Nahuallatolli

Hi everyone. As the title suggests, I’d like to propose a change to this technology for Huehuecoyotl (coyote minor god). Currently, it reduces the cost of traps by 20% and increases the build limit by 2. It costs 100 wood and 15 favor.

With recent patches, traps have become cheap, rendering this technology obsolete—especially given the significant favor cost for the Aztecs in the early game.

I would suggest that the developers change the effect to something more useful. For instance, I propose that the technology grant to ALL human soldiers the ability to set traps. This would justify the cost and greatly increase the utility of both the traps and the technology itself.

Yes, this tech doesn’t make much sense at the moment.

But I wonder why the ability to set traps shouldn’t be available to all human units by default without requiring any tech? Would that make traps too strong? I don’t think so, because every Norse military unit except Cavalry can build and that’s not overpowered at all.

Construction speed and cost would likely be major factors if it were the default setting. The Norse have their own unique civilization traits, and building two towers is not the same as building five disposable traps.

If you want to copy another civilization’s design, at least let me obtain it through technology.

Traps are buildings that enemies can see when they’re nearby, and can’t shot arrows unlike towers. Unlike pre-patch spider eggs, traps aren’t completely invisible, thus there’s a good chance they’ll be completely useless for the entire game. I don’t think they would be that overpowered if most Aztec human units could build them.

They can even adjust their building time accordingly if they turn out to be too oppressive.

Like this idea. As soon as you get to heroic age tequila archers are outclassed by eagle warriors, and unless theres some cav focused opponent making spearmen is not useful so all units that can make traps become less prevalent.

With this you can opt into a more trap focused game plan with your other human units. Specially since from heroic onwards is when you can more realistically afford to keep making them over and over again.

I would Personally keep it to the elite Hut units, dunno if the great temple ones like shorn one or the smasher should be Building traps.

Another option i would consider would be to allow all infantry units. This way eagle warriors cant just monocomp around the map and go about Building traps to potentially deter and beat cav.

good point.
and either this:

or

move Tezcat trap bonus to Huehue

If traps were used more often, Tezcatiploca’s bonus would already be excellent on its own. That bonus works; it is this technology that is obsolete following the economic changes made to traps.

i think that would be insane, traps everywhere… distance units would kill everything

nahuallatoli already gives you +2 count in the traps so in total +4 traps (2 smoke 2 pikes). This of course you didnt mention it (not convenient for your idea right?)

the cost reduce is nor important. 15 favor is only almost 1 villager (it is like free almost)

if all troops can make traps would be insane, traps everywhere, too powerful in my opinion.

spearman tlamanih can raid villagers and build traps in order to even raid villagers.

for building a trap takes 11 secs with 2 builders. Player only has to select 2 spearman create a group control and set traps, the spearman tlamanih is very cheap and the trap deal damage to all units (could be 10 horses) so the activation worths the cost of the 2 spearman, 2 spearmans can build the 6 traps in 1 minute in a chock point where the batle is going to be

the traps are for using them in choke points, you have 1 sec more to deal damage with distance units, 20 archers can hit and deal huge damage and also hide or run

in my opinion it doesnt need a modification but what i think they need but im not sure is a better sound to notice if they trapped something so we can go to kill that unit trapped

what is huehue???

Okay, I’ll build more of them—though, as it stands, hardly any are being built, or at least not nearly as many as their potential output would justify. Honestly, the investment required to get a few extra traps—which aren’t really being built anyway—is pointless. Huehuecoyotl is the minor deity.

i’ve not used a lot aztecs gods and traps but i think they are very powerful, having them built instantly but all human army honestly scares me.
what i dont see in this video is the iu description of it kills the user so what i said maybe is not true

ive not tested traps at full. Probably is a good idea but scary. i though it killed the user but no, the iu description is wrong

They can test coyote warrior and few more human units, that won’t break the game.

The units that can build traps at the moment are either useless like the scout or situational past classical age.

thats what you think, ocelote already are invisible and they jump reducing 20% his rate of fire, now adding building a trap, come on its too much. The combo would be 2 pike straps 2 smoke straps 5 hidden ocelotes to wipe out all villagers in a mine, and they can easily run away with set traps around there.
making coyotes build traps would do almost exactly the same abuse play imo.
anyway nowadays this can be abusive except that spearman is a weaker and slower unit to build traps and are not created to fight but to set traps in age 3 or iv (at least is what you are saying)
If the reason were that aztecs are weak i would consider it but they are not weak at all. Giving aztecs something to be stronger only because traps are not build constantly is bad for people that dont play aztecs and are going to play versus aztecs

Ocelotl would be excluded because they’ve already two gimmicks (leap and ambush).

why dont just pick 2 spearman and build traps in 10 secs? instead of requesting something that probably will break the game

To give more flexibility, traps are built more in classical than heroic or mythic, it’s a fact.

Giving eagle warriors the ability to build traps after researching a tech tied to one minor god only wouldn’t be the end if the world, they can nerf other things about Aztcvs or increase the traps building time.

Coyote should have it by default, imo.

increase the building time to 2 minutes and i agree, come on, you are giving a lot of power to traps, imagine 20 villagers walking to a mine and then find 4 traps, all dead, also stalked by ocelotes or any other unit, its just insane.
if they are not built more is because it would be so good, a nightmare for the enemy

camichin spy is for building traps also, you only have to use the hotkey to find scout to set traps everywhere and have that spy near your soldiers

As i said they can find a middle ground, for example increasing the building time.

I don’t like that they’ve added a mechanic that becomes less and less relevant as the game goes on. That’s also why I hate that they introduced Siren and Harpy, they’re literally never used in PvP.

Thats such a high cost investment

Should try this part first. They are not the abusive dynamic imo you are making them out ot be.

How do you imagine they would go about using them? You can deal with cav and aoe stun and aoe damage protecting archers. Monocomps losing theirt weakness does become problematic imo.

No rofl, again, you should really test traps before saying this. If you run into 4 trap´s in a row without being capable of paying attention or noticing then around half the cost in units would have also done the same damage
