To be fair, MS does have their old questionnaires. (I took part in it but, I don’t know if they ever released the results. Would have been nice if they did.) The one where they asked something along the lines of:
“what do you want to be in a age of empires game.”
edit: But a new poll that’s public would be good too.
edit: I made one in the discussions section. Feel free to vote on it.
Any polls/questionnaires I’ve seen for the DE era have been huge surveys that take me an hour or two to complete because I’m thorough and there are a lot of questions and room to give a lot of custom answers (which I appreciate). It’s great they ask for so much info, but they can be pretty overwhelming and a huge time commitment for adults… especially when there is no ‘save and continue later’ button and you think carefully about each and every answer you’re giving
I’m thankful for them because they’re so detailed, but I did have at least one time where I spent like an hour on it and lost all my work somehow because there was no ‘save progress’ capability and the web form crashed or something. Not a great feeling And sometimes it’s nice to just have short surveys.
I think they’d probably benefit by making some short, 5, 10, or 15 minute polls – to survey players about various things devs are curious about at the moment, or to hear suggestions/issues from people who don’t post on the forum. (And please don’t make this a survey where if you answer Question #3 with a “yes”, it all the sudden lengthens the survey by 10 minutes by adding 20 more questions… and then if you answer “yes” on one of those, it is lengthened by another 20 minutes with 50 more questions.)
Having the polls/surveys inside the game would be great, in order to reach a nicely varied audience (ranked players, campaign players, skirmish players, AoE Insiders, non-Insiders, forumgoers, non-forumgoers, etc.). Subnautica lets you press F8 and submit feedback or bugs at any time you want while playing the game! Incredibly convenient! I love that tool. I don’t know if they do anything with it, but I always thought that was an awesome way to do it. I’ve submitted several bugs, issues, and suggestions that way there. (I don’t like that they limit the report to only like 150 characters or something very short, though. I think it should allow for at least double the size of what they have)
Yes, a polling system in necessary and would work wonders for this game. I guess that back in the 2000s every fan at least dreamed of new civs and campaigns until some actually did it and the developer found out they could still make money with it.
So PLAYERS brought this game back to life. I’m not in favor of deciding everything through popular vote (many players wouldn’t even know polls were taking place) but devs should reach out to us and ask our opinion.
Yes! There have actually been at least a few that big… during various betas and such.
I said they took “an hour or two” each, but to be fair, it was probably more like 1-1.5 hrs each, if I remember correctly. Well above whatever short time estimate they gave at the start of each anyways, which I think was like “20 minutes” or similar
Historians will come to agree that the beginning of disappointment was around the period of the xbox platform implementation as well as the importation of aoe1 under ROR.
What all of these have in common: seriously, who asked for these??
