Mountain Royals Balance Changes

Mainly for the historical accuracy.
Mamelukes ride horse instead of camels mostly, as far as I learned.

Usually the units with the camel tag will be afraid of archers, so without the tag it can reasonably be tougher against archers than the current one. If one day there will be an unit having bonuses against camels particularly, then it can avoid it with no the camel tag.

I really want to change Kataparuto, a 100% fake fiction UT, to a new one that provides Samurai something new, such like receive -20% damage from melee UUs and -40% damage from ranged UUs.
The new UT can be named Bushido, and give them BBC to make up the siege ability.

Eh locking something like this behind a tech would still not entice someone to train samurai over the barracks available Champion.

Even taking half from UU as a baseline stil doesnt hep vs generic units which tend to be common issues. Ranged UUs will still trade favorably vs them

Samurai still has the +10/+12 attack against UUs.
It can be a cheap UT, cheaper than upgrades to the Champions.

Countering UUs is its unique niche and it should focus on it so yes you may need other units to deal the generic units. We do not make Samurai a super unit.

Causing +10/+12 attack against UUs and receiving -40% damage from ranged UUs, I guess that can really do something. If -40% is too less, it can be -50%, -66% or even more. If needed, the UT can also provide +10% speed to help get close to ranged UUs.

My point is id rather see it baked into the unit as is instead of locking behind a technology and that it wouldnt be overwhelming in most situations.

Yeah, that’s for sure.

Well this would address any civs weakness to cav civs.

Yeah. I know. Point is it is not “Nothing”.

Yeah that would be much better. Maybe 35f/35g or 40f/40g.

Reserved for Tibetans in 2050 as the 54th DLC that.

you have to remember tho, that’s in the mid-game. gold is easy and food is hard to get in the mid-game. This should actually make them easier to afford in the mid-game, then when gold starts becoming tighter in imperial, you can switch the cost to all food. yeah, on paper it’s weird paying for LC with gold, but it wins cost effectively vs a knight, and is easier to afford compared to before. So good changes overall i think actually.

I have all that in mind. And I agree that it wil make them more viable in terms of cost. I just don’t see a reason why I want to make them over knight line.

Monaspa has only +25 food over them and offer +3 attack, +3MA.

Not true, because for a lot of civs the techs are just way too exoensive, for Dravidians early infantry would probably be viable

Yeah but it wont make pikeman or even halberdier that affordable

Fine. I just considered about how the Royal Heirs work. To me, the most important thing is to remove the fake and fiction Kataparuto. Giving the Japanese advantageous Trebuchets is like giving the Aztec or Maya advantageous Trebuchets. The new UT can be used to buff what they need now, so I choose the Samurai.

Only Halberdier. Pikeman is affordable while aging up for almost all civs now. Though some civs will still face difficulty playing against knight + skirms and/or siege.

I’m not strictly opposed to this but just want to tell that these bonuses themselves are not that big. Its a slow civ, no water eco benefit, secondary projectile does 1 extra damage. You can see how Vikings, Italians, Dravidians are much stronger water civs than Romans or Saracens. Economic benefit, cheaper units or techs have a greater impact on water maps. So yes these changes could be fine, but there’s nothing to worry or be paranoid about even before the release.

Their CA can kill skirms, xbows much more effectively in castle age. In imperial age, plenty of civs go for hand canoneers because Japanese have good infantry. And CA get +2 vs them as well. Its an amazing bonus for Japanese.
