Minor balance changes for new civs (even before release?) and some questions

Not being too radical here. Just minor stuff.

  1. Mahayana: affects Fishing Ships too. Although I wonder this is a tiny change for Multiplayer.

  2. Bengali Elephants having 3 sorts of bonuses. Sounds too strong on 1vs1 and OP in some team/BF situations.

  3. Gurjars maybe get Ring Archer Armor. Their EA seem weak and to be fair, none of the 3 buildings seem strong, unless we talk about Shrivamsha rider. They also present a Turk like situation with weak Skirms and Spears, but they also lack Knights.

  4. Gurjars team bonus: Camel and Elephants +2 LoS. Why? They start with a camel scout which being precursor to Camel Riders will have atmost 4 LoS. Regular Scouts get +2 LoS in Feudal Age making them already great at scouting in feudal age. The argument of being a counter unit doesn’t exactly hold since Camels cost 50% more in total resources thus harder to mass (gold isn’t collected in dark age usually) and also die to archers. The team bonus also doesn’t hold good because of the synergy with the Huns and more so because Camels are already created much faster than standard cavalry. The camel scout also becomes a mismatch with the Mongol TB. In conclusion, I don’t say that the current idea is bad, it’s just that my idea will make it more balanced.

Not exactly balance changes:

  1. Supplies: Militia line costs -25% food (since Kshatriyas is now a thing). Forced Levy: Militia line costs 33% more food in addition to costing -100% gold. Token changes for Kshatriyas to work properly.

  2. Stable Tarkans get Slot C, and if Camels are available, they slide 2 places down (which already happens, but when elephants/lancers are available). 3 unit lines sharing the same place is a bad idea.

Questions:

  1. Bengali TCs spawn 2 villagers with age up. Does that apply to EVERY TC or only 1 TC?

  2. The Ratha switches between Melee and Ranged attacks. So which armor upgrades does it benefit from? Also Rathas surrounded by bunch of Skirms or Genitours can turn into melee unis and just run away safely?

  3. Interestingly 2 civs have faster firing Elephants- Bengalis (UT with Rath and other elephant units) and Dravidians (civ bonus with skirmisher). Imagine civ builders with Mongol civ bonus, TR, Bengali UT, and Bengali civ bonus for conversion and bonus damage resistances.

  4. Is the Thirisadai just the Elephant Ship? Hello reddit users, you asked for Elephants everywhere.

  5. Hindustanis having neither Knights nor Arbalesters will be troublesome. Adding salt to injury, they lack PT now (FU HCA are a good counter to archers) and also lack Plate Mail for their infantry UU.

  6. How will the full tech tree handle the archery ranges with CA and Elephant archers both? What about adding Genitours and Slingers too?

  7. How will the full tech tree handle so many stable cav - Scout line, Knight line, Camel line (all original), Tarkan, Shrivamsha Rider, Battle Elephant, Steppe Lancer.

you haven’t even had a chance to test them yet, lay off the changes until we know more about how they actually play.

I think a better question would be: how does dodging work. Because this thing sounds like the most dodgy pls forgive me addition of the expansion.

Probably less hard to balance than current one, but shouldn’t it start in feudal age?

Supplies only affect one unit so it’s fine if it’s displayed as -15 food.

I don’t think this is going to be a problem. Either that new cav unit isn’t available in full tech tree, either they will replace kts like slinger replaces hand cannon for Incas.

It will probs have more speed, HP or armour to make up for it.

They have FU skirms though. I don’t see they are weak vs archer. Not all civ need to play arb/knights. They have one of the best eco in the game and they don’t need to versatile tech tree. Also their camel 25% attack faster would be insane in TG.

Firstly, you don’t need to test some things to find if they are balanced. Like the old Burgundian “fallen Knights return 25G” was sort of broken. A hypothetical Knights in Feudal Age (but no Bloodlines) would be OP too. You won’t need to check if they even get Forging, Scale Bard or Bloodlines (Feudal Knights would be OP without these upgrades too).

Next,

What’s wrong with this? Why would you like to have blind scouts which cost 50% more and die to TC fire?? As I have already mentioned, units don’t get worse with upgrades (normally), so that caps the Camel Scout’s LoS at 4. How is that even balanced? Eagle Scouts in Feudal Age have 8 LoS.

Allowed.

The Mongol TB also works in Dark Age, so we can just extend it. Also a good dark age bonus to find/steal sheep. Either way, it is important for some unorthodox build orders.

Supplies → Kshatriyas = militia line costs 34 food
Kshatriyas → Supplies = militia line costs 30 food

No that has been changed. In full tech tree mode, Slingers slide down to below Elite Skirmisher upgrade amd make room for Hand Cannoneers.

The old Burgundian bonus wasnt even that OP

“wasn’t even that OP” you call it out yourself :sweat_smile:

It was really strong but on itself the bonus is fine.

You do realise poles exist with an even better bonus hey? So you are completely wrong, including almost everything else you said

Please. Just. Stop .

You are not the god-savant-of-aoe2

Guys we got a civ that saves 20% gold on knights up front, but a civ getting 25 gold back on death is obviously broken…

Man that wasn’t even the real value, it was Fallen Knights returning 50% of the gold.

Yeah, that bonus is borderline OP in all-in Castle Age games. It’s only when you realise missing Plate Barding (Paladin is minor deal), the Knight line becomes “bad”.

Anyways, I am motivated enough by your words that I may as well quit the forums.

Agree here, we don’t even know if those bonus will stay and how OP or UP will be
We should try them first and then we can say something about it
Pretty sure the devs will check the balance after release

ahem

NO.

Let the civs go live and then we’ll talk.

I mean there is nothing wrong about discussing them, after all the devs aren’t going to stay idle for 2 weeks straight.

These previews may not be final. There can be some small changes on release.

I hope they return Parthian Tactics to Hindustanis… It just doesn’t seem right to remove that from them…

Also Parthian Tactics for Dravidians is required because they miss Ring Archer Armour anyway, their EAs would literally be just 3+2 PA… We need EA to be viable for Dravidians atleast, right?

I might add that the Dravidian EA not only misses Parthian Tactics, but doesnt even get Bloodlines or Husbandry! Their EA NEED Parthian Tactics or they’re simply unusable…

Dravidians have Ring Archer armor. They have FU Arbalester.
They lack BL, PT and Husbandry but fires 25% faster.

It is the Gurjaras who miss both Ring Archer Armor and PT, but have +4 melee armor from the UT.

Dravidians lack Husbandry, Bloodlines and PT.

It is a pity 3 of the Indian civs do not get PT, even though they need it because they are designed to have good CA/EA.
