supplies on feudal
when your oppenent switching his army to trash, you need some champs for counter them. but it is really hard to transition with 260 second search time and near of knight to paladin cost for a trash-counter unit, not worth it really
it is not worth for switching into champions for killing trashes. only usable for very very late trash battle. a player will want to switch them just for kill eagles of 3 civ at 35 civ, rare enemy.
they have very limited use (also for a main unit on real battles)
even they are bad on there specific role (trash killer) because of there speed. i want militia-line more all rounded unit.
also There are better options to fight trash units than to transition to champs
Everything a militia can do, a knights does better

I literally say “I assume” regarding cheaper LS.
Units have different uses across different stage of the game. That’s perfectly fine. Castle age knights dominate because of superior stats, move faster and evenly distributed cost on gold and food. People would not use an inferior unit unless having some bonuses. Yet, it has its uses.
Mat already gave you countless counterpoints regarding why buffing LS is not on the table, despite it could use a slight speed buff. So I won’t dwell into that. To put it simply, militia line has its uses in the right situation, and that’s a good thing. No need to create a problem and a solution to solve that problem afterwards. Not everyone needs to be apple.
we gave him very good reasons too why ls need buff.
every unit’s have specific missions and they need to be good on that job. But they are not good on anything only waste of resource. only countering eagles. We seeing every unite when they need. but any army don’t need to militia-line. there better units for kill trashes, kill eagles, support sieges … you can see most units for many different need. but can’t see castle-imp militia-line on pro games %98 chance
even infantry civs don’t use them. for example celts: they using pike+knight+siege goths: using pike+huskarls slavs: pike+siege+knight teutons: knight+siege+pike there is no need for them, just need more options for them
SMH having a small role becomes a problem. That’s new to me. It sounds like someone selling stuff in a local convenient store become a problem.
When talking about fighting trash units, it’s often assumed that all players are reaching mid to late imperial age, when gold on the map is running low. At that point, if you are still producing knights or archers (except Persians) to counter trash, you are going to run out your gold first before your opponent, which means you cannot make other more valuable gold units, such as siege or trebs, both of which could help breaking the stalemates or end the game. Having bonus against building means you don’t need as many siege as you would’ve been. Not being countered by trash means enemies are harder to make a progress.
If you really want to argue, they are not neglected by devs, but by players, which is debatable.
